  1. Hi all, I didn't know where to put this but I have a question about recipes. I am going to make some incense and it says to use 1 part FO to 2 or 3 parts DPG. I have all the ingredients but what does part equal to? I have heard that term used for candles as well but was never really sure. Can someone please help me with this? Veronica
  2. Hi What part of Florida are you in? I have been trying to find a co-op for the Joy Wax but no one seems to do one that lives close by. :embarasse I even offered a lady that lives near NG to do one and I would cover shipping and gas for her to pick up and send it to me but she never replied. I guess that was a no..LOL! Does anyone know who would be doing a co-op from NG? Let me know! I really want to use that wax because I don't like the wax that I am using now but I have a supplier right here about 7-8 mins away from me which is great! Veronica
  3. I have waited a week, a day, 2 weeks. You name and I have waited for it. I don't know what else to do with this wax!
  4. I have been getting the same results you were. I am thinking about switching to something else also. What did you switch to that gave you better results? I am thinking about going with paraffin to see how that may work for me. Veronica
  5. Is it only soy that you can use Crisco with? I have used the Joy Wax and I loved it! The shipping is just too much for me. I'm in FLorida! Where can I get these LX wicks from? Somewhere close to FLorida of course! ) Thanks All! Veronica
  6. Hi All, I am thinking about changing from Soy wax to Paraffin and I would like to know what is the best brand of Paraffin wax being used now? I am looking for a single pour and it will be for votives, tarts, and containers! Eventually I will get to making dessert candles but not at the moment. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Veronica
  7. I haven't had anyone burn the candles for me. I guess that I can do that. What do you think would be a good temp to mix at? I have only burnt 1/2 lb. or 1 lb. for testing because I don't have a presto and I didn't want to waste too much wax at one time. SO could that be a problem also with getting a right temp? I am now leaving the thermometer inside my pouring pot when it gets close to time for me to take it off the heat. I was thinking that maybe I am not getting the right temperature from my thermometer because it says to put the thermometer at least 2 inches into the candy or fryer (whatever ) It will definitely save me a lot of money on shipping but I don't want to waste that extra money on testing a product that might not work for me...LOL! Is there something that I might need to change? Thanks! Veronica
  8. I am trying to use EL wax now because I have a supplier that is about 7-8 mins away from me. This will really save money for me on shipping costs. However, the more I use it, the more I am beginning not to like it. The supplier said that she loves it and it gives good everything and that's why she chose to become a supplier. I haven't been getting a good hot throw on my candles. I have been getting a hot throw for my tarts but not like I would like it. It is going to be a matter of choice for you once you start testing. I am fairly new and I am testing all 3 of their waxes and I can say that I do like the votive blend as far as not having to add anything to it for the candles to come out of the molds and tarts popping right out of the molds without freezing them or anything. But it's the hot throw that I don't like. I haven't been satisfied. I was speaking with a lady on this forum that changed from using soy wax to using paraffin and I believe that is what I am going to do because it has been taken over 2 weeks for my candles to cure and even after curing that long I still haven't gotten a good throw from them. The cold throw is great but not the hot throw. Speaking with the supplier, she said that I was doing everything ok. JMO HTH Veronica
  9. I'm not your sister so it's ok...LOL Anyway, I am adding the FO at 180-165F at different times. One thing that I am not doing anymore is pouring at 100F. My supplier said that since we are in Florida we should pour at a higher temperature because of the humidity and things of that nature. Should I try pouring at a lower temperature? I really want to use this wax because she lives 7-8 mins away from me and that saves me a lot on shipping costs. I know you know what I mean! Thanks so much for your help. I am very grateful! Veronica
  10. Thanks so much! I have used NG before and I really really really like their products. I think that I will go with them. I was very satisfied with their products and service! The only thing that I am not satisfied with is the shipping...arghh! Oh, what about Citronella. Is their bug be gone FO good too...LOL? Thanks everyone. Veronica
  11. Fern, You are really making me want to change from Soy. That is definitely something that I need. Maybe I can keep testing with the Soy while I use the paraffin. I am not making pillars right now. I am only making tarts, containers and votives. Soon I will be making the dessert candles. I think that eventually I will get to making the coffee cup candles as well! I am going to make almost everything scented. Thanks so much everyone for your help. I will look for the supplier by state link from the archives. I am going to try the paraffin probably this weekend. I know that if you are able to burn your candles as soon as they set, then the time that it takes for shipping 3-7 days would be a good time for the candles to cure. Veronica
  12. Hi Vicky, I was using 1oz. per lb. but I moved it up to 1 1/2 per the EL supplier. I am using 51-32-18 for my 1/2 pint canning jars. I get a full melt pool! The Joy Wax was awesome. I would use that wax if they were closer and if shipping wasn't so expensive. Thanks Veronica
  13. Thanks so much for your advice and input. I am seriously thinking about changing to straight paraffin. I have a EL supplier about 7-8 mins away from me and I am having a hard time using their wax. I really hate the frosting too! Do any of you know a Paraffin supplier near Florida? I think that she is the only supplier in Florida but she just has the EL waxes nothing else. She said that she loves it and it works great for her which is why she became a supplier but it's not working that good for me. Also what about cure time for straight paraffin? How long does it take to get a good hot throw from the cure time? It takes more than 2 weeks for this wax and I can't wait that long to find out if a scent is going to sell or if it is good to use. All help is greatly appreciated! Thanks Veronica
  14. Hi Everyone, I would like to know who has a strong Smoke and Odor Eliminator FO! I need to make this for someone and I need it ASAP! All input is greatly appreciated it. Veronica
  15. Hi All, I know that everyone has their own opinion about waxes, however, I am using Soy wax now and I would like to know who uses sraight paraffin and if paraffin gives off a stronger hot throw than soy wax. I am using all three EL waxes and I haven't been able to good a strong hot throw from either one of them except for in my tarts. I have used different FOs from different suppliers, etc. I like to have a strong hot throw in my candles. I have also been letting the candles cure for more than 2 weeks. Following directions and even uped the FO a little per supplier instructions. Can someone who uses straight paraffin let me know why you use it? If it has a better hot throw? and whatever else you can let me know about paraffin! Thanks Veronica
  16. Hi All, I would like to know if there is a wax that has a shorter cure time than 2 weeks? I am using all 3 EL waxes now and the more I use it the more I am starting to not like it. I want to use it because the supplier is in my city but it's not working for me. And it's taking more than 2 weeks for me to get a hot throw from the candles. The cold throws have been awesome but the hot throws haven't. I have made several candles with different FOs from different suppliers and I haven't had a strong hot throw in any of my candles yet. After 2 weeks or more, the hot throw is barely leaving the candle area. It stays in a small area around the candle. My tarts turn out fine but the candles don't. It takes well over 2 weeks for any hot throw to come and I would like something that I can cure and test within like 3 days or so, so that I will know if the candle is going to be good enough to sell or use. I used NG's Joy Wax candlemaking kit and the candles came out great! The cure time was about 2 days and the hot throw was out of this world. Can someone please help me. Also, if you use EL wax do you add anything to it to help the throw? Thanks Veronica
  17. Thanks to you all. I am a newbie and I am having the hardest times understanding the wick thing. I was looking into really starting with tarts and I had never thought about wickless candles, but this has given me an idea. I am still going to be learning and testing to find the perfect candles that I want but I can sell my tarts and things to help with some of the cost for testing I know that there is a lot of testing that has to be done and I really want to make candles so I am going to try one thing at a time...hehe I would like to know more about the firestarters also, since it is getting close to Winter. Is there someone that can lead me in the right direction? Do we have any threads just for firestarters? TIA Veronica
  18. Hi, I know that it doesn't sound like anyone would like their car to smell like a bakery scent but I know that there are a lot of people that like bakery scents and would possibly try a bakery scent in their car just to see if it smells the same way a candle would. I think that you should try at least 3 bakery scents that are YOUR best sellers, and advertise them a little more to see how well they go. I think that it's worth a try because I know that I would definitely buy a car freshner of a fragrance that I like in candles. Maybe you can put it on one of the apothecary jar blanks to give it that candle affect. Or if you don't have those, you can still put it on one of the other blanks that you have. I think that it's worth a try, sometimes the things that we don't like someone else will love it. I'm not trying to tell you how to run your business, but sometimes we limit ourselves on possibilities because we don't try them because of what we think, you know, JMO! I think that bakery scents would be great as a car freshner because it's different, it's not what everybody else is doing! Come to think of it, I made a Baked Apple Crisp Linen Spray and Air Freshner and I spray it in my car all the time just because I love the scent...LOL! Veronica
  19. I am definitely going to be mixing those 2 scents together. It also smells like it could be added for a soothing Holiday scent! It's not piney at all but it feels like you're sitting by a warm fireplace watching TV or reading a book drinking hot chocolate! Veronica
  20. Hi All, I don't know if any of you have ever tried this before, but I was making Love Spell candles and I have NG's Vanilla Silk going while I was making the other candles. Those 2 scents together smells ridiculously good!!! I have now decided that I am going to try to mix the 2 scents in one candle. I don't know if it can be done, but I am going to try it. I now have 2 5oz. Vanilla Silk candles burning and 1 mini muffin Love Spell tarts burning together and it smells GREAT!!! I got the Love Spell from Candle Chem! I just wanted to let you all know that someone needs to try those 2 smells together. They smell lovely!! I didn't know that as I was making the candles that it was going to smell that way but this scent is really to be reckoned with! LOL! Veronica:grin2:
  21. What about Crisco. I have heard that you can add a little Crisco to the wax and that makes the candle creamier and better scent throw. I have a shipment from EL coming in probably on Monday, so I will get testing to find out what is going to do the job! I havve tried my first batch today with NG's Joy Wax and I am loving it! I have to wait 3 days first to burn them. I may wait a little longer, I don't know! Veronica
  22. Hi That is the same way with me. I didn't want to do votives because I thought that they wouldn't smell up anything. I am a newbie and hearing you all and your testimonies about votives and their smell. I am going to try them. Do you have any tips for me? I don't know what would be a good wax for the votives. Do you have any favorite votive waxes out there that you use? Thanks a bunch. That is really encouraging to me to know that the smallest candles can make a big difference What about tarts? Can those give off a great hot throw also? Veronica
  23. Thanks everyone. That freaked me out because I have never seen that before! I put it back in and lit it up. It burned fine but didn't have any type of hot throw :rolleyes2 The cold throw was light but I could at least smell it! That's the reason for me starting to make candles so that I don't have to worry about all of that...LOL! My mother is patiently waiting I just finished pouring my first batch ever today!! I can't wait to burn them. I used a kit for it! It smells great! I really have to confess that I am an official candlemaking addict...LOL!! Thanks everyone for your responses! Veronica
  24. Hi Eveyone, I have a question that I am sure that many of you will be able to answer for me. My mother purchased some votives from Walmart and as I took them out of the box to put them in the holder, THE WICK FELL OUT !!! Now I am a newbie at making candles, which is why she went to get some from Walmart because I haven't made my first candle yet. But my question is why would the wick come out and is it supposed to come out of the candle once it has been finished and placed on shelves? Wouldn't that be a real liability issue if something were to happen? Please explain this to me! Veronica
  25. I also wanted to know have any of you ever used bakery scents or food scents in your rooom sprays and what were the results? Did your customers like them are they a big hit, etc? Thanks everyone! Veronica
