  1. I used to receive my C3 wax from a distributor in Madison WI, and the wax was manufactured by Cargill in MN. Unfortunately my distributor shut down and I am no longer receiving my wax from them. Now, I receive wax from a different distributor and the company that makes this wax is "elevance". My question is: have any of you experienced differences between these 2 waxes? I just had an incident where someone's candle started on fire and i'm beginning to think that the wicks i had in the candle were too big because the c3 wax is burning differently since it is manufactured by a different company. Is anyone else aware of this or have info to help me out with this?
  2. Thank you chuck, I am doing my best to investigate this. I was receiving my c3 wax from a distributor in Madison and they closed so now i am receiving it from a different distributor and it is a different company that makes it. I'm wondering if the wax is different and i'm going to have to go through the testing phase of all my scents again Some days, giving up on candle making seems so much more easier than dealing with a lot of the issues that arise
  3. I just talked to my aunt. She has 2nd and 3rd degree burns They picture messaged me what the jar looked like: I asked her how the candle looked when she first burned it and she said just fine and then i asked her how it looked this morning when she looked at it and she said the wax melt pool was less than an inch thick. How does it just catch on fire like that? I'm so appalled and so discouraged. This really makes me want to go to all wickless or something. I've just recently sold candles to other people and i'm burning candles at home and not having this problem at all.
  4. Thank you so much for your input, Judy. I agree that it shouldn't have been burning that long, they had other candles in the house that they were burning that long too and this didn't happen with them. I suggested that maybe something flew into the flame or something and they said no, they suggested that it seems like there is something wrong with the wax and that doesn't make sense to me at all and i tried to explain to them that the same wAx is used in all my candles. Of course, they don't understand the whole process of making candles though either and I really don't think they have any idea how stressed out i am right now over this.
  5. I am soooo stressed out right now and so blown away. I have been making candles for over 3 years now and have come a long long way. I have spent so many hours testing and over a year ago, I finally came up with a concoction i am sooo happy with. I've been using that same concoction ever since. My candles burn even and very clean, once they burn all the way down there is absolutely no soot on the jar. I use a blend of C3 soy and glass glow palm wax. My uncle just bought a number of fall candles from me. One of the scents he bought was the Harvest type scent. Anyways, it was a 16oz libbey interlude jar that I use 2 CD 7 wicks in. I have tested this scent and sold this scent and have never had a problem. It is, in fact, one of my most popular scents. I just received a phone call from my uncle stating that they were burning this candle and it just "burst into a huge flame" My aunt then grabbed the candle and took it outside because she was scared that it was going to burn her house down. After the panic, my uncle then proceeds to tell me that he had it burning all night. I told him that is not a good idea and i definitely don't recommend people burn there candles for that long. However, I have burned my candles all night and all day just to test them because I know that people forget about them, my melt pool stays the same after many hours of burning and I've never had an issue. They told me the jar is completely charred and everything around where the candle is is black. They said it started on fire. I was also just informed that my aunt went to the hospital because she burned herself when she picked up the jar and hot wax got on her hands and arm. I am sooo flabber gasted, just in tears. I was just getting ready to make a ton of candles today to prepare for a show that I am in very soon. I'm so discouraged now and so confused, I just don't understand how this could have happened. Does anyone have ANY suggestions or questions to help me out here?
  6. I soak the beads with the FO and they are usually dry within 24 hours. How long do your beads take to soak up the FO? Also, do you melt yours a lot, or how long do you bake them for? I haven't done it yet but I want to melt mine so they are more smooth and not bumpy, but the ones i've already made are not like that and i'm just not happy with the throw. I also use the kraft bags with the aroma beads for air fresheners and they are very strong so i'm not sure why the ornies are not.
  7. I have never done anything like this but my suggestion would be to use clear hot gun glue and tack the embeds to the side of the jar before pooring your wax in. Hope that helped a little
  8. Hello fellow creators I have a question regarding the aroma ornies. I have been making some and testing them and unfortunately, I don't seem to be getting a scent throw that I am happy with. I was wondering, does anyone ever add scent after they melt the aroma beads? Or maybe even during the melting process? ARe you able to refresh the ornie with FO after the scent fades? I was thinking of trying to either spray the scent on the finished ornie or use an eyedropper to drop FO on the finished product. Any suggestions? :undecided TIA
  9. I contacted Lone star and there is nothing they can do to help. I'm going to go cry now
  10. I'm searching for a good quality wood wick that will crackle well. I'm so bummed because I had a good quality wood wick candle and now they have decided to supposedly improve the wood wicks on the market but they just don't crackle like the old ones. Can anyone help me with this? Click this link to see how my old woodwicks burned. Turn up your volume, they were so nice. http://christinacandles.com/WoodWick_Candles.html Any direction, help, is greatly appreciated!
  11. Hi everyone! Just when I got my scents tested in lone star's wood wicks they went and changed them on me to supposable "new and improved" wood wicks. (so frustrating ) I use a soy/palm container blend that i concoct myself and with the new wood wicks, I am not getting a good crackle. They burn great but not much sound. Lone Star's old wood wicks were so nice and crackled so well. Is anyone else having this problem?
  12. I spent a good 2 hours yesterday searching this board on everything that was said about the diffusers. I was looking to see if anyone else was having this problem and I really didn't find any solutions. I know everyone uses different bases but is everyone really happy with their diffusers? Do any of you walk in the room your diffuser is in and think wow! that smells great? Just like a candle? If so, please let me know what you are using because I just can't seem to get that out of any concoction
  13. Thank you kindly for your reply and I am sorry I get a little ansy sometimes. I've just been so frustrated over this. Thanks again!
  14. Hello, my name is Christina and I'm addicted to making things such as candles, soap, air fresheners, etc...hehe:)
  15. Personally, I do the best I can in staying away from scents and wax that need to cure for a long time before there is a good hot throw. I have high standards when it comes to scent throw. I personally blend my own wax of 50/50 of soy and palm container wax. I have found that C3 has the absolute best hot throw and by blending it with the palm wax I get absolutely no soot at all. That's my solution and personal concoction. HTH :smiley2:
  16. I get mine from here http://www.thecandlemakersstore.com/..._Additive.html
  17. Hi fellow entrepreneurs! I was wondering if you could please help me. I am really frustrated at this point. I have been testing reed diffusers and I am just not happy with my results. Here's the thing: I had bought a $7 diffuser from Kmart like 2 years ago and that little thing threw better scent than the ones i've been testing. I have tried multiple bases: Peak, BCN, Nature's Garden, and recently Candle Science. I have tested the following scents just recently in Candle Science's base: Pomegranate (BCN), Pearberry (CS), Sweet Pea (CS), a mix of my own scents from BCN, Strawberry Jam(BCN), Sunwashed Linen(CS) and Cranberry Marmalade (CS)- this is the only one that is throwing well. I have high standards, I want to be able to smell the scents really well, as will my customers. I cannot be beat out by a $7 diffuser from Kmart. If i'm going to charge $15-$20 for these, they have to be good. Can someone please help me? Direct me on an excellent base or what I need to do to get the throw of a candle with my diffusers? Or is it just not possible? My 5oz candles throw better than these diffusers I am using Rattan reeds and have changed the amount of FO between 20 and 50% I just don't know what else to do:confused:, I am at wits end with this. Please, anyone, help
  18. Good Afternoon! I searched the "FO's for Soy" thread to find a fresh coffee scent oil suggestion and did not see one on there. Does anyone have a suggestion for me? It's hard getting this one right because i had a fresh coffee scent in the past that smelled like an ash tray to some people. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  19. Same here, I wish my experience was as good as yours.
  20. I have been using the C3 for a couple years now. I started making candles with the C1 but switched to the C3 shortly after. I recently purchased the 464 because I read good things about it and wanted to give it a try. I have been very dissapointed with the HT in the 464. With the C3, i got a much better HT, IMO. So I will probably be sticking with it. However, the 464 pours very nice and looks very nice. The C3 can be much more tricky as far as the looks of it. I get sink holes after pouring and it gets frosty. Those things can be fixed or worked on and I've never had any complaints about the frosting. Alot of candles are used up before the frosting even occurs. Scent throw is more important to me than looks. I offer stand alone palm wax candles for people who want good-looking candles and soy wax container candles for those who want candles that will smell up their home. With the C3, I have found that the CD wicks work best. HTH
  21. Yeah the curing part does bite! I don't like that either. I try to stick with scents that don't require too much cure time. And I'm with you Debra, I would love to get an inventory going. It would make a lot of things easier for me. Even the scents that don't require much cure time, it is just nice to have them on hand when someone wants a few
  22. I totally agree. I would rather use a wax that only needs 1oz of FO per lb for good scent throw and would rather stick with soy wax rather than a parasoy blend. But that's just me Thanks for all your help you guys
  23. I would also have to agree that you got a bad batch. I get my stickums from BCN and have never had a problem. I was reading that they(bcn) got a bad batch but corrected the problem. I was using a hot glue gun before the stickums and had a huge problem with the wicks sliding. I have never had that problem with the stickums. HTH
