  1. So are any tin users out there having this happen?? And Jane, I think you could put that on the tag, but people are still going to get the cheap melters from wally world and Michaels and use them anyway! I 've got mine on the melter still (post spew) and I really don't think it's any better than a tart...... May scrap the idea altogether........
  2. Sure, they work great.....but even better if you put some kind of wood shavings in. I just go out into my woods and get dried bark, acorns, little twigs...... I don't sell them, they are just for personal use, but thank goodness for them. Makes our campfires alot easier to start......no more DH swearing over teepee versus log cabin or blaming it on wet wood.....lol!
  3. Exactly Candleman..... and I put it on the burner and it did it again. It's not like this huge explosive amount of wax........just alittle spew/squirt....enough that I wouldn't want to clean it up everytime. I think I will try the tins.... I don't know of many containers out there with a wider mouth than this one. And I have to test like the consumer and use the wallyworld warmer..... sooo surprised more people aren't having this happen.......definately not an air bubble.
  4. This is the first time I ever put a wickless candle on a burner.......so I don't know if it happens often....lol. Like I said this is a flat, short jar with a pretty wide mouth.......ok now,I have to go put it on the warmer again...... I'll post again i awhile..........
  5. BUT unforunately, you can not control what kind of warmer someone who buys a wickless candle will be using......... so you have to test for all situations. This warmer did not take forever to heat the candle, as I said this is a pretty flat, short jar.......... It just squirted......then it was all liquid in a short time and really scented the whole downstairs of my home quickly. I sell 3 sizes of tins, so I'm thinking of testing the 8 oz. also, no glass to worry about breaking, yadda, yadda.... Although I much prefer a buring candle, as a retailer I don't want to overlook this niche in the market.......just don't want volcanos:DAND don't want to have to tell the consumer what kind of melter they should be using, cuz we all know they are going to do what they want regardless.... I would think those of you out there that sell the wickless mason jars (I've seen alot) would have the same problem............
  6. Ok, I decided to check out the whole wickless thing:D Maybe just add one size of wickless to my line........ I've seen them at my sons school and in offices and though none of my whole accounts have asked if I carry them, I want to be prepared......... So, I go get a warmer from wallyworld yesterday to test a wickless I had made on....(using a 10 oz elavation glass and my normal para-soy container blend) and after alittle while, as the wax was melting from the bottom up, it squirted out of the container.....hit my walls and spurted up high enough to get the bottom of the cabinet it was sitting under..... What the heck!! I know if I poked some relief holes it would probably solve this problem, but the last thing I want to say to the consumer or retailer.....is "hey if you don't poke some holes in this baby, you may have a mess on your hands!" They'll be flying off the shelves....lol. The container is pretty short and shallow.......... Any ideas from wickless chandlers?? TIA Volcano Grrllllllll
  7. Thanks Top! Was hoping someone with your expertise would chime in........so I would keep my FO ratios the same on my spread sheet. Was not sure, because once I went to the melter all my containers were coming up short for some reason. So I tared and weighed all my containers with melted wax, will plug those numbers in, keep my FO the same and hopefully all will be right again in the world. Thanks!
  8. Hi all, I have a turk and surf, and am recalculating all my formulas for my excel sheet, because since the wax is already melted, won't that change the rate at which I add dyes and FO? So, for example, one pound of wax makes 20 oz. of melted wax..........when calculated at 1.5% fo, I would add 42 grams of FO once my wax is melted, but now that I am always weighing the already melted wax, should I recalculated my formula to 42 grams per 20 oz of wax......or I would be overloading? Right? I hope this makes sense......... anyone who uses melters and always has a large amount od wax melted want to chime in?? Pleaseeeee?? TIA!!!
  9. Peaks is great!! I'd definitely give it a try!! HTH Lisa
  10. I use the dyes from Bittercreek also. You aren't going to find much at your local craft store. Your better off buying online at a quality candle supply store. Plus if you have to drive 2 hours the shipping cost is well worth it!
  11. Eco 1 burn great in the 4 oz. tin for me..... I wick alittle under, because as stated they really catch up in the second half of the burn. Using RRD 37 on the 8 ozers. This is with a para-soy blend though. HTH
  12. I get mine here.......shipping is pretty good, prices are good, especially if you buy in bulk. www.specialtybottle.com
  13. Thanks for your reply Carol. I have searched and I have found recipes, I guess I really want to have people chime in on cost. I plan to make at least 20 16 oz. tubs of this and want to do it as cost efficiently as possible.....and since I order from many sites that supply candles and B&B supplies the shipping is not a big deal.
  14. Hi all..... I tried a sample of this and really liked it. BUT this question is to the sugar scrub experts out there:yay:.......... I sell candles and don't plan to get into the B&B, for quite a long time yet, but I'd love to do some sugar scrub for gifts, there are many recipes out there, is it cheaper to make your own or just buy the base from a supplier (like JS) if you don't already have B&B stuff in stock (like swwet almond oil)?? If it's cheaper to make yourself, any recipe favs?? TIA!! Lisa
  15. Thanks so much Scented!! I'll be eager to see your post!
  16. The description for Sunset from BCN is very vague.......fruits and Florals. When I called they were not at all helpful. Said the pouring person would be back in tomorrow and maybe she could smell it and let me know what she thinks......MAYBE. But no guarentee. I smell fruit, but can't really nail it down. Smells almost like a cocktail, but not as sweet. Some orange, tropical friuts....pineapple?? No coconut. As for the floral....it's there, but very light.......... Anyone have this oil and want to chime in? The floral doesn't even have to be right....... just want some concrete "visuals" for my description, so people get an idea what the smell will be like! TIA!!
  17. Had to share part of this review from a candle review site I found. This is a review of a site that takes 4-6 weeks to deliver the candles AND the candles are seeping oil, so dangerous to burn, yet people are getting the idea that the oil means they are fresher........ LOL It just kills me that there are people with websites out there selling unsafe product AND making $$$...... They carry 500 plus scents...... hmmmmmmmm, wonder if they've tested them all:laugh2: "It took 4 weeks for my stuff to arrive. Everything arrived fine. It was freshly poured as some of the candles have oil around the edges. I like this company because of all the pistachio choices....."
  18. Just Scent has a Fo called Ginger Berrie Wreath ( I think ) that is really yummy!! HTH
  19. I sell 7 different container sizes and have been lucky enough to find a wick for each container that works for "almost" ever fragrance........ I usually make only one. My wax formula is carefully measured, and I use my usual ratio of FO to wax as my starting point. Basically, I start with my "go to" recipe, that works most of the time. That way if it doesn't burn right I can figure out, wick up, down, less fo, more -without tons of waste..........then on to the next 6 sizes....LOL HTH Lisa
  20. I've tried RA, and while their higher grade fo's worked great in my candles, their process time is terrible. I get very large wholesale orders and can't wait 2 weeks to get my FO. The 50 minimum is never a problem, but I would suggest trying them only if you can "stock up " on scents or you don't do high volume business and pretty much know what you need well in advance. But hey, the samples are free, and the CS is good (they just get backed up), so it wouldn't hurt to have them send you some samples...who doesn't love free FO?? HTH Lisa
  21. Sounds like she has just gone to the Beanpod website and copied a bunch of their marketing jargon: "Soy Basics incorporates two unique, proprietary methods in the development of our soy wax candles: the cleanburn technology and the TEMPACURE process. The acclaimed cleanburn technology promises that Soy Basics candles will burn clean, leaving minimal wax residue on the sides of the jar. Our Beanpod Candles burn slower and cooler at a lower heat than paraffin wax candles, which are known to have a high combustion rate. And, a slower burn rate means Beanpod Candles deliver greater value than paraffin candles." They also use to talk about a several step process, but they don't anymore. Just a different spin. Go through your thesaurus and you can find all sorts of ways to spin the "hand poured" thing or put a "name" to your pouring "technology".
  22. RRD's here! Work great for me!!
