daniedb
In a salve. I need something that's nice and thick like SAO, but is a vegetable derived oil. No nut or animal oils, and cost-effective like SAO. I may just go the way of 1/2 shea 1/2 oil, but I'd love to NOT use shea in this.
Bunny
http://www.millersoap.com/oilproperties.htmCheck out that chart, and you'll be able to compare oils and see what'll suit you best!
Bunny
Or this one that's not as complicated.http://www.soapnuts.com/indexoils.html
Bunny
Ok.. Scratch those.. I was thinking I was in the soap section!Apricot kernal is awesome in body stuff, as is straight 76 coconut. Well, at least those are 2 of my favorite light feeling oils.
Shani
Grape seed is a nice, light oil...I use it in a few recipes and it goes on great.HTHShani:)
Meridith
What about grapeseed oil? Bunny do you think it could work well too?
Bunny
I've never made lotion with it, only soap. Worth a shot though huh?
sudsnwicks
Apricot kernel oil is very similar in feel to SAO, and its price is comparable. I'm not sure if any nut was involved during its manufacture though.
daniedb
GSO is just too thin and soaks in too easily for this application - I like that SAO has a heaviness that takes longer to penetrate. Sort of the opposite of what we normally look for, but I'm looking for a barrier salve, rather than a moisturizing one. I like the idea of AKO, I think I may give that one a shot. I know it's good for massage oil, so maybe it tends to linger on the skin as well. Bunny, that's exactly what I was looking for the other day - thank you for those links! Crafty1_AJ
If you decide to use grapeseed oil, watch the shelf life. Kinda short. LOL You'd want to use the product up fairly quickly.
Meridith
LOL Shani and I posted at the same time. Thanks for the info. I've too have only used grapeseed oil in soap but have never added it to anything else.
