IGI 4630A Harmony Blend Wax

Do you think the 1945 has as good of a scent throw, both HOT and COLD as the J-223? I am fixing to start making some container candles and have tested the J-223. It has great scent throw both hot and cold. I have very few wet spots on the 3 scents that I made. Mostly the wet spots were on the bottom. Only one had a few very small spots on the sides. I poured them about a week and a half ago. I dont know if they are going to get any worse. I have heard the 1945 has fewer wet spots but I'm more concerned about the scent throws.

Also how deep of a melt pool should I have after a 3-4 hour burn time. I first wicked my 223 with a CD-16 and it took 4-5 hours to get a full melt pool. Didn't have a very good scent throw and a good amount of soot. Then I went to two 51-32-18Z and had a full melt pool in 1 hour. After 3 hours I had 1/2 in deep melt pool. This seem a little to much. Opinions please. The scent throw was awesome and not soot at all. I will wick this down one size and try again. These test have been done in 16 oz. 4" apothacary jars.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I have posted quite abit about the 1945 on the old board as it is the wax I started with, and I DID everything I could possibly do to get a good throw from this wax and never did get one as good as I was looking for. ( and used FOs from 5 suppliers ) I will say that I was told ( and believe it to be true after trying it ) that you will get your best throw if you add the FO at about 180.

Also, I use the Zinc wicks with both the 1945 and the J223 and have been taught by the Masters on here to "let go" of the anxiety about the wet spots...period.

I use it mixed 50/50 with soy and have no smoking problems and the scent throw IMO is AWESOME, hot and cold....Never used 223 so I can't compare though! Oh, you do have to wick down on it (compared to the CB 4627).

Bump!

Anyone know if there is a difference between 4630 and 4630A?

the "A" is listed sometimes as Harmony, sometimes as a re-designated IGI R1945. Different websites say 6 percent or 9 percent FO load. Any thoughts that these might be different waxes or just websites that don't really know what they are selling?

As best as I can tell, they are the same wax. Some people just drop the A. The manufacturer states 8-10% FO load can be achieved. I have used as much as 9% without a problem but at high FO loads the wax tends to smoke. If you go into the craftserver archives and do a search, you'll get a lot of good info on this. I used Google to find these threads and sites since the new search is not working right.
