  1. I have requests for the warmers when we go to shows, but I checked with levine gifts and I am not sure if they will sell after I have to mark them up. For those of you who carry these types, what are your resell prices (if I may ask this)? For example: The Ceramic warming pad is $7.25 (my cost, not including S & H) The cachepot warmer is $10.00 (my cost, not including S & H) The single burners that use a tealight are $3.50-4.50 each The electric burners run $8.25-9.25 I know for wholesale we are supposed to multiply x2 and for retail x3. I don't think if I do that people will buy these at craft shows. I know they range from $10-25 in stores, right? I just don't think people will pay $7.00-20.00 for these items, but maybe I am wrong.
  2. I sold 4 baskets this week. 2 for donations to school fall festivals and 2 birthday gifts. That is not too bad, or at least I don't think so. I have had several people tell me that are going to be contacting me for xmas baskets. I think it will be good. Christmas is a time of giving. I hope we all ahve high sales and do well at the craft shows.
  3. Tara I pm'd you yesterday. I had a questions. Thanks
  4. We did a show 2 weeks ago and I learned that I did not take near enough of some scents. I also learned that I cannot please everyone all the time. We ran out of Fudge Brownie, Mulled Cider, Hot Apple Pie, Downy, Honeysuckle and if there is anything else I can't remember. Normally I run out of Love Spell, but not this time. We sold a little bit of everything. I was very disappointed that we sold no tins and only 2--16 keepsake jars. We sold either 8oz, 16oz jars and melts. No candle shades either. Every show is different you never know what to expect. Eb is right take whatever you can fit in your car. We have a truck and car and I use the truck for shows and I put tables and some candles in plastic bins (in case of rain) in the bed of the truck and the extended cab part crammed to the top with boxes. If I can ever stop buying candle supplies and save my money I would like to invest in a top that has the hinges then I wouldn't have to worry about the rain . Until then I will make do with what I have. Good luck to you.
  5. I use the CD wicks and I prefer them over any other for my container candles. They do curl, but it is better than the mushroom on top...I hate that. I give a burn times and tips sheet with every order and I stress to people how important it is to trim the wick. I will agree with Fern I have never seen a self trimming wick. If one is developed someday I would be glad to try it. HTH.
  6. I currently carry 6oz tins with my jar candles and I cannot give them away. Well, you know what I mean. We did a show 2 weeks ago and not one of them sold. My mother, her friend and me seem to be the only ones that buy them. I love them. I put one in a basket that I gave to dtr's school for fall festival to be auctioned off just to see one go. Am I making the wrong size? I thought maybe I should switch to 4oz and 8oz or something. What sizes do you sell?
  7. I need to list some things on there. I have some things that I do not need, but I have never listed. Do most of you offer paypal only or mostly money orders? That is the story of my life. I want to order from 2 different companies, one is baskets and one is candle accessories. One has a 150 rrequired for 1st order and the other 125. If I have money like that to spend I am always having to buy more FO's, jars and wax.
  8. I have had a wholesale account customer request Wild Lily/Lillies. She uses it in some bath and body products she gets or something. She want me to see if I can make a candle in it, but I can't find anyone who sells that oil. I don't even know what the smell of it would be. I tried Lily of the Valley and that was not it, she said.
  9. I looked at their site. The basic 8 set does include one each of 8 colors, right? Also, how much color does a person add to lotions, getls, etc. I have only worked with candles, but am going to try and make b/b items.
  10. WOW!!! that seems easier than pie. Thanks. I am ordering Wednesday (Payday YYYIIIPPEE) so I can't wait to try it. Thanks again.
  11. I read on BC site the instructions for making lotion and it says to add 1/2 to 1 oz of FO per gallon. How in the world do I break down that gallon if I want to make more than once scent per gallon. I have never made any before and it will all need to be tested. I don't want to make a whole gallon of one scent and then not be happy with it. I am totally lost on how to configure that. I am going to order some of the 2oz tubes to give out to my already candle customers and family to test. I would like to have at least 4-5 different scents. So if anyone knows how to make me understand this, I will gladly try and learn. I am no good at math. Hubby usually helps, but I think this may be out of his league. If I have not explanied this correctly someone can definately chime in and correct me.
  12. I am wanting to learn to make body lotion, shower gel, body spray and bubble bath, so do I have to have an expiration date also? :undecided She did list ingredients. Don't mind my spelling. Water, grapeseed oil, emulsifying wax NF, sunflower oil, stearic acid, mango butter, glycerin, jojoba oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, dimethicone, perservative big word in (), fragrance.
  13. I already have some clear packing tape. Will try that. Where do you get the polyurethane spray? (not sure how to spell)
  14. I bought some vanilla black raspberry buttercream from a lady at a craft show I attended last weekend and when I got it home got to reading on the label it said discard after expiration date. It was 2/06. I have bought from Bath & Body Works, Avon, etc. and none of their products had an expiration date that I knew of. Is this really true?
  15. I am looking into adding b/b to my candle line. I know that there is probably a thread here somewhere one this, but when I do searches I come up with nothing. I want to know what type of ink I have to use and what type of label that won't mess up in water. I have an inkjet printer and currently print my own labels and would like to do that for the b/b also. Any help is greatly appreciated. TIA...Amy
  16. I am currently only a candlemaker and have thought about adding a b & b line someday. I have no clue as to where to start. Is there a website that offers step by step instructions or are there posts here or in archives for this. I have browsed through some of the packaging and a few of the ingredients, but am not sure where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any links would be awesome. TIA....Amy
  17. I had to buy some from the local office max when I was out. They were more expensive than Sam's, but you have to have them. I agree with the paper sandwich bags at walmart. I buy those everytime I make a trip to walmart. They are great for wax melts and the 8oz jelly jars or tins. I have only purchased the ones with handles from the dollar tree and they are expensize. I am going to start only using the tshirt bags from sams. Good luck to you!!!
  18. I need to delete one of these...pc messed up and I thought it didn't post. How can I delete one of them?
  19. I spoke with the company that I currently order my wax from and told her I read here that if I added J223 to 1275 (what I currently use) that I would get a better hot throw. She told me that the softer the wax the better the hot throw. Is this true? I used to buy HI candles before I started making them and there wax is not soft and I always thought they smelled good. If I decide to switch to a harder wax what would be good?
  20. As posted below, I have been trying to learn to make soy. I made some last week and they seemed fine, burned clean and all the way around, had great hot throw. The extras I had, I opened 2 days later and there is oil (FO) on the top. What happened? I am using Homegrown Soy Container Blend from At Wix End. I also would like for the tops to be smoother. Maybe I need to be using a different brand of soy.
  21. It is Homegrown Blend SOYCB from at Wix End is all that it states. It says to melt at 200 degrees, add color, blend. Add fragrance oil and stir. Add to container and let cool. I have been pouring at 180, not 200. It is pure liquid no slush when I pour. I have always poured 1275(vegetable/paraffin blend) and it is liquid when I pour. It dries within 1-2 hours per candle. It has been 2-3 for the soy and they are not completely hard yet. Sorry for confusing post...I meant that I am wanting to add a line of soy besides the paraffin wax line that I already have..... I guess it will just take awhile from what I have read. Do I need to pour slushy????
  22. I received my first order for soy container blend and of course I am already pouring and wanting to test. I have been using 1275 in containers and am wanting to add soy...anyway.. Here's my ? I poured cotton blossom in an 8oz Jelly Jar and then 10-15 minutes later I poured hot apple pie with 1275. The 1275 is already starting to cool and harden. The soy is still liquified, what is the deal. Will it ever harden??? I know that it will, but it seems so weird.
  23. I am located in KY and there is a weekend show at Land Between the Lakes. I am going. Booth fee is $100 and I'm staying 1 night. I better make some sales. I am worried that the jump in gas prices is going to keep people away. Supposed to be a big show, so I hope people are ready to shop for Christmas. Weather is supposed to be nice here. I ordered my fall and winter scents yesterday can't wait to start those. Also ordered 5lb of soy to test. Going to add this to my line when I get it all figured out. I have had lots of request for it at shows. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
