This is realli no good news, I'm just waiting that CS will start international shipping (they said they will) to order from them and I was happy they switched to plastic!! So lighter than glass, my last order came through a friend and almost all the glass bottles broke...
I hope they will start to seal the bottles!

It definitely doesn't smell like your translation Sabrina lol! It's a floral scent with some tropical to it. Maybe just call it paradise?
LOL!!!
I had to take another pause from candlemaking, so I didn't have any chance to test new scents, but yes, I was thinking something along the line of paradise!

oooops sorry!

But even if you put them in votives (i suppose you're using wick pins?) they will be fine. The hole in the votive straightens them.
My lxs I use for votives are the same way too, but really not much of a problem, they work just fine.
-
I got them the same way, in bags of 1000s... I only had to straighten them a bit, but once secured at the bottom of jars and thighten I was fine, the breaks you're talking about were not a problem.
I never had such many in a time so honestly I didn't think about how they should be packaged.
Sorry you're so disappointed!

Finding some time is becoming more difficult and sometimes it makes me sad to stay away from my candles!!
The wicks were in a taped tansparent bag. I ordered samples of each size, so they were few in a tight transparent bag and taped.
Are yours sealed in a different way?
Thanks for insights!
ETA: looking at the pics you posted the bags looks the same.

Thanks you very much Jonsie.
The wicks I have are the same pictured on unity wooden wicks site, and they seems the same thing of what lonestar is selling, they do not have pictures but from the description I copied and pasted here it seems the same thing. So I don't know if there's an old version and a newer version!
They are not oily at all.
Really I don't know what to think about these wicks, made in this way are not so nice to look at, if I test something is just because I want to make some use of it and they don't have any appeal to me for now..
My time has gone out for this wee, so maybe next week I'll try a different oil as Richard suggested.
The candle I made and posted doesn't burn anymore, yesterday it burned for some hours but now I can't light.
UGH!!!
Thanks!!

Thank you for your replies.
After reading these posts and after seeing what I seen from this very first experiment I just wanna give up.
Not sure if this is something I'll enjoy, after all I'm not that impressed with the crackle too!

Just as a note, this is what i found on lonestar candle supply, regarding this type of wood wicks:
Our soft wood wicks are comprised of two pieces of wood. The wide, soft piece of wood produces the width of the flame while the narrow, hard piece of wood, called the booster, produces most of the heat. Both pieces of wood are treated with a solution to help the wood light easily and stay lit, as well as increase crackling when they are burning. The double thickness of wood should extend from the wick tab to about 1/8” above the wax in a finished candle. Wood wicks are for use in containers, and should not be used in pillars or votives. Wood wicks can be used in paraffin or soy. When using wood wicks in pure soy, we recommend using the large or extra large wick. This is to make sure the melt pool is wide enough since pure soy wax tends to hold in the heat, as well as fragrance.
To achieve a good "crackle" sound with the wood wicks, it is very important that you do not use too much fragrance oil. The crackle is a direct result of the correct amount of fragrance oil, type of wax, and amount of dye being used.
It seems I chose the wrong size to start with.

Hi all, so I started to play with wood wicks.
For this first test I used a 3" diameter tumbler and a medium size wick.
Only soy wax and 6% FO (Peaks Beach Daisies, very strong).
I cut the wick at about 5 mm height.
It doesn't stay lit.
At first I thought I cut it too short, so when it went out I dumped out a bit of the nolten wax so the wick would be longer, the nelt pool you see in the pics is the result of several starts and a couple of dumps of the wax.
But even when I lit it with the wick more exposed it drowns out.
It starts with a big flame then very quickly it settles down to a little flame and extinguish
Now it's been burning for almost 1 hour and still going...
The crackle at the start was very clearly audible, now not so much.
The throw is very good, I am in a big romm with 2 out of 4 windows opend, and I can smell the scent very well.
It just leaves me a bit puzzled, I though the flame would be more "flaming".
Next test, same tumbler and a large wick.
Any comments or suggestion very well appreciated.
Thanks for looking.

Sabrina, I can't wait to hear your opinion!
Eh eh
Tonight I'll pour a couple of testers but who knows when I'll find the time to burn them, I'm always far from home!
-
The wood wick from unity just got here some minutes ago.
They are odd to look at and not particularly fascinating, with the second small wick glued to the other.
I wil give them a try as soon as I can, I'm just too curious about the burn.

I use a recipe that has just a tiny bit of witch hazel, wich sometimes i sub with some aloe vera water...
I hope not to mess things up!
-
It's kind of odd that there wasn't a timer. When I was watching I noticed that the flames flickered kind of weird, so I'm wondering if it was sped up. But it is very thin, I can't imagine it talking very long either way.
(Why can I edit this post, but not my other ones?)
It seems sped up. I can't even get the real dimension of this candle.
-
It's a really interesting design!
I believe candles like that are meant just for special occasions, to underline some important moments. With a proper holder I don't see many problems, it doesn't drip (at least from what I see in the video).
Cool find!

Thank you very much for your answer, I'd like to have a walmart here it seems a beautiful place but Italy doesn't have it!
I will try adding a bit of color and "counting" it as a part of the witch hazel or other water I'll add, could it be?
Or.. I'll go snow white again!
Thanks!

Hi all, I don't make BB products, I just make some bath bombs for personal use or a friend. I don't have any specific cosmetic colorant (i only make them uncolored) but I happen to have some liquid food colorants.. Could I use those for bath bombs?
TIA

Thank you very much, did you test them already?
I'm a bit concerned about the two parts "sloppily glued together"....
I ordered the ones from unity because they have a reseller in UK so shipping is not a killer and no customs to pay too.
I'll test them, I hope they will work!
-
Sabrina, I don't understand the picture either because that is nothing like what I have received. The picture implies that one piece of wood is smaller than the other, in both width and height. But all the wicks I've received the two parts of the wick have both been about the same size, and look sloppily glued together. Even the wicks directly from the patent-holder are like this.
Hi Jonsie, did you order them at unity wooden wicks? I did. Or, better said, from their reseller in UK.
I don't understand that picture too, I thought it was just one piece of wood. Two pieces it could be something related to a functional matter, but the diffrent heights are puzzling me. Did you write to the supplier just to ask?
TIA

Thank you very much, I have still to decide about which container I should use, as with everything it's not so simple to test containers I should buy very large quantities GRRRRR!!! so, I'm doing a research for a nice tumbler, something unique in case I can make those wicks work.
The large size seems very large, but anyway I'm waiting a few of each kind so I will see myself!! Thanks again!
-
Thanks so much, I just ordered some samples and will try them in both soy and palm.
I ordered the three sizes but maybe the large isn't really necessary.
Why are there two part of different heights in these wicks? Or did I see bad the pics? It seems they are two pieces of wood put together.
TIA
