6046 paracoco wicking

Recommended Posts

Hi, new here to CraftServer. Despite searching old posts and reading through a few that were on the topic of wicking the igi 6046 paracoco wax blend, I did not see a real definitive answer from many as to what wick worked best in their trials. I believe there was one who said they had the best luck with an htp62 in a 3" round container.

I'm wondering (especially since one of the posts was from over a year ago) if anyone has made any progress and what container they're using.

We're dead-set on these 3" glass cubes and have used both 100% soy and tried joy wax. Neither of us were really feeling the soy, and the joy wax we like but we want to 1. go with a wax that is available from more than one supplier in the event we cannot get it from one, 2. hopefully minimize our shipping costs having multiple suppliers available (we currently live an hour from one that offers pickup and 4 hours from another, AND we are a military family so we may end up close to yet a different supplier later.) We'll be picking up the igi6046 but unsure what wicks we should try in this 3" cube. Some in facebook groups say double-wick but one person said she manages the cube with a single lx22 (but didn't name what wax she was using either.). If we have to double, we'll need to pick up some much smaller wick sizes (I think smallest we have at the moment is a CD12). The CD18 seems to do alright in these cubes with the joy wax, but then we get some mushrooming too. We liked the idea of wood wicks and have tried double wicking with small woodwicks but I foresee and issue with our test burns so far in that the wood itself isn't burning fast enough (but wax is cleaning the sides and we don't have soot on the sides.) I also wondered about a ribbon wick. Has anyone tried a ribbon wick in their testing of 6046? We haven't tried a ribbon wick at all in anything yet, so I'm unfamiliar with their burning "personalities" lol

Thanks for any input. Enjoying this site so far! Lots of information!

Well since no one has replied Ill throw in my 2 cents. I have messed with 6046 a little, still have a whole box of it actually, but anyways, the wicks that I have tried are CD, LX, HTP. So far HTP seems to be the best wick for that wax. For a 3" container I was back and forth between HTP 83 and 105. Both worked, but I hate having a self trimming wick because it always creates a melt pool that is off centered until its gets down midway in container then its good. LX 20 is a good one for that container, but it too will mushroom. Pretty much every wick I have tried in that wax gets mushroom, just like all the rest of the Coconut waxes.

The one thing about the 6046 is you don't need to wick down in that wax. You will read about members telling you that you need smaller wick maybe 2 sizes smaller when using Coconut wax which is true for most brands except the 6046 because it has a good amount of Paraffin in it. I honestly use only wood wicks in Coconut waxes, it seems to solve all the wicking problems. Try adding some soy to that wax. I messed around adding 444 soy anywhere from 25% to 50% and it made it a nicer wax almost similar to Lab & Co Coconut cream wax. Also give ECO wicks a try.

If you haven't tried Lab & Co  Coconut Cream wax, give it a try. Its more expensive than most waxes, but if you spend over $99 you get free shipping which brings the price down pretty close to other brands that you would pay shipping on. Its probably the best Coconut wax I have used and the best looking.

I still have some of that wax in a box here, I couldn't get much of a HT off of it at all, what temps do you heat and mix to? And are you using the .03 booster wicks with it?

I don't use clear glass so I am not as worried about adhesion and wet spots, so what I do is heat wax to around 190-200 let it cool to 185 and add scent. After I add scent I cool the pot of wax with either a fan or water bath down to 140-150 and pour. I use the .03 booster.  I also don't get a super HT when using their scents. To me they are a mild perfume scent which I like. It fills the room but it isn't overpowering like Macy's perfume section :D

I have been trying to wick a status elite jar....just a tad bigger than 3”.....no luck. Care to share what wick you’d recommend for that jar?

I only tried that wax for a short time basically just samples so I never really got a right wick for that wax. I still have about 90 percent of the box just sitting here. You can try the wicks I listed above, thats all I can say. I only use Paraffin now. Paraffin = no headache :D
