I believe I'm reading your reply correctly, you're suggesting I wick up? That seems backwards to me. The melt pools are almost perfect in some of the tests I've burned. I feel if I wick up, it will be too much. I spose it won't hurt to try. I only use 6% of FO, 1oz per pound so I don't see that being an issue, some FO's are stronger than others though and could be decreased I spose. It looks like you are using apothecary jars? Do you only use one wick or do you double wick? I also wanted to apologize for posting this with the subject line that I used. I did a lot of reading on this forum and found that many people use CD's and Ecos with this wax and so I don't want to sound like a broken record by asking the same question that has been asked before. I should have emphasized more on the mushrooming aspect. Thanks for bearing with me here

I am currently using CD wicks. With a 16oz, straight sided, 3" jelly jar, I am using a CD 10 most of the time. The wick burns great, great scent throw for many scents but am dealing with some mushrooming. Not liking that at all (I just don't trust that people will trim them). Is mushrooming just a given with soy wax? I was mixing palm and soy and never had a mushrooming problem but switched back to straight soy to keep costs down and keep it more simple. What wicks do you use? Do they mushroom?

I'm only selling due to being pregnant with my second child and not having the extra time to play with this type of wax. I had intentions on making palm candles but can't at this time. Thank you so much for your input and suggestions everyone!! Well i've finally decided on which scents to take. I believe I have covered all basis here. I included a clean, baking, fruity, spicy, and masculine scent. I went with 5 instead of 4. 1) Mistletoe (masculine) 2) Christmas Cheer (spicy) 3) Spiced Cranberry (fruity) 4) Peppermint Pine (clean) 5) Pumpkin Cheesecake (baking) Have a great weekend!

I would like to add a new scent to my line but don't like it's original name. It's called Egyptian Amber and here is the description: A complex herbal blend infused with six essential oils. Egyptian Amber has a rich base of vanilla, musk and sandalwood well balanced by lively top notes of jasmine, lavender and orange. It works equally well as a masculine or feminine fragrance, and is well suited to a high-end natural candle or soap line. Any suggestions for a new name? TIA

No, I don't wash it. If I notice dust in the glass, I blow it out before wicking the jars but I don't wash them and have never had a problem.

Happy Holidays everyone!! santa chee I am adding a new scent to my line. It's BBW Type ~ Twighlight Woods Here is the description: A sweet, romantic Bath & Body Works type. This fragrance combines the scent of ripe forest berries and soft sensual musk, with middle notes of sweet mimosa flowers and apricots, along with subtle hints of oak and juniper. Does anyone have any suggestions for renaming this scent? I am introducing it to my customers as a fresh new scent for the fresh new year. I would like to take "woods" out of the name because I feel that it is a little misleading since it doesn't smell woodsy at all. Thanks so much for your help in advance!!

Are these little guys good sellers? I think it's a cute idea but have always wondered if customers think so. Is the scent throw good? It seems like the bear would be so messy I have tons of 1oz FO Samples that I want to get creative with and get rid of. The wax dipped bears came to mind since there wouldn't be any testing involved

I called Peak yesterday and found out that there Large centering tools are not big enough for my 4" diameter jars Pooey! Does anyone know of anyone that carries them big enough for a 4" diameter jar?

I spoke too soon Candybee. I just went to Peaks site and saw their centering tools and they are not expensive at all. I had another manufacturer's product in mind. D'oh! Sorry about that. I am curious how their tool keeps your wicks tight though. In the picture from their website, it looks as if the wick is just sitting there and not pulled tightly. How does it keep them tight?

I secure my wix with 2 pencils that are rubber banded together. Maybe the wicks just aren't tight enough...hmmm. The wick centering tools seem to be soooo expensive. I make big batches, usually 32 candles, 2 scents, at one time, so it would be pricey to buy that many centering tools. When flipping...I wait 35 minutes for my 16oz candles, libbey interlude jars- 4"diameter at the top. I haven't had any air pocket problems when the candle burns down ever since i've been flipping them. Just the wick centering problem at this point. I actually see the air bubbles move to the bottom when i flip the candle......those rascals!! lol I would rather continue with the flipping method since it sure makes the production line run much smoother Thanks for your input everyone

Hi there!! For those of you who flip your palm candles to force the airbubbles to the bottom of the jar: How do you keep the wicks tight and straight? I am finding that they wind up leaning to the side a bit. So, when the candle is about half way burned down, the wicks are close to the side of the jar. Once the wax gets to about 2/3 of the way down, the wicks straighten back out. What do you do to avoid this? Also, I'm curious to see what Stella thinks of the flipping method TIA ~Christina

Hi there, I finally decided to purchase quick books to help the office side of my business run more smoothly. I didn't realize how confusing it would be to get this all set up. For those of you that use quick books, could you please send me in the right direction on how to get this set up? I used General products to describe my business: Candles and Suds Is that correct or should I change it? Also, It is almost July and I am really stuck on how to enter January through June's expenses for the business. I am not fully profitting yet so most of my expenses are being paid out of personal accounts. How do I input those? As for July through December, should I start recording my supplies into my inventory? Also, I just created a good candle inventory, should I enter that for the start of July? I am soooo lost, don't even know where to begin. If anybody could help me, I would truly appreciate it. Thank you ~Christina

Very useful information Stella!! Thank you very much. Thankfully, I don't use the term "natural" on my actual candles, only on my website. And ah shoot! I just realized it says it on my business card too. At least it's on items that are easily fixable and won't cause a lot of wondering why it changed like it would if it were on the candles. Looks like I should change some wording. It seems that all vegetable wax candle makers use the term "natural". Even one of the companies that I purchase my warning labels from have "Natural Clean Burning WAx" typed on the label and it is labeled "soy warning labels"

I would have also thought that beeswax would be the most natural, however, not trying to be the devil's advocate here but someone just pointed out to me the other day that there is no such thing as "organic" beeswax or honey because you can't control where a bee has been. The plants that they pollinate could be full of pesticides and you just never know which ones they have come in contact with. Interesting...yet frustrating. I guess "all natural" is very hard to achieve with a candle. I get a little irritated at the candle companies that advertise "all natural". As a matter of fact, I saw a candle company in a corporate store not too long ago that had "all natural" written all over their candles. What a shame . The scents were clearly synthetic and the coloring was not all natural either. I label my candles as "natural wax" candles since I use vegetable waxes. I am honest when people ask if they are ALL natural.

I purchase my GG Palm wax from peak and it has recently changed. It's not powdery and flakey anymore, it is beady now. As far as the scent throw and wicking goes, it has all stayed the same. However, I am getting cavities and air holes galore. Is anyone else out there experiencing this?

Yes, I received the Britz GG Wax as well from my supplier. Freaked me out when I got it because it looked different I was bummed! I called my supplier and they gave me the scoop so to be safe, I tested it. I am a bit disappointed because it is not setting up the same for me either. I am getting cavities and air bubbles like crazy. Is anyone else experiencing this or am I only experiencing it becuz I was used to not having to wreck the wicks with the container wax before. Now, I am wrecking the wicks and it is helping but not necessarily providing consistency because one of my customers burned a candle the other day and it tunneled

I'm a little confused here and was wondering if you guys could help me out. I went to the secretary of state's website for my state: IL and there are different types of LLC's. Which one do I want to apply for? LC Assumed Name Adoption, > LLC Articles of Amendment, > Corp Articles of Incorporation, > Low-Profit LLC I already have a business certificate as well for my county. Do I need to re-submit that with the LLC? Thanks for you help
