  1. I have tried CD and Premier wicks. I just ordered some HTP wicks. I am testing 16 oz. Masons and also 12 oz. Status jars. I did a replacement of an eco wick in one mason jar blend on last night.  But the Straight soy, It has nothing to do with the melt pool actually. I do not like how when I first light the wick,  it burns down, and even though I trim the wick pretty short,  the wick is already long again, creating a flame size you may expect after burning 7 hours or so.  I do like the burn of a soy blend better, as the flame don't grow tall so fast and the pool spreads evenly across.   But I would rather - if possible - have an all soy candle with burn qualities of a parasoy blend using the smallest wick possible.  I have some USA and will try it. I am just hoping the flame still does not grow - even after trimming.

  2. No- its not freshly poured. I actually made it a few years ago and it was in my basement along with other testers. I believe you all matched my thoughts on this, since this jar is around 3 1/2 inches in diam, there is no need to worry about even seeing the liquid side view portion of the MP in the first half of the burn. As long as it reaches from edge to edge,  it will go down. With this one, Trapp - yes - the throw had the burnt smell thing going on.  So...you all have confirmed some things for me. Thanks a bunch. Now, Off to testing.

  3. Hello All,

Could someone please give an opinion on this candle.  Wax is 6006. Wick is CD18. Jar is 18 oz Salsa Jar. Fragrance is Black Cherry, 6%. Candle had been burning for 3 1/2 hours, and the previous test burns has been around the 3 - 4 hour mark. There is still a small amount of hang up on the one side, which I am confident can catch up as the candle burns down. Also, the flame is tall as can be in 3 hours even after trimming. The jar is black as you can see. This wax is simply add color and scent, needing nothing more. CD12 - CD 16 rendered no FMP in 3-4 hours of course. Are the flames too high because I still need to move up in size? This wax reminds me of how 4630 acts. Can someone please tell me...What exactly is the issue in this scenario?

  4. Hello everyone...Thanks Trappeur. I appreciate your generous thoughtfulness. Sarah S- Yes, I do love fruity scents. --As for the Citrus Odor Eliminator- I will also put it on my CS List of FO's to order so I can test it. I do need one that really is true to its name. -- As for Tomato Leaf - hmmm..if it was a dud in 4630...it may not be too promising in 464. --Fruit Slices I had from NG..but got the dreaded fuel grill burning smell.

    - I had ordered a candle from someplace a while ago - I cant remember the name of the place but their 8oz Apothecary Jars were frosted.  I had ordered I think it was a Pink Lemonade. The cold throw was nice, but when I burned it, it smelled like fuel. I thought to myself, I would never sell a fuel smelling candle. But then, maybe everyone don't smell the fuel. Its crazy...but anyway I guess it's a Citrus thing.

  6. Hello...

With all this soy craziness sweeping the Handmade nation....makes me wonder if the big dogs are paying the Regulators to force manufacturers to mess up the formulas for the Handmade Nation due to the fact the handmade nation is on the rise with better smelling and better burn quality products? Has any of us been told " Yours smell better than ...the Big Y Dogs? I have...with my still in the testing stage self. I mean for goodness sake there is plenty $$ to go around. Why break something that is fine??  --- SMH - My question is tho...we know the down low on soy - with all the changes in burn quality and reporting it, yet we are told that nothing is wrong -- SO....that tells me - we that actually test is just a little bit crazy...."OOKKKAAYYY"

So my question is --since paraffin candle nation was probably affected  due to -- SOOTING Stories, and Black Jars--- and the rest of the bullcrap that can also happen with SOY and COCONUT and any candle if the wick is not trimmed properly, or wrong wick type and of course if the candle burns in excess....... And ask me HOW I KNOW!!!   My Question is::::

Since soy suddenly became the -BIG EPIDEMIC- from the Introduction and Promotion of it   -- up to the Last 2 Year DOWNFALL-- and now - onto the Promotion / Introduction of Coconut Wax...NO??? .... has anyone had any really bad experiences with the Paraffin Wax - 4630, 4627, 4786 or any others -- where in it has had a huge impact on your candle making process??

  7. Hello....I am back into testing again and am wondering. I just purchased a block of 4627. The throw is out of this world I do agree, but in the Jelly Jar, which wick wont have the appearance that it is going out? I mean there is a full MP about 1/4 - 1/2 inch deep but the LX wick appears to just Mushroom real bad  and the flame dies down as if it will go out.  I must admit that the smallest LX that I have is the LX 16, but would it be worth my while to purchase LX 14 if the LX 16 already looks weak and dying? This also happened with the 44 zinc wick. They say it doesn't need additives, but I dont know. I did add an 8% FO load to it. I will pour a candle wax only and see. I would like to use it due to the throw, but the non vibrant dying  flame after 3-4 hours is very dis-heartening. But any wick, additive or process suggestions that anyone would be willing to help me out with - I would greatly appreciate.

    Thanks

  8. Hello / Greetings to all!! I am currently looking for a good lavender for soap making. I used to use the one from the Soap Making Resource, but they are no longer operating. So - if someone could help me out and point me in the direction  to a few reputable companies that you feel has a good strong - but not overbearing, reasonably priced Lavender, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks.

  9. First I used a CD - then moved to HTP. You are certainly right as this coconut wax is a world its own.  So now, I have a 100% Coconut Wax candle - just lit it. The flame again is as tall as Mt Everest and it is blowing smoke like a train. This is a new batch of wax I just purchased a few weeks ago.  I have an RRD wick in this candle. SMH - as I am beginning to suspect the wax may be an issue. I only say that because the last slab of coconut wax I tested didn't smoke like this at all. The only issue I recall  was the melt pool was very deep in 4 hours.

  10. On the Smoking Subject -- I thought I would blend a small amount of 4630 with the coconut wax - for a harder to burn type of substance due to the deep melt pool of the coconut wax.... in two hours time, the room was SMOKEY!!! Had to air it out.   Does anyone know what can be used to harden the coconut wax just a little - so that the melt pool isn't so deep?

  11. So...we all know there has been a lot of changes going on with the Soy wax. There was the big change over to the Q wax series and some issues noted with some of the familiar soy that some of us has been using for years. But I was wondering would the tariff issue with China have anything to do with it as Soybeans are imported here.  Not that we don't have our own  here already... but Just a thought.  Just got me wandering as I am deciding on the wax / blend to use. The soy blend I used resulted in a cracked candle. It burned fine, but I think I will move from soy completely. In the past few years, testing soy on and off, I never had a candle with those cracks. Not sure anymore.
