  1. Do you still do this if your wax has the same lot number on it?
  2. Dixiegal~ I love your sense of humor :laugh2:lol I couldn't get the 464 to work for me either. It just didn't have the scent throw that the c3 has so it was too hard for me to switch. It poured beautifully though and I wanted it to work real bad but I just didn't get along with it either....hehe I stil have a bunch of the wax left so maybe i'll give it another whirl sometime
  3. Do you re-test with the wax to make sure it hasn't changed at all (even though it's the same wax you've been using from the same supplier) Also, if you do re-test, how do you do it? Do you test each scent?
  4. I'm so sorry Kim, this business can be soooo frustrating at times. I have really considered going wickless recently but instead i'm biting the bullet and re-testing It's nerve wrecking at times.
  5. I also use a blend and my hot throw is still very good but the wax seems to be melting at a lower temperature because my melt pools are larger and I am in the process of re-testing everything. I had to shut down my site temporarily until I get at least some scents tested that I can have available. I make tarts so I will still be able to have those in all my scents but as far as the candles, I'm back at square one.
  6. That seems real reasonable! I'm in Illinois and jealous that you are in Colorado....hehe:rolleyes: I will have to call around to more places tomorrow I guess. It said on State Farm's website that they handle this but when i called a local agent, he referred me to a completely different company LOL
  7. Even though it's not supposed to be done (hehe) I have burned my candles all night long before because I know that there are some power burners out there, soooo I burn them for long periods to test for proper quality. My melt pools will reach a 1/2" tops and stay at a 1/2" for hours and hours. If my melt pool get's bigger than a 1/2", I wick down. The jars I use are wider at the top so when they are first burned, they don't melt all the way across. There's a little hang up but nothing like some of the big gaping holes i see in leading brand candles....lol The hang up, catches up and the melt pool stays where it is supposed to. Usually, at the beginning, I'll have 1/4" melt pool and once the candle burns furthur it will reach 1/2" HTH
  8. Oh really, I called them today and they said they don't handle that....hmmmmm:rolleyes2
  9. Who do you have for liability insurance?
  10. No problem, yes for a 3" diameter jar I would definitely wick up. HTH
  11. What is the diameter of your jar? I would wick up
  12. Congrats to you and welcome :smiley2:
  13. I checked the lot number on my current bag of GG and it is the same as yours vagabond. Hmmmm....mine is from candle science too. Maybe my issue isn't the GG Palm. I use a blend of palm and soy so maybe it's my soy wax that is the problem.
  14. Wow what a difference in how that wax is appearing. I'm real nervous now because I think I have this bad batch as well. Is everyone experiencing a difference with the wicking? I poured a tester yesterday and the melt pool is way too big! This is very frustrating!
  15. The reason why I am concluding that the C3 is the problem is because that is the only component that has changed in my concoction. My candles have burned so beautifully, I was finally so very happy with my concoction and have been for over a year. As soon as I started getting the c3 wax from a different distributor, these problems arose. I mix the C3 with the palm because when i was using the c3 by itself, there was soot. It wouldn't be in the jar, it was in the wax. The candle would burn beautifully, the scent would emit very nicely, but the soot would be in the wax. I tried the Eco wicks, cd wicks, and htp wicks, i would wick up, wick down and would still get a little soot either on the jar or in the wax. Once I mixed the palm wax with it, I got no soot at all. I was very impressed with that so I decided to stick with it. I also tried using the GG Palm by itself but the wax would become discolored and the scent throw wasn't as good as the C3. So basically, the c3 is great for scent throw and the Palm is wonderful for keeping it clean. That's why I use that blend. Stella, Have you ever tried the Ez Soy? Just wondering your opinion on the comparison between the 2. Also, I am very surprised you have not had to change your wicking much with the c3, my melt pools were a 1/4' with cargill's c3, now, with the same wicks they are almost a full inch. So bizarre and frustrating. Thanks for your help
  16. Stella, What do you do to prevent voids in your candles? I need to be sure that this never ever happens again. I know that you are also a C3 user, what kind of wicks do you use? Are you still happy with the C3 since 2008? Do you find it to be very inconsistent? I've been investigating that wax since this happened because it is the one major thing that has changed for me recently. Thanks for your very helpful reply too by the way
  17. I would like to get an updated opinion from everyone about these 2 waxes. I read through a thread comparing the 2 from a while ago and was just wondering how everyone feels about them now. The C3 wax is just too inconsistent for me. I just recently ran into a huge problem with it. I currently use the EZ Soy in my soap and have some on hand, so I was thinking of testing it with my palm wax for my jars. I currently use 50/50 GG Palm and C3. With this mixture, I can virtually no soot. However, i just tested my new batch of C3 and my melt pools are too big and I don't feel that the hot throw smells right. Any suggestions, opinions?
  18. I am having a problem as well. My melt pools are way too big now. I'm very frustrated and currently dealing with this. It's got me in tears and I just want to shut my business down. All the work I did, all the scents i have, now have to be re-tested? This is a money sucking pain in my @ss!
  19. When you test each new shipment of wax that you receive; are you re-testing ALL your scents? Do you also test each size jar? That sounds like it could be sooo expensive. I think the distributor I was getting the c3 wax from must of had a huge supply of it since this switch happened back in 2008. Wowza! Thank you for your replies everyone. I've been on the verge of giving up, I had my candles burning perfectly and testing with this "new" c3 wax, the melt pools are too big now. It's just got me in tears, i don't know why they couldn't just leave it alone so that it burned the same. So frustrated over this!
  20. I am really beginning to think that you guys are right about the pocket of undiluted FO. Everything else just doesn't make sense. I burned a candle today that had 2 wicks in it that were too big and i let the melt pool get over an inch and it never bursted into flames. I also burned a candle from that same batch that this candle was from, and even though it was a smaller candle, it burned just as it should. The fact that this candle was burning just fine and then all of a sudden ignited, only leaves me to the conclusion of a FO pocket. I've never had this happen before. I mix my FO's well. What is the most likely cause of a FO pocket? Just a failure of not mixing well? Is there any other factors that could come into play here? This is soooo bizarre and it's got me so worried because other people have these candles and I would be in big trouble if someone's house started on fire. I just don't get it, and it sucks but i'm going to have to start testing all over again and i'm not liking this at all. Sometimes, this business can be so discouraging. This is what I advertise on my website:
  21. I looked into doing this at one point but haven't delve into it yet. I did read though that the coffee beans can catch fire so just be careful. HTH
  22. I am thinking of just switching to the EZ Soy wax because i can get it for less and I am just sick over the difference in the c3 wax since the distributors are different now. I have a huge show in 3 wks and I don't have the time to test all 26 scents again. Ugh! This is so frustrating at times
  23. I believe it is 6% but it is under my understanding that the way this wax is manufactured is different now and so maybe it can hold 9%
