You could use any of the names that have actual historical referances without a problem. While Jack Sparrow might be a copywrite issue you could easily use something similar like "Crazy Jack" and folks will probobly make the connection on thier own.

The last 10-15 degrees of heating the wax always seems to take forever. Accidently bumping wicks off center Neurotically analysing flame height and flicker levels while test candle is burning instead of just enjoying the silly thing.

I noticed the other day that mimosa smells very similar to the traditional baby oil scent. I don't think it's the full scent blend or anything but I think that a lavender + mimosa + chamomile blend would get that "Smells so much like baby" reaction. In my other life one of the products I am a retail rep for is a diaper ointment. It's also great for adults for heat rash. I get obnoxious heat rash in the summer & always just used baby powder or suffered until I started working for this company and realized that. I'm sure I'm not the only grown up that never thought to use baby products on themselves . .

Good news! OK sort of. Candles and Supplies just checked thier last shippment and found out that it's runnier than usual so they'll be getting more in and sending me another sample. I don't have to fix the problem on my end! And the sanitzer is great as far as being affective and not drying so if it's thicker I should be really happy with it. She should be sending me another sample when the new product is in.

That can't be right. I know that I've burned many of the store bought ones down to the last few inches and I've been wick testing containers like this & I know I've gotten more than 2" before I decided that the wick wasn't right yet. Of course I haven't found the right one, but I've been a little distracted. Umm I'm sending her another email . . . The Sure Jel she's talking about says add 1 package to 3/4 cups in a saucepan and bring to boil while stirring. I'm pretty sure boiling the sanitizer is a bad idea . . . .

I wrote Candles and Supplies about this & this because I was still worried about compromising the base & this was the reply I got: You can actually add a product called Sure Jel. You can find this located in the canning aisle at the grocery store. On the package where it states to add the water to the product you use the sanitizer in place of that.

I'm currently experimenting with packaging other than saran because of the PITA & amount of time issues. I typically like to put labels on the back side of my soaps and I am sticker + saran challenged so what I have been doing in the past is cutting the saran to close to the size of the soap and stretching over then front, than laying my labels (I use vellum) on it and doing the same thing with the saran only going up the sides. I usually have to put a piece of scotch tape in a spot or two to make sure it sticks good because I cut it so much to keep it clear. It's a definate PITA but it looks nice . .

OK the problem you're having is that there's no such thing as a straight lilly flower. The most common lilly is called Asiatic Lily, but it doesn't actually have a smell so that's not much help. I'd get a Stargazer or Casablanca and then the most basic white lily fragrance you can find and bring them to your customer to pick. Chances are she's thinking of the Stargazer of Casablanca but doesn't know it's name. What you don't want to do is get anything Lily of the Valley. Completely different.

I believe the pine you're thinking of is Sugar Pine. There's alot of them in the high desert and they're really majestic & yummy smelling.

It will depend on the store. Some places pull their product immeadiately after the holiday and send it to the manufacturer or thier warehouse. It might be best to go on easter proper or in the morning the day after to get the best opprotunity. The manager is usually in in the mornings on weekdays so that's the best time to talk to them about doing a special discount.

Hello - I'm trying out a hand sanitizer base. I got a sample from candles & supplies which according to the ingrediants list should be the same as BCN's I'm generally liking it. It seem so be moisturising like they advertised. The problem is it's also pretty runny. Is there a good way to thicken this? Maybe something that would make it more of a gel like the ones in the stores? Maybe add a butter? It shouldn't be like a lotion where the perservative would be thrown off . . . but it also might be altering it too much to make it saleable because it's got the whole OTC drug issue?

What rums have you sampled? I'm looking for one myself

LOL @ the brown floaties & thanks Billie. That's exactly what I was wanting to know. I hadn't thought of coco butter causing breakouts. Do they melt at a different rate with mango butter? I thought I remembered it being softer than coco. Would experimenting with "exotic" butters that are really just oils blended into palm be good for this, or would the palm also lead to breakouts. There's some kukui butter at the place here in town that is seeming interesting.

What size of mold do you suggest for these? Obviously there's a little play room, but there's obviously a "isn't worth it" size and a "way too big" size.

The dishsoap has been my way of getting FO off of things too. I use a ton of it to clean out bottles. Seriously squeese some into the bottle and roll it around on the sides & rinse until it stops bubbling. With the lips I ususally run to the bathroom and wash my face with milk soap. It doesn't make all the FO go away but it makes it stop burning, which makes me happy. I'm with you on the hating gloves. I've never been able to stand not touching things. It used to drive my dad crazy when I kept taking them off when we were out cutting wood or I was working in the garden but I perfer splinters to feeling like a complete klutz.

I don't mind getting it on my hands, but somehow I keep getting FO on my lips and that's really not pleasant!
