  1. Has anyone ever tried Virginia Candle Supplies fragrance oils? They have so many interesting ones. They seem to have so/so reviews on EBAY.
  2. They discontinued my favorite from them - cranberry citrus. I do like their iced lemon biscotti; however, I picked up skittles this time and I just can't wait to burn it. :-)
  3. I am having a heck of a time wicking the c3 now. I have tried premier, cd wicks, and eco and they are were struggling. Not sure what was going on. I was using 7% fragrance oil, c3 wax, 8 oz jj, added fragrance oil at 180 and just getting a horrible burn on Birthday Cake from KY (Rustic Escentuals) - yes I cured the candle. So I am making cranberry marmalade in c3 wax tonight, 415 and 464 and I am going to test and see how each wax performs and see how one stacks up against the others. I haven't wicked these candles yet. I will take a skewer and poke a hole in the wax and therefore I can change wicks and wick series if necessary. I am using 7% in cranberry marmalade, 6 drops per lb of dye from candles and supplies cranberry - not crazy about the color, and 8 oz jj and adding the scent at 180.
  4. Hello all. I have ordered a sample of the 464 wax that I will be testing and if it works out - I will be switching from c3 to the 464. My only concern is shipping candles or even holding candle shows in the warmer months given the464 melt point being lower. How do you ship your candles in the summer months or do you folks that use the 464 take the summer months off? I have heard wonderful things about the 464 and I am looking forward to giving it a try.
  5. Good morning all. I am having a little bit of wick trouble. I am testing an 8 oz jj with 7% of fragrance oil Birthday Cake from Rustic Escentuals - KY line C3 wax added fragrance at 180 degrees no color or dyes The first test I did with a cd 10 and it conked out on the first burn. Wicked up to a 12 and wowsers! The flame was dancing and throwing off some soot. My guess is the jar would have been black at the top and the melt pool would have been too large by the end of the burn. So then I tried a premier 765 - again not enough ooph to keep it going. Going to try the eco series next. Will start with a 6 since they tend to burn a little hot. I love this scent but it is a toughie to wick. If the ECo 6 doesn't work I may try the premier 767. Thoughts??? I love the cd wicks and after the first burn that went ok with the 10 but then the second burn after about 2 hours it was dying a slow and painful death and then whammo out. :-(
  6. I know a lot of people do- but I didn't have much luck with their oils either. :-(
  7. My ebay id is ajensen123. I don't have each individual oil listed or weighed but you will receive lots and lots of oils. My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and I just don't have time to test much. Only make the oils that I know that'll be good or that I want to make and sell. Thank you for your interest. I have lots of peak, fillmore, maple street, bittercreek, and etc in this lot. :-) Hope you have a wonderful night. :-) There are also some natures garden in there.
  8. Yes, In fact I have a whole box sitting here that is on ebay now with more scents to be listed thereafter.
  9. Crafty1_AJ - do you use liquid or dye chips in your candles? From the pictures - you have just lovely candles and nice and bright. :-)
  10. Dear friends, I am just getting back into candlemaking. I am narrowing down my supplies though because I simply do not have the room to store all of them. Do any of you make dye free candles only and if you used to color your candles and went dye free = did it affect your sales at all? One of the main reasons that I am going dye free - is because I cannot locate my dye chips. :-( I am using c3 wax and 8% fragrance oil. I am going to test that before moving further. I was never happy with my candles at 6%. I am not sure what wicking series I will use yet. I have some 8 oz jelly jars that I found and premier wicks, eco wicks, cotton core wicks and cd wicks. I found some of Candle Science's watermelon which I am not a huge fan of but it will get me started either way. :-)
  11. I have used an Eco 8 in a jelly jar with C3 before. Not my favorite, but it has potential. I prefer the C3 wax with premier wicks. Thanks to LMC, she is sending me a CDN wick to try. I have never tested a CDN wick before. I have tested the premier wicks with C3 and find them to be a nice pair. For testing wick purposes, I wait 24 hours. For testing scent, I test at 1 week, but some scents do take the full two weeks to cure. Indiana Candle Supplies - Pink Sugar is a prime example. That takes forever to throw but it is a scent that is really worth the wait. Good luck. ~Tiffany
  12. What is your opinion of Bonfire Bliss??? I got this in as a sample from Aroma Haven and have not added it to wax yet.
  13. I love the scent spiced cranberries! :-) What supplier did you use for those? I am getting ready to test Spiced Cranberry from Natures Garden but I have Autumn Leaves in stock from Aroma Haven.
  14. Ok test burn #2 PR 765 - although the flame was a little hotter than I like, and dances around quite a bit, and the burn pool might be a sprinkle hot as we continue testing further down into the jar, overall very nice. Eco 8 - burn #2 was going fine until about the last 1/2 hour when it trimmed itself again and almost went out; melt pool decreased and had like a nubby with a teeny tiny flame CD10 - finally made a full melt pool but the wax literally stinks like just wax :-( I can't think of another way to describe it. Not overally impressed with this wick. Burn #4 or 5 - for CD 12 = my notes are in the car sorry ----burned very nice with a nice burn pool but holy huge wick did the wick's flame move around a lot and become huge. The jar was becoming hot and the flame was larger than I like with a significant mushroom. However, not too deep of a melt pool. Whiffs of black soot would arise periodically. Burn # 1 - PR 755 - Well same result as the Ecos. Flame dimished and was burning very tiny with a nubby. About went out - melt pool dimished as the flame got smaller. 51-32-18 cotton core wick - well cheese and rice! This wick other than the huge mushroom did just fine. Achieved a full melt pool that was 1/4 " to 1/2 " deep. No smoking of the wick. May consider wicking down to a 44 cotton depending on how this burn goes. Overall one of the best results so far. I know you should burn the testers all the way to the bottom, but I yanked out the PR 755 out of the tester and put a 760 thinking hmmm..... :undecided that's in between a 755 that was about to putter out and between a 765 that was just a tad too big I though. Burn #1 - for Premier 760 - better than the 755 but the wick seems to be struggling and I am expecting the same result as the 755. Could be surprised though. Wick is starting to significantly mushroom.
  15. I have been testing an 8 oz jj, 1 oz of BCN Lemon Pucker, 4 drops of BCN liquid dye per lb, with 6 different jars. I just made these jars yesterday as I am not really looking for scent throw just yet, just a decent burn and then I will work on the curing, the scents that are good, etc...I know every scent burns differently but I just wanted a ball park direction to go in...I also found a lemon pucker candle that I made several months ago wicked with a Cd 12 and according to my notes, it has burned very well and this is burn #4 for it. The jars are as follows: These are my results of the first burn....will post the results after every burn so this helps another candlemaker. First test burn I only tested these 3.... Eco 8 - after the first burn, the melt pool was not as deep as those of its competitors. Looked like it was going to go out. CD 10 - burned very well...didn't quite make it all the way to the edges....left a little hangup but overall very happy with this burn. PR 765 - selected this wick because I know I didn't have great results with a PR 767 in C-3 wax..... That wick was too hot for my combination. The 765 in the "mixture" above burned very well but mushroomed quite a bit and the flame was very wiggly. Since I test, in 4 hour increments, it was starting to mushroom a lot and the flame and wick were not as efficient when there was no mushroom if that makes scents. The second burn I am adding the following jars and I am also burning the other 3 from above to compare. 51-32-18 - used this wick in the past but hate the mushrooming but overall a really good wick. I can't wait to see how this one compares to the others. PR 755 - so far this wick is struggling. I am not sure how it is going to stand up against the competition. May be surprised though. Eco 10 - so far, so good. My kids say it smells like a lemon bomb went off. Despite the fact that these candles were just made, this is a very good scent and I have never had it smell "fuely". I hopr my testing results help someone. This was a long time coming. I would experiment here and therer but this was my final solution and the only way to conduct a real test side by side. :tiptoe:
  16. Maybe try to wick with an Eco 6. This morning I am testing an eco 8 in an 8 oz jelly jar with 415, 4 drops of yellow dye per lb, 1 oz per lb of Bittercreek's Lemon Pucker. I am also testing a cd 10 in this "mixture" as well because by the time the wick/wax got down to the middle of the jar, I was getting soot and black smoke and my melt pool was too deep. I am also testing another candle in the same "mixture" in the premier 765 as well. I believe it will be overwicked by the time it gets down to the bottom of the jar. The flame is starting to get larger, but I will burn it all the way down to see. I have to be perfectly honest my eco 8 wick and cd 10 are burning about the same pace and I was under the impression that a cd 12 and eco 8 burned about the same. I guess you never know until you actual compare the two side by side.
  17. Of course I am no expert at all LOL, but the 10 looks overwicked to me. I get nervous when I have a meltpool that deep. Good luck. :-)
  18. Thanks, lmc! I sent you an email back. Thanks for your offer to help me. Any help that I receive is much appreciated. :-)
  19. LMC, I would love to test a few of the CDN 12 wicks. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about them. :-) However, I am unable to send you a PM; I am not quite sure why. My email address is ajensen123@comcast.net. is my address. I appreciate any and all suggestions and your help is more than appreciated. Many, many thanks as I am about ready to yank my hair out. :-(
  20. Dear folks, Please help me. I am somewhat in a bind. :-( I have been testing for months, in which during that time I have learned a lot, not only about myself and the value of patience and preserverence, but also how hard one must work to make a good candle. I have been making candles on and off for several years. I used to use 415, 8% fragrance oil, dye blocks, 8 oz jj, and 51-32-18 wicks. I had a customer complain about the mushrooming and it has led me on a rollercoaster of a ride to find a wick that doesn't mushroom like that. Not one customer ever complained about the scent throw. :-) I got fed up on my quest and took a couple of years off to go back to school, which was not a very wise decision on my part. Therefore I have went back to candlemaking. I am fairly close to Fillmore Container in Lancaster, PA. I was fortunate enough to visit their facilities the other week. I had some c-3 wax in stock from my previous testing so I whipped it out the other day with their cranberry citrus fragrance oil, 7% pp, 2 dye chips per lb in cranberry and premier 767 wicks. Well I let it cure for a week. While the scent throw was wonderful, my wick was smoking and my melt pool was approx. 1/2" deep on my first burn. I don't like my melt pool to get that deep on the first burn. So I yanked that wick out and put in a premier 765. Well that might've not been one of my best ideas because the 765 just wasn't cutting it at all and my scent throw was gone. :rolleyes2 I have also dabbled in EZSoy wax (which I have had some inconsistencies in that wax from batch to batch). While I like this wax and don't have an issue with it, I have used the cd 12 wicks which are too hot and I get deep melt pools and sooting on my jars at 1 oz pp, the cd 10 was not producing a deep enough melt pool to throw. I have also tested eco wicks. They have lopped right over into my melt pool and fizzled out. I finally gave up on those. Does anyone have any helpful pointers??? I believe I am going to stay with the c-3 wax because I can get it here locally to save on shipping and I really do like the wax overall. :-)
  21. Hello all. I have learned so much from reading this board. I appreciate everyone's hard work and feedback. Stella, you are a tremendous encouragement and inspiration to me! Barbara in AL, Karen from OH, and Karen M, my thanks go out to you guys, too. Flicker from BC, without her I would have given up. So thanks again to EVERYONE that has taken the time and been patient with me while I learn. :-) I just wanted to share the scents that have worked so far for me in the EZSoy wax from Bittercreek. I will say that the cd wicks are working well for me, too. I use both the liquid dyes and dye chips. For some reason, the orange liquid dye no matter what company I use turns out a funky color, so I have to use the dye chips for those. Otherwise, I use liquids. :-) Citrus Splash - BCS Very Vanilla - BCN - after curing for a month (I forgot about it), the throw is great! Lemon Pucker - BCN Baked Apples - ICS - Fabulous! MacApple - CS Cookie Jar - BCN - is on the lighter side, but makes me crave cookies! Could anyone recommend a good Strawberry Jam fragrance oil? I have tried Backwoods, BCN and WSP. BCN was the best so far but smells a little off to me. Also, I was looking for a good juicy watermelon. I have tried CS and Gen Wax but looking more for a Juicy Watermelon type. I tried Bluegrass' too, and it threw the best for me but wasn't a favorite. :-)
  22. Hello all. I am rather new to these boards. I have read the boards extensively and I really appreciate everyone's input. I have been using EZSoy from Bittercreek, the dye chips (2 per lb of wax), 1 oz of fragrance oil, cd wicks with 8 oz jelly jar. I recently purchased my most favorite scent from Bittercreek, Honey Coco Mango. The oil came in an orangish color and not clear as usual. Well I made the candle the same way I always do and could not get this to burn for me at all. :-( Does anyone know of a supplier where I can find this scent or a scent almost identical to this? I contacted customer service and they really were not a whole lot of help. :undecided
