PamR
I haven't bought one yet, but my air conditioner guy uses something like that to check the temp of our air vents. I thought it was so cool. A bit pricey tho.Pam R
babyrn
Just saw something similar like that today in the Sears ad. It was $47. Wondered to if it would really work. May have to go get one tomorrow and see.
sharyl55
Since it just gives you the wax surface temp would it really meet your needs? Just curious. $108 is kind of pricey to find out the temp of a mold IMO. have you tried the Tru Temp thermometer? I find it works pretty well and is very easy to use. I like the alert warning you can set. Set it for my max temp and it beeps when it get there. Sort of a reminder in case I get busy doing something else. Got mine at Target for approx. $26. Mozzie
Here is a site that lists many brands and good prices http://www.infrared-usa.com/default.aspx?param1=googleI've just started using the Raytek MRT-6 (thanks to Julie Kay who ordered and posted it out to me). What bliss! Instant temperature readout. No wax to wipe off. You just need to make sure that your wax is thoroughly stirred so that the temp. on the surface is the same throughout the wax. Here's a link to the post that got me ordering this wonder creation: http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16056 HTH. islandgirl
I absolutely Love mine!!!! Wouldn't use any other thermometer!!!It does take the surface temp as Mozzie said. But just stir you pot real good, point and click!! I have checked it's accuracy against other thermometers and it is right on!!! Well worth the money..I have the raytec MT2 without the laser.. It is $59.00....http://www.infrared-usa.com/Product.aspx?ProductID=142&CategoryID=1746Edited to say~ Go For it Dean... It is well worth the money!!! reddog
I have one from sears and I use it for everything, I work on diesel motors and it is great for finding which injector is not firing, thermostat is working and what temp, so I put it to use with my candles and found out my candy thermometer can be off as much as 15 degrees depending on the amount of wax I have in the pot. I melt 1 pound to 4 pounds so thermometer may not get a good reading, so I started to use the infared ther., works great.Paul
BruceCarvesWax
I have one but would NEVER use it to check wax temps. They are for surface temps mostly. I got mine at radio shack. You can get them for $30 or $40 anytime you want. I use it for outside shows just to check the air temp and temp of the tops of my jar candles. For melted wax it didnt work well at all compared to my thermocouple which is almost as fast and gives a much more accurate temp reading. Bruce Here is the radio shack one, they are on sale for like 29.95 very often http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103171&cp=2032060&f=Taxonomy%2FRSK%2F2032060&categoryId=2032060&kwCatId=2032060&kw=thermometer&parentPage=search
