  1. I currently use 464. I mix a little paraffin with it to make it pour better. Great CT and HT for me. In another post I read good things about Cargill C-3 soy wax. I am picking some up tomorrow and testing later this week hopefully.
  2. I would not raise my price for the fundraiser - that may make some people unhappy. If you were offering me your wholesale price and I was making 40% of sales - I would be happy - that's fair and more than most fundraisers give. If it goes well, you can always donate more .
  3. I believe they were having a problem keeping up with customers late last year. I ordered mine early March and received it within 2 weeks. The phones are limited - mostly iPhones and Droids. I upgraded to the Droid 2. Way too much $$ with the carrier but found it online for 80.00 (with a 2 year contract of course). I looked at Propay but don't they charge you monthly? Maybe I'm remembering wrong, it's been 2 months and I looked at several. If you use it a lot, like a retail store, I think some of the others were better. I only need it for when I do events.
  4. Anyone looking for a way to charge credit cards? I've been checking into being able to accept credit cards at shows and the monthly fees, usage fees, and percentages looks like they would take a lot of your hard earned $$. Then I found Square - no fees and only a small % off all charges. I used it as an excuse to get a new smart phone . I used it at the show this past weekend and it worked great. Unfortunately I only had 2 charges. Just re-read this and it sounds like a commercial . Really, I'm not affiliated with them or anything, just thought I'd pass some info for anyone interested. What's everyone else using?
  5. Just bought an EZ-up from Sam's Club with 4 sides and feet attachments that make it easy to weight down for 199 plus tax. If you have a membership and one close by I highly recommend it. I would recommend setting it up the 1st time at home to become familiar with it and attach the top. Then it's EZ.
  6. I think the only Candle Science FO NOT recommended for soy is Dreamsicle. I mixed it though (before I read their recommendation), and it still did fairly well - not as good as the others I've tried from CS but still decent.
  7. Waiting for the wax to cool and wicks not sticking. Worse is wicks coming loose when pouring - Grrrr!
  8. Yeah, maybe say "quadrupled scented" so you can get one up on everyone else . How do you explain triple scented? It makes me think you add scent 3 times during the process. It is really an overused useless phrase.
  9. Nice start - under the picture on scents - did you mean "woodsy"? It is spelled "wodsy". Also, are these the scents available for your candles or scents available for other candlemakers to purchase? If your idea is for the buyer to pick a candle, then pick a scent, the tabs should be in the order you want them viewed. Good Luck!
  10. Back to the original thread . I liked he has 42 clamshells and 46 flavors??
  11. One of my favorite scents. That reminds me, I need to go pour some
  12. Hi DreamCatcher, Welcome to the board. As you have already found out, there's more to it than melting wax . I decided 4 months ago that I wanted to make candles. This weekend will be my 1st Arts & Crafts show to sell my creations. Reading this board has been invaluable to get to this point. It's not all about giving away trade secrets either, but tons about personal preference which comes from testing and experience. 3 months ago, I found a candlemaker selling out due to health reasons. 2 wax melters, thousands of containers, 100's of fragrances, several hundred pounds of wax, and lots of wicks. Everything needed to start into the business, right? Made my 1st candle and quickly found out I didn't like the container wax he was using. Someone earlier mentioned it as their favorite, but it doesn't work for me. New wax purchased that I like (luckily I already used GB464 making candles with the kids that I liked so not much trial and error). New wax, new candle, wicks not working like I want. More reading here, purchased several types of wicks, more testing, and I like the ECO line of wicks. New wax, new wicks, new candle and now I'm getting separation, frosting, ugly tops. More reading, more testing, well..... you get the picture. Also, searched out some ideas and found great advice, both business and testing, that has probably saved me some great headaches. Now I still have to test every fragrance in stock to see if it works for me. So far, about 80% of them have been great but I've only used a few (and yes I still had to buy some more fragrances too). It's been work, it's been fun, and there is still money going out but not much in. Hopefully, this weekend will start to make it all worth while. Thanks to all the support from family, friends, and all the great people here I think I have a very good product. With more research, experience, help from here, and testing it will get even better. Good Luck!
  13. I have been working at creating something similar but, after reading many of the posts here, I am starting to rethink. I have made several candles out of wine bottles and burned them with no issues and beautiful results. 30.00 WOW! - I'm having complaints about a 20.00 price tag. I'm not a lawyer, but I don't see any issue of reusing the jar with the label. It was approved by the company for use. Wouldn't it be the same as buying a decal of the label and applying it to the bottle? I believe the TM issue is in re-creating a label or name that was not approved by the company. 1. No $$ were paid to them for the use. 2. It doesn't meet their standards, image, or brand. That being said, if I received a cease and desist letter, I would definitely stop Interesting article Stella - Thanks.
  14. I can't speak for CB Advanced (haven't tried it) but I get excellent HT with 464. Thanks to reading everyone's help here, I'm now getting decent looking candles out of it also (most of the time )
