  1. I haven't done a batch of soap in over 1 1/2 weeks. I need to make a batch of Cherry Blossom for a friend with a sick child (I'm sending a basket of goodies now and will send this when it's ready). And I'll probably do one other recipe, it's easier for me to do 2 instead of 1, same amount of clean up. I also need to make some Whipped Body Frosting (for same friend), bath salts and some other stuff. Maybe not all this weekend, but sometime in the next week. DD goes up to St Louis for Labor day and will drop the basket off for us.
  2. Dh hunts and we eat deer meat all year long, ground meat, mostly, and back strap. It saves me alot at the grocery store, too bad you can't hunt chicken, too!
  3. He didn't want buck lure, he wanted a soap to cover body scent. He had some stuff in a spray bottle from last year, it was pretty close to the soap I made. The body spray would be for the clothes. One of his friends wanted soap made with deer urine, but I told him the scent wouldn't last with the lye and I really wouldn't want to make that anyway. Yuck!
  4. I made a CP Soap for DH, my brother and his kids-they all hunt. I made a mix out Dirt and Sweetgrass Fragrance oils and Cedarwood and some Fir needle E/O. The soap is almost finished curing and smells like the cover spray DH uses (he picked out the scents). You could use that combination as a body spray. I figured I'd make him one, as the soap won't cover the scent on his clothes and such. Good luck.
  5. Yes, there was a recipe of the Sage website, I use heavy cream, half and half or whole milk (or a combination of them) and it comes out great. Is this the one you're talking about? http://blog.thesage.com/2010/03/30/milk-soap-challenge-%e2%80%93-sheep-milk/ It soaps great, but with any milk soap, it speeds up once the milk is in. Good luck
  6. This is a hobby I do for myself, since I really enjoy making soap and actually getting creative every now and then. The benefits go to anyone who wants it (they all love free soap). And people think I'm a brain surgeon because I can "make" soap. Anyone who can follow a recipe (and respect the lye) can make soap. I do notice that family members now call up and ask me "if you have any ______ laying around, we love some more!" Yes, I have lots of soap bars laying around, but have just dabbled in sugar scrubs, bath salts and Whipped body frosting (given to sister and sister in law to try)-not anything just laying around. And, even though I've been making soap in last fall, I still get a thrill out of a new batch of soap when I finally get to try it in the bath. So, no, you're not alone and it's not just the new soapers that do that.
  7. I'm hoping to do a couple of batches sometime today or tomorrow, but have to clean up the yard before TS Bonnie visits(DH off to the shooting range today). Maybe tomorrow when I can stay at home and watch the rain. I don't really have an idea what I'll soap yet, just feel the need to make a couple of batches for my sanity.
  8. It smells like the incense they use in Catholic churches at Christmas time.
  9. It's from WSP and it wasn't expensive. Here's the link. http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/ProductDetail.aspx?CatalogID=4&GroupID=227&CategoryID=754&ProductID=3584&ProductName=Crafters+Choice%e2%84%a2+Frankincense+%26+Myrrh+Natural+EO+Blend+594 It smell heavenly, This is the second batch I made. If no one else likes it, that's more for me!
  10. I poured some of the soap for the white before I put the Frankincense & Myrrh E/O blend in. So in theory, it shouldn't, but you never know with soap.
  11. WSP, I bought it about 6 months ago, just kept sniffing it and couldn't really say I was enthused about it. But, gosh, in the soap, it's really nice. I really like it.
  12. Here's a couple of batches I did in the last couple of weeks. Oakmoss-great scent, don't know why I didn't soap it sooner. Cut bars My second batch of Frankincense & Myrrh (love this E/O Blend!) Cut bars, (they'll darken to dark brown, I used Pearl white for the swirl) Autumn Wreath Cut bars thanks for looking, maybe more soap batches tomorrow (fingers crossed)
  13. That's one of the first things I did was rewash the bedding. If fact I changed the sheets with ones I hadn't used in a while. No such luck. I'll probably wash them again the end of the week, I've been using vinegar as the softener in the rinse cycle and throwing them in the dryer with just the dryer balls. And on a side note, I had bumps mostly on my arms and legs, and places where my clothes weren't! The last place I got them was on my stomach. I guess it's just going to be process of elemination.
  14. The first day or two after cutting, I leave them on bake cooling racks. Then transfer to a open weave plastic basket to go onto wire shelves (in the laundry room) with fans blowing on them. I put an index card with batch #, recipe, date made and how many bars were in the batch in the front of the basket, so I can figure out when to transfer them. I put them in 18" long cardboard box to sit on another wire shelve in my DD's room (until next month when she comes back home) where the cured soap sits-index card gos on front of box.
  15. I had my sister's dog here while they were on vacation. When she came to pick her up I asked her if the dog had flea and tick stuff on her and she said no! I was shocked, but that's why I put the flea powder down in the carpet, to make sure we didn't get any. The dog was scratching while she was here, but I don't think we have any. Both my dog get a flea/tick pill once a month to prevent flea and tick from biting them. I did start a new box (the same brand and scent) of dryer sheets, I stopped about a week ago, just to see if it made a difference. I thought that maybe they might have changed something in the formula or maybe it was just aggrevating the situation. I was pretty good for about 2 days, didn't have to take benedryl or anything and the bumps weren't bugging me, but early this morning they kicked up again. I'm still trying to eliminate things, but I would think if it was the soaps, that every night I would be itching worse right after the bath from using them. I could break down and use Lever for a night, I guess. Yuck! Thanks guys.
  16. Hi all, I started with itchy little bumps about 6 weeks ago, the dermatologist thinks it's a contact rash. I started itching in the shins of my legs, then up by my neckline and then to my arms and the trunk of my body lastly. I haven't changed any detergents, gone anywhere different or anything like that. I did put flea stuff down on the carpets (only in the bedrooms-about 1 hour and vacuumed back up), opened a new box of dryer sheets and was using sea salt in food. Everyone keeps asking me if it could be my soaps! I usually don't get itchy until sometime in the early hours of the a.m., right before waking up. My reasoning that it isn't the soap-I would be itching right after my bath (around 6 p.m.) not 3 or 4 a.m. What do you guys think? I've been using my soaps since around November, could I develope an allergy at this point? Thanks BTW-it was settled down for the last couple of days and I woke up this a.m. itching again.

  18. I made some soap with Chocolate f/o and cocoa powder for color, it did smell great, no one really went crazy over it. I ended up using one bar to make chocolate curls (they looked like tortoise shell) to put into a coconut milk soap bar (coconut f/o, too). It turned out really well and I got rid of one of the bars. The rest are still sitting with all my other soaps.
  19. Good to know, I have 10 lbs of shea (refined) coming in the next 2 days.

  23. Cashmere woods is from WSP. I didn't like it OOB, but it's growing on me in the soap, patchouli and vanilla are the two scents I get. Witching Hour is Nature's Garden I get ice tea and cinnamon. I don't remember what the description was. It's okay, I didn't know that it would turn neon yellow after gel.
