  1. Did my first burn test this am. Container is 3" diameter. Used a eco14 with GB464, got bad mushrooming and flame too large. So switched to 2nd container which is 3" same container with eco10 and GB464 (pic attached - taken 1 hr. into test). Still mushrooming Any feedback on the wick?
  2. Hi, New to candle making. (I just poured my first batch tonight, and hope to test tomorrow - the pour looks good so far) I have been reading these forums for several weeks, and have seen some posts where some say it takes them 1-2 years before they can sell. I know this is a naive question, but why? In my mind if I have a couple container sizes, limit it to a few fragrances to start. I test these different fragrances with a few different wicks in the various containers (maybe as few as 1-3 containers). I get these burning properly over the course of a few weeks (maybe several weeks), start selling these, then look to expand into other container sizes, etc. I'm sure I am missing many steps. Can anyone set me straight?
  3. OK let's say I plug in my numbers (just from my small batch I am testing - because its all I know right now Purchase 10 lbs soy wax: $14.99 4 oz fragrance: $6.99 No Dye Shipping $12.00 No UV Used the numbers for clamshell, and label that are there. Didn't change any of the "my adjusted" numbers. I have attached what I did, does this look right?
  4. Hi, Thanks for this spreadsheet. I have a couple quick questions on how to use this, since I am new to all this. Palm Wax $100.00 25000 $0.00 80 $0.32 What is the 25000, and what is the 80? Not sure I fully understand what I put in these fields
  5. I am new to candle making. I have been reading through these forums the last several days to learn all I can. I like to document all I can, and I am having trouble wrapping my small brain around all the data that will be gathered when I start doing some testing. I have stumbled across a few older links for spreadsheets, but they are all old/dead. Does anyone here have any spreadsheets they would be willing to share with regards to the business/hobby? Testing, FO mixtures, pricing/costs, etc. Thanks
  6. Hi, I cut some wine bottles and would like to experiment making candles in them. The wine bottles have a "punt" in the bottom, which is a very large dimple/cone that is pointed upward into the bottle. The punt is rounded at the top, so my question is can I affix the tabbed wick onto the rounded top with a glue dot or some such? Does anyone see any issues with this? All my supplies should arrive tomorrow, so I can begin experimenting, but just wanted to see if anyone had any input on this before I begin. Thanks in advance.
