  1. Easy to make one yourself and save $ Here are 2 ways to make them. I made the 2nd one. http://www.candlecauldron.com/prestopot.html
  2. The 126 throws a pretty big flame though doesn't it? I tried 1212, and the flame was too big for my comfort. On the A&P chart, it states the 126 flame is even bigger. Is this what you experienced?
  3. I have pretty much given up on HTP wick. Most of my glass containers are 3"-4" diameter, so I can never get a full MP. I switched to CD per rjdaines suggestion above. Have done a few burn test over the weekend, and getting pretty good results with CD 16's...fingers crossed
  4. Tried my luck with dye and double wicking. Container: 2 1/2" x 4 7/8" x 5 1/2" tall, 24 oz. Using HTP104, GB 464, 6% FO with 4 dye chips. Heated to 185, added chips, then took off heat, added FO. Poured at 135 (into room temp container) cured about 30 hours in basement. Top looks like a sponge in some areas. Lit for test, and within 10 minutes, this was the result. Any ideas?
  5. I have been testing HTP wicks in GB464. I have tried ECO, and CSN so far, getting some Premiere hopefully by the weekend. HTP has given me the best flame, with no mushrooming (using 6%-8% FO) I am using a glass container that is 3" diameter x 4 1/2" high. I have tried HTP 93, 104, 105, and cannot get a full melt pool after 2 burns. Peak Candle recommends 93, 104, and 105 for containers larger than 3". But if I look here: http://www.wicksunlimited.com/atkins_pearce_htp_wicks.php They show the pool diameter at 1.81, 2.01, and 2.06 respectively. So going by wicksunlimited.com chart, these wicks will never get a full pool in a 3" container. What am I missing? I have also tried a 1212 in this container, and I could roast marshmallows on the flame
  6. This is probably a pretty subjective subject, but I wanted to get some feedback from the experts on how each of you measure things like Cold Throw, and Hot Throw.
  7. Thanks. I haven't worked any with that size wax paper. Will it maintain a form around the top?
  8. I am currently testing a bunch of wine bottles, trying to get the wicking down. I cold work glass bottles and make them into glassware,(if you google my user name, you can see what I create), so the bottles are free. Wicking the various sizes is the challenge right now, many of the bottles have a 1/4"-1/2" variance in diameter, so I am burn testing to see how the various wicks perform. I also have a steady flow of the same brands, so I can standardize that somewhat...
  9. I have a glass container that I want to test. It is 2 1/2" x 4 7/8" x 5 1/2" tall. Using GB 464 and 6% FO, also may try some dye. Looking for suggestions on where to start on wicking. Thinking of double wicking, but not sure. Any suggestions?
  10. I am doing some testing and research right now. I have a post here that shows a picture and video (further down), but not a great representation of what I ultimately want to do. http://www.craftserver.com/forums/showthread.php?102760-My-First-Burn-Test&highlight=burn+test
  11. Hi, A saw a company that was using thick wax paper lids for their candle covers. Anyone know where to get something like this?
  12. I sell my non-candle related products on Etsy. Just started ~2 months ago Etsy thoughts: Sales outpace my own website sales by 3/1 Easy to add products Decent fees Huge traffic competitive, but work on your descriptions, tags, etc. Own website You can have your own url/site You can work on SEO to drive traffic. Can be expensive to develop Many options for shopping cart software Both take ALOT of work. You can't just throw products up on either and expect sales to roll in, you have to work on these sites' product descriptions, tags, SEO, social networking, off-line networking, etc. etc. etc.
  13. OK, thanks. I was just wondering if there was some type of matrix for easy reference. I guess I will just make one.
  14. oh. Is there some kind of matrix/spreadsheet or easy way to figure out FO %?
  15. I am new to candle making. I would like to hone in on 5-7 fragrances to start out. If you could choose only 5 fragrances (the most popular sellers), which would you choose?
  16. Is this normal? While doing test burns, I get some sweat dots on the top while burning. GB464, 6.25% FO, eco 14 or 10 wicks, no other additives.
  17. Newbie here what are C3 with CDNs,. Edit: ok found CDN wicks at Southwest, but don't see anything called a "C3"
  18. OK, so I did some more testing this eve. I trimmed the wick down to 1/4" after first burn. burned again for ~4 hours. Took this video right before end of test. I got a little better burn, but still some mushrooming. Video is 4 candles first two shown are as follows: (1)Candle on right: GB464, 6.25% FO (CS Love Spell), 3" container, Eco10 wick (2) Candle on left: GB464, 6.25% FO, (CS Love Spell), 3" container, Eco14 wick Still get a bit of flicker, and some mushrooming. Is this acceptable? second set of candles (1) Candle on right: GB464, 6.25% FO (CS Love Spell), 3.25" container, Eco10 wick (2) Candle on left: GB464, 6.25% FO, (CS Love Spell), 3.25" container, Eco14 wick Candle on right the wick is not centered, so that is affecting the burn, and pool. Also, still get some flicker, and some mushrooming. Is this accpetable? Thoughts? Ideas? :
  19. I have a few candles that I tested with GB 464, and knew rather soon, the wicks were not sized correctly, so I abandoned the test. What is the best practice for getting the wax out of the glass containers, and re-melting to try to do a different test with different wicks? Or is re-melting a bad idea?
  20. I put 1 oz for 1 lb., which my feeble mind calculates at ~6.25% correct? What would you recommend %wise for the ecos?
  21. Thanks for all the replies, helpful info. I already have an operational business, so permits, insurance, etc. is already taken care of. I did my first burn tests this morning, and I am seeing how the test phase will eat some time
  22. Thanks for the reply Moonshine. I am using 1 oz for 1lb of wax, so I guess 6.25% I have tried both eco 10, and eco 14, so could one assume that eco12 would yield the same effect, since the smaller and larger wicks yield mushrooming? What CDN or HTP size would you recommend for 3" or 3.5" containers?
