jbradshaw
I've been reading through this forum, as well as trying to research on my own online and I'm curious about how to find safe containers and understand what makes them safe. Full disclosure: I have not purchased and read the standards from ASTM. I know I should, but I'm just dipping my toes into candle-making and haven't gotten around to it. When ordering containers that are advertised as being made for candles, for example from Fillmore containers or another such supplier, can I trust that they have tested these containers and deemed them safe to use? Or should I be trying to ascertain their safety on my own? Do you ever deviate from candle suppliers in finding containers? It seems like jars intended for canning are also safe for candles, but I'm not sure if that's a rule or not. KrisS
I'm making candles for myself and not for retail at this time. That said, if something is ASTM certified, there should be certifications that can be forwarded to you confirming that the containers meet the ASTM spec. This would likely be something you need to have the reseller request and be provided from the manufacturer
ILikeWaxMelts
JBradShaw and KrisS Here are Three Sites at ALL of which you can find "Candle Safe" Containers I do NOT work for any of these Companies so I have NO Bias. I just know that these specific 3 are Trustful Candle Supply Companies. First One: https://www.candlescience.com/containers Second One: http://www.peakcandle.com/category/Containers.aspx Third One: http://www.lonestarcandlesupply.com/candlecontainers/containers/index.html Note to Moderators: a Sticky Thread of the companies with the best and largest assortments of container collection would be great in the future; for beginning chandlers.
