  1. I had some mulberry from Peaks when I first got my supplies but only had a little bit of it . Since I live close to Lone Star I picked some up from there. Not so fond of it. But I got a sample from BCN or BCS, sorry can't remember off hand which one, and I fell in love with it! The scent filled my downstairs when was test burning.
  2. Thanks for the tips. I will probably try remelting the mottle, or not mottle, lol, and try again. Pam, your too kind :smiley2: My kids & husband thought it was REALLY ugly! And I keep looking at it trying to decide :undecided Really Scented? Pour cooler than 150 on the rustic? It seemed like it was already getting sloshy and sticking to the pour pot when I was pouring it. I'll have to try that on my next attempt along with the mold chilled a little. I think I was getting ahead of myself trying to pour a layered rustic before attempting a regular rustic
  3. Ok, this is my first, what is supposed to be a, mottled and a rustic pillar. I obviously didn't pour my layers close enough together in the rustic, as it looks like I could just break apart each layer. But I still don't have any of the frosting. And I have no clue what happened with the mottled. Here's what I did: Mottled - Wax 1343, UV 1/2tsp ppw, Steric Acid 2tbsp ppw, FO 5%. heated wax to 185, added everything and poured at 185 into a semi-warmed seamless mold & cooled under a box. Rustic - Same additives, different scent added at 180, cooled to 150 & poured into a seamless, room temp. mold and let cool at room temp. Suggestions???
  4. Maybe I'll have to try that with my Patch that I got from Peaks. I only got it because everyone raved about it on this forum and I'd never smelled it. It stinks like dirt oob. I haven't put it in anything yet though........ Sorry, didn't mean to change subjects, lol.
  5. Welcome from a pretty new newbie here also!! Hope you are enjoying this addiction as much as I am
  6. I live about 40min from LoneStar myself and was there last week. It's great having a supplier so close to save on shipping. Just wait till you walk in and see all their scents lined up on the wall for you to smell That can be a good or bad thing, LOL. Enjoy your new adventure!
  7. Believe me! I think I've read so many threads both on the 6006 & the jars I have & wicking that my brain feels like it's spinning, LOL. I've been trying to jot things down as I read good suggestions:) I actually went against everyone else's advice, before they posted it on this thread of course*hiding*, about sticking with a wax and took yours Steve and added 15% 464 to my 6006 :smiley2: They are curing now & will burn them early next week. We shall see..........
  8. These girls have a lot more knowledge than I do in this area but what I can tell you is that, in my 8 short months of making candles, I am NO WHERE NEAR ready to sell a candle! I got all my initial candle making stuff from a former candler for a very cheap price and didn't think I would need anything else. Yet I just added up my receipts and I've spent about $1000 more already:eek: (sshhhh, don't tell DH:)) I have tested, tested, tested, and retested my jars and still haven't got one to burn as perfect as I want, to be able to sell, let alone give away to co-workers who keep asking me for one. I never knew what I was getting into when I said I would take this stuff off my friends hands:smiley2: but I LOVE doing it and can't seem to get enough of it:cheesy2:
  9. Thanks! I will definitely try it because I like the look of those jars. I really do think that I started out wicking everything way to big:eek: It's been a slow learning process
  10. Well, I got a sample pack of Eco's & HTP's because I was on the CS site and that's what they recommended for the 6006 wax. But I found that the eco's seem to smoke and soot a lot for me. I also have large quantities of, pretty much every size, CD & LX's that I got from my friend. I'm finally narrowing down on the small 7oz libby cube between the HTP & LX on a couple fragrances but I also have one curing with a CD in it. I only have the 8oz Tureen and I haven't had any luck with those with any single wick
  11. Oh, and I will attempt to post some pics of what I've done in the Candle Gallery if I can figure it out!!
  12. Definitely an addicting hobby!! I was reading sooo many threads here and trying to figure out wicking, it's all I had on my mind. I swore I woke up one night from dreaming about candles & what wick to try next, LOL. I guess I should post my wicking woe's on another thread if I can't find my answers in an old thread :smiley2:
  13. Yes, I realize that. Right now I'm pretty happy with this wax. I will be sticking with it for a while since I just bought a case of it while at Lone Star the other day. For me I've had nice smooth tops and pretty good jar adhesion. Just trying my hardest to figure out the whole wick thing.
  14. Thanks for the welcome! I'm using IGI 6006 for my containers. At least my friend is 95% sure that's what was in the tub she gave me, lol. I had like 45lbs of it so I'm using it for my learning wax. Nope, not an injured RN.......at least not yet, lol.
  15. I thought I'd finally chime in and say Hi. I actually have been reading this forum for several weeks now and finally joined a couple weeks ago and love all that I'm learning I wish I had known about this sight when I first obtained my candle stuff. I came about candle making about 7-8 months ago when I inherited(for a small price) a TON of candle making supplies from a co-worker & friend. Her daughter had a little business when she was in high-school about 5 or 6 years ago but was no longer doing it and dear mama wanted the stuff out of her garage. I gladly took it off her hands. I'm sure many of you long term board members know both mom & daughter as they were members here too. I didn't believe her when she said it all wouldn't fit in my small SUV and to bring my DH full size pickup. Sure enough, we filled the bed of the truck and some in the back seat! Anyway, I started out making votives because I thought they would be easiest and I wanted to sell them to raise money for the 3-Day for the cure walk I was doing. I KNOW, I KNOW! That's NOT the way I'm supposed to do it and I know that now that I'm on here :embarasse But I did get pretty good at it & I did test them first and put warning labels on them :smiley2: Only sold them to co-workers & friends of mine and DH. Since then I have been playing & trying different things. Probably too many different things! I'm now taking a step back focusing on my jars and to get that "perfect burn" as I'd eventually like to start my own business. Unfortunately from reading here, I inherited the hardest to wick jars. Libby cubes, & Tureens. Haven't TOTALLY given up on them yet but pretty darn close:( Ok, enough rambling! Now you know how I started and somewhat where I'm at. I'm glad to be a part of this great forum! Maybe I will even post some of my early experiments:)
