  1. I have read where a few people use their same container wax and add pillar/votive wax to it to harden it up some. I have made some with J223 and I believe it was the IGI 4614A (was called Dussek2275 back when I used it). It worked well but I don't sell to the public. Only make for friends and family. HTH
  2. I love this 6006 but I can't seem to get it wicked right. I gave up on the 8 oz regular jelly jars(really wanted larger opening anyway), bought some 8 oz round jars and 16 oz round jars from Wick's Wares. I tested both in a few scents with CD's and zincs and could not get them single wicked. I am really not liking the CD wicks right now. They seem to burn down more rather than out. I can't even get a full melt pool with a cD14 in the 8 oz round which is about 2-7/8 in diameter at the widest portion. I have gotten one scent to wick right in the 8 oz with an HTP 105. Anyway, sorry to ramble, I just ordered some 12 oz and 16 oz salsa jars which are, if I remember correctly, ar both about 3.5 inch in diameter. Should I double wick these? And would maybe start with 2-HTP-73's or maybe 2-CD-8's? I just need a starting point with these jars. I am still working on the 8 oz rounds. I am getting awesome throw with the CD's but they won't burn right for me. Test, Test, Test. Gotta love IT. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me to try and start with.
  3. I have been testing 6006 and just buying by the slabs. I have that same problem. I have been pouring testers and then poking a hole for the wick and the whole candle releases from the jar and same thing that someone else mentioned, when you burn it it adheres back to the jar. I have also noticed it on my own formula (mixture of different waxes) that I came up with and it is doing the same thing. Weird.
  4. I have read also that you can inject them with the oil inside their stuffing. And you can hang them just like you do the air fresheners, from your rear view mirror. Or just inject a tiny bit of Fo that way it doesn't come through the material and actually have a scented keychain to put on your keys. Just a thought.
  5. I love this board!!!!! I am with you. I have learned so much in just a little bit of time just reading this board. Welcome aboard. I am fairly new too and haven't posted much but have read alot.
  6. Can anybody tell me why I am getting craters beside my wick. I am using 6006, 8 oz jj. I am heating my wax between 185-190, pouring fo, mixing, and letting it cool to about 170 and pouring. I have also tried pouring a little hotter and a tad cooler but still getting craters beside the wick. I always do a repour anyway but was just wondering why it does it. Kind of like a big air bubble that has burst and opened up at the top. I also tap my containers to get the air bubbles out after I pour.
  7. I had to post again. I had just emailed Brenda and this is Sunday. I was not expecting an email back until tomorrow on Monday. I just got a popup saying I had a new email and it was from her. That was fast. I am definitely going to give this company a try on their products. I love great customer service.
  8. I just emailed them. I can't wait. I love finding suppliers in Texas. I ordered the Maduro to try. I will post my results after I get it. Hopefully everybody else will post too. When I have extra money(don't know when that will be, don't have a business just an expensive hobby) I am going to order some more samples.
  9. I had the same issue with J223 and that is why I was trying to switch to another wax. I fell in love with the scen throw from 6006 but can't get the darn wax wicked right. Plus I can pick 6006 up locally. I didn't know if I should try a smaller wick or go up another size. I think I am going to pull them out and try a smaller wick just to see because these are getting real deep right by the wick but hanging up in the side. Back to testing. I actually have my wicks here at my office so I can test here while I work (in a medical office, but people say we have the best smelling office)
  10. Here is my setup. I am using 6006 wax. 8 oz & 16 oz round jars, 1 oz FO pp. Apple Pie from Bluegrass. 8 oz I am using a CD14 (already tried a CD12, not a full melt pool). 16 oz I am using a CD18. The 8 oz jar, widest diameter is a little under 3 “ and the 16 oz is about 3.5”. The 8 oz is half way gone about 5 burns I believe. I have let it burn first for 4 hours then for 3-1/2 hours every other burn and it still will not get a full melt pool. The melt pool feels deep by the wick but it does not go all the way out to the edge of the glass. The scent throw is still awesome though. The edges are sloped edges and are still sliding down as the candle burns. The 16 oz is doing the same thing. I am still pretty much at the top on that one. This is its 3rd burn. Awesome throw on this one too. Why can’t I get a full melt pool? I am afraid to go up on wicks anymore than what I am using now. The glass is not getting too hot either right now. Should I try wicking up again. The zincs are doing the same thing using the same containers, different FO but using a 44-32z in the 8 oz and 60z in the 16 oz. Again awesome throw but still not getting a full melt pool. I am about to pull my hair out with this wax. I love the way it throws but I can’t seem to wick it right. I have also tried the HTP’s and did not like those. Any advice would be appreciated.
  11. I got my CD sample pack in and so I stuck a CD12 in one of my candles (CD10 did not do the trick, heavy FO) This is in an 8 oz jelly jar and I have hardly no throw. I have a perfect flame, perfect melt pool but hardly a throw. Now this same candle I had a 51z in and I was not getting a full melt pool but the throw was awesome from the zinc. This has happened with two of my FO’s so far in testing. My question is has anybody ever had two different wicks throw differently even though you are getting a beautiful melt pool? Wicks are driving me nuts. One of the fo's I was testing was in 6006 wax, 1.25 oz pp FO, and just a little chip off of a jade dye block for Key Lime color. I was getting a better throw with the zinc that was not getting a full melt pool than the CD that was getting a perfect melt pool. It is just weird to me. I really hate these stupid wicks!!
  12. Thank you everybody, got my answer. Now I have several to choose from. Thanks again.
  13. I have heard some people have good results with the zinc but the little bit of testing I did I got a lot of soot and about 2-1/2 hours into the burn my flame would be huge about 2 to 2-1/2 inches and that is even trimming the wick down to about 1/8 inch. I tried to go down a wick size and then my melt pool wouldn't be right so now I am to test CD wicks.
  14. Does anybody know where I can get these or any similar looking containers that are cost effective. Houston Candle Supply has them but they have been out and I wanted to make these instead of the 8 oz jelly jars because they have a bigger opening to release the scent more. I really like the way they look for a cheaper made candle than the apoth or tureen jars and I think my friends would like them better than the 8 oz jellys too. Any help would be appreciated. Oh, I have now moved up from a lurker to a wax drip!!! Yeeepppee!!!!! I would post and reply more but I am only a part time maker for friends and family and don't have a business so I am not as experienced but I did start testing again so hopefully I can't help more.
  15. I am just now testing 6006 and so far I like the scent throw just trying to get the wick right. I am going to try and start testing CD wicks this weekend. I have been frustrated with the zincs and HTP in this wax just can't get them to burn right and too much soot. Sorry can't be of much help but I would recommend getting a slab to test. I have only tested about 5 scents so far but all have thrown well in it even without the proper wick.
  16. Thanks Blondiee. I got my sample packs of CD in and I am going to hopefully start testing this weekend.
  17. To about the the first ring where the lid goes on it is about 3 oz I believe. I pour wickless candles for these and it is usually 3 oz or tiny bit less.
  18. I just make for friends and family so I don’t buy many anymore but when I do I love Peak’s (my favorites so far Blackberry Tea & Cornucopia), Bluegrass. I also buy from BCS, BCN, Just Scent, Snowtop, Fragrance Frenzie.
  19. I came across them and they are in Grand Prairie, Texas. Just wondering if anybody has tried them.
  20. Would a CD 10 be a good starting point to start testing in 6006 wax, 8 oz regular straight sided jelly jar? I have been testing this wax and really can’t find a good wick. I have not been very pleased with my testing of zinc and HTP’s and so I wanted to start testing the CD but just needed a good starting point. Here are my results so far. I tried the 93 HTP too small, 105 burned okay but I was not impressed with the scent throw and got some smoking. The 51z, not impressed with the scent throw and towards the middle to the end of the candle the flame and melt pool were way too big, first part of the candle burned okay. 44-32z are burning good in most of the scents I have tested but again there are some that toward the middle of the candle the flame gets too big and I am still having the smoking issue but the scent throw is good. 44-24z too small. One of my scents with the 44-32z it burns perfectly melt pool good but after about 2-1/2 hours the flame is big and dancing. The melt pool stays around 1/8 to ¼ inch though but I don’t like that big flame and smoke. So here I am, going to try some more wicks. If I can get this wax and wick right I can pick this wax up locally.
