  1. and what did you think of that wick chart? it had all kinds of combinations on it for many diff waxes and containers.
  2. it has12 sides i have taken your advice an ordered a sample pack of lx wicks berts didnt have the 21 so i ordered a 22 hopefully i will have some succes with it. thank you for all your help soy it is nice to know that others enjoy this as much as i do... i just love when it smells good around the house
  3. lol eric i bet you lol at them when they do things like this.
  4. here is the jar im talking about http://www.lonestarcandlesupply.com/products/candlecontainers_classic-jar-16oz.html
  5. also soy i forgot to mention i ordered 10 pounds of the ky parasaoy tart wax and am going to give tarts a whirl at the end of this week. this stuff is just so much fun!!!
  6. lol soy i have only been making candles for a few months now and have seen what trying to learn something new is like! i first started out with 4633 and really didnt like it. it seemed that the fo when put in it smelled rather fuely. i swapped to the 4627 and i love it!!!! its a little messy to work with as far as cutting it up and getting it ready for the presto pot. i have decided since this wax seems to have everything i love im trying my best to stick with it and get it tested in all kinds of containers. the 31 oz seems to like the dual 51's and also the ww it makes a really good crackling sound. i have also been testing the 16oz classic jar and it is making my head spin. i have tried zinc 51's,60's,and 62's and none seem hot enough so i have ordered more sampler kits in to test further. i do however have a sample kit of wood wicks and i tried it as well and my findings with it are that the large wick is not enough and will not get a full melt pool in 1 1/2 hours so i yanked it let the candle reharden and tried the xl wick and it is way to hot!! it looks like a bonfire and smokes something terrible. so i have been doing my fair share of hair pulling these last few days myself lol. im thinking i will try cutting one of the xl wood wicks down a little bit as far as width to something in between xl and L and see what that does. as far as wicking this jar all i know to do is order different things and try them. i did however find this page and thought it may have been of some use here. im going to take the advice on my 16oz classic jar and try an lx21 and see what happens. http://yourwebapps.com/WebApps/db-view.cgi?id=71493;revsort=8;;
  7. that is alot to take in SOY!! lol i have been testing several of these this week and have found that using the two 51's the jar isnt to hot and doesnt get smoked out either. i also tried some wood wicks and it seems that the xl works good exept i have noticed when testing wood wicks that they smoke like the dickens untill they get a little meltpool around them then they burn just fine and crackle like they are supposed to. is this normal with wood wicks?
  8. here is the jar i am using http://www.lonestarcandlesupply.com/products/candlecontainers_libbey-storage-jar-31oz.html i used two zinc 51 in my other tester which is mullberry and it has a very nice ht im thinking that the berry bramble may just be one of those scents that arent really over powering or might need a lil more fo. it smells great i just wished it was stronger if that makes sense
  9. hey guys i am trying a new conatiner. its a 31 oz libbey storage container. i have added 1.25 oz per lb of 4627 and have wicked with one zinc 62-52-18 and didnt get a full melt pool after 3 hours so i yanked the wick and used one htp 1212 with the same results. so i yanked as i did before and started scratching my head. this is only the second container i have tried as i am still very new to making candles but am very eager to learn lol. i have been reading and reading and have seen where some people have used two wicks in this container so i tried that with two zinc 51's and have gotten a full melt pool after about thirty minutes. it has been burning for roughly 4 hours now and has a nice full melt pool approx 1/2 inch deep. the hot throw is one of my questions and i know you will say it could be the fo so i poured a different fo to test after this one. what i am wanting to know is i can smell the scent which is berry bramble from lonestar but it doesnt seem very strong like other scents like mango as well as my favorite clean cotton. so could it possibly be that i need to wick up to two zinc 60's? what is throwing me off is when you see this exact same container somewhere like yankee or from the store they only come with one wick and they achieve full melt pools. i dont want to over wick my conatiner and make something unsafe so how will i know if two zinc 60's are two much? i think i will test a mullberry scent with two of the 51's to see if that ht is better because it is one of my more overpowering fo's in my smaller classic jar conatiners. please lend me some guidence as well as wish me luck lol thanks guys for all your help.
  10. im with you candy bee i started off using the 4630 but it fails to compare to the 4627 comfort blend. but i just started this hobby and have only tried the two waxes.......i dont see myself changing waxes in the future as i think the 4627 has everything im looking for.....it is a lil more expensive than other waxes and is a mess to cut up but i believe it is well worth it
  11. i am wondering the same how long has this wax been out of stock if any of you guys watch her site regularly?
  12. thanks satin ducky thats kinda the conclussion i had came too myself. it makes me feel better to hear it from someone who has had prior knowledge. i think ill give it a shot and see what i can come up with. i have to do some research and figure out a whole new set of wick testing and what all i will need to order to get started and if i may ask what style wick works best in parafin?
  13. thanks guys that is how i have been testing my candles is pouring three with out wicks then using a skewer to poke a wick hole in the center. i have just gotten another shipment in and have ordered a new jar to play with as i am feeling confident i can figure this one out a lil bit easier than the last as this jar is very similar in size of what i am using now. its just a shade smaller and im hoping it will either be the htp 104 or the zinc 60 i just poured a few clean cotton testers and am waiting for them to cool. wish me luck and thanks again guys for the input it truely helps alot to us new hobbist
  14. sliver i understand what your saying as each are their own breed of wax. i am just scared of messing with soy as i read horror stories about it. im thinking ill order some 1274 and some votive supplies and give it a whirl. if i was pouring tarts in a clam shell would this wax work with out adding anything extra. also thanks for the info satin ducky do you find that your votives smell as good as your conatiners?
  15. i use a large knife and cut slabs off the block. i set the whole bag upside down and peel the bag off of it. it normally works best if you split all four sides of the bag. once the bag is off i just carve off what i need and keep spinning the cutting board my block is on. hth
  16. thanks silverfox for the input id like to stay all parafin if possible just because it is what i have started using with my containers and do not wish to screw anything up lol.
  17. thank you for the link cellar. i just dont know which wax to pick. the one thing i see about the soy wax votives is they burn slower. have you always poured parafin votives? if not what was your take on the soy?
  18. are there any things you do differently with soy that you do with parafin in your soy votives? i mean is it pretty much like pouring a conatiner candle just melt reach temp add fo and pour? i have read about tempering and other methods as well as using a heat gun on the tops of soy candles to smooth them out. do you have any of these problems from your soy wax?
  19. just wanted top say that the clean cotton fo i ordered from candle science is the most awesome new fragrance i have made. this thing has the whole house smelling like the clean scent of clothes fresh out of the dryer.
  20. i have just gotten into this hobby of candle making and am very excited. i am still testing all of my fo's in the one size container and all i can say is wow!!!! i have given a few to friends to test and everyone says they are great and has asked if i can make votives and tea lights. i feel confident that i couldnt muck up the tea lights but the votives have me a lil leary or shall i say scared that i wouldnt make them right. i have been reading up on alot of votive threads and have seen where it seems most people are using soy for votives. the wax i use now is parafin based and i have read everyone saying they are in no way shape form or fashion the same two peas in a pod. if any exp. votive makers could chime in and kinda take a poll i would greatly appreciate it. and also is soy really that hard to work with?
  21. looks great scotty!!! have you ever tried these swirling techniques in a parafin based wax?
  22. i will get pics up soon i have been procrastinating lol
  23. i understand their reasoning with not wanting to do any kind of refund the thing that i was upset about was the fact that i ordered three days before the storm hit in dallas so my packages should have been gone before the weather even got bad. but on another note i am so pleased with my new candles they are burning nicely and smell fabulous. i ended up going with the zinc 60-44-18 and am getting a full mp as well as no soot on my containers i am however getting decent size mushrooms on my wicks. the htp 104 is leaving hang up on the jar and doesnt seem the have the ht that the zinc does. i think i have got this one figured out and am going to order some different style containers to experiment with apothecary jars with lids or some type of larger storage jar similar to the large size yankee candle jars. im so excited about this i cant wait!!
  24. well after waiting and waiting upon more waiting my shipment from lonestar arrived this evening. Due to the weather my order that i placed on the 31st of Jan just got here. i called lonestart and they offered no compensation of any kind what so ever. i will say this upset me very much as you all know what it is like to pay an arm and a leg to ship supplies. but i will not let this bother me as i have now gotten the comfort blend wax and many different fo's as well as some of every kind of wick and size that bert's offered with the exception of wood wicks. i have melted one pound of wax and added 1 1/4 oz of pound cake fo. i added fo at 180 and poured at 160. i poured into 8 oz tumblers that measure Height: 3.25" Base Diameter: 2.875" Widest Diameter: 2.875" Top Diameter: 2.875" Wax Capacity (to fill line): 6.2 oz Wax Capacity (Overflow): 6.9 oz i poured three candles each with different wicks htp 104 and zinc 60-44-18 and zinc 51-32-18. my candles are setting up and i am anxiously awaiting the time i will be able to test these as just adding the fo has my home smelling wonderful!! i cannot express how much my new hobby and very helpful people here have influenced my day to day random thoughts lol i have found my self daydreaming about making candles.......chalk it up i am hooked. do any of the rest of you do this?
