  1. I've seen OT referenced a lot, but not sure if it was primarily for soaping. I am wondering if anyone has tried their FO's in wax, how they performed, and if anyone has suggestions. Lisa
  2. Nope, I said it too. Although I have purchased scents that I didn't like but sounded good, I still like a decription. I know he's just getting back in the business, but I think it would help his sales if he would add the decriptions. I want to know about "snow flurry" and "mardi gras" too. A lot of interesting titles, too bad.
  3. Thanks for the tips ladies. I will start off using sparingly.
  4. Debra, When you say, "it has a lot to do with temp.", could you please elaborate? Do you mean pouring temp. or the temp. at which you add the FO? I could use a few pointers. I heat the wax to about 175, then remove from heat and add fragrance oil, stir for 2 minutes, let sit until about 140 to 150 degrees, stir again, then pour. Maybe I am doing this wrong and that is why I don't always get a good scent throw. I'm using quality fragrance oils, usually at 1.5 oz. per pound. Thanks, Lisa
  5. Okay, this is probably a stupid question, but I'm new at this. So far, I've only made candles without any dye. I like the look of a natural candle, but it's getting a little boring. I thought I would add some liquid dye. How much does adding a little dye affect the wicking, ie. will I need to wick up? Do some colors wick easier than others. Which supplier's dye do you favor. Sorry for the multiple questions. TIA Lisa
  6. I've been experimenting with 464. I think it's a great wax and makes a nice looking candle. I don't add any dye to mine. I've tested FT's, HTP's, Eco's and CD wicks. To me, the CD's always smell burnt. I've had the best luck with the Eco wicks, but still not 100% happy with the results. I think I will try the Performa wicks. Was wondering where I could find these. Thanks Jeana.
  7. Wow, it makes me wonder how these burn. I didn't give wick clogging a thought. Can't tell I'm new at this, lol. I don't make votives yet, maybe I'll give them a try. They sure do add some eye appeal, at least to me. I've purchased soy candles from a fundraiser that were sprinkled with glitter. I'm not much of a glitter fan, but they burned great. I like the look of the spices and vanilla beans, etc... more.
  8. I found the roll on thing from Etsy.com. It's a product by BathLife. Not sure if this is a fragrance formulted just for them. I read the description and it sounds divine. I may just order a roll on. Still searching for the FO cause' now I'm curious. Lisa
  9. I read a post from 2006 where some people couldn't get this FO to throw for them. I've been looking for a rum raisin scent everywhere and this is the closest I can find. For those of you who have tried it in wax, how did it do for you? I will be using paraffin, either 4627 or J50. Any other rum raisins out there? Thanks, Lisa
  10. Hey, thanks for the info. I didn't know that. It's definitely worth checking out.
  11. You're so right, it's just a smell. But I've always been a scent freak, at least for good scents. I just started a few months ago, and I'm already addicted. There's only a few hundred more that I want to try, lol. So all of you Foho's, how many of them do you dislike? I have a little stash already of "didn't care fors."
  12. Teri, Not sure what a co-op is. I can't even access that part of this site. So you supplied SOS (Save on Scents) with a sample to duplicate that came from IFT. Sorry for the confusion, but did you have IFT formulate the scent for you? Have you ever tried it from SOS? Thanks, Lisa
  13. Can't wait for the 2 oz samples! There are a lot of scents I want to try, great prices too. Sure hope it stays that way. The only thing I didn't care for on the site was the lack of description for many of the fragrances. Not sure why, but I like a detailed description. Hopefully he is working on this.
  14. Jamie, This wax sounds interesting. Yeah, sure hope it doesn't take more than 8 or 10 percent to get a good throw. I wish there was a supplier close to me to save on shipping. Plus it would be fun to browse the store for all of the goodies. Can't wait to hear how the testing goes, especially with the woodwicks Good Luck:)
  15. Thanks for all of the info. I have a bunch of HTP's if I decide to try the 4627. What % of FO are you using? I'm also a little afraid of the messy part that people talk about. What are the dimensions of the Balmoral jar? I didn't see them listed on Fairway's site. I want to see how thay compare to the Bean Pot by Libbey. I have a few to start testing. Sorry for all of the questions, TA. Lisa
  16. Saundra, What kind of wicks are you using? I was thinking of starting with LX's or zincs. I've tried 6006, and 4630 as well as a few soy waxes. I just couldn't get the scent throw I was looking for. I'm a nub too, so I think a lot of my problem with throw is in my wicking, although I've tested many. Thanks for the feedback! Lisa
  17. Joanncat, which wax did you decide to go with? I've been tossing a coin for the last couple of weeks trying to decide between J50 and 4627. Have you done any testing yet?
  18. Thanks ladies. Can't wait to hear how the testing goes. Keep me posted.
  19. Just wondering if anyone has tried Lonestar's wood wicks? If so what did you think of them and what wax did you use them in? Thanks, Lisa
  20. Thank you for sharing your results. I have been searching for a Bendel Vanilla Bean Dupe for sometime and was wondering how this one turned out. I am a beginner at candle making. I do appreciate and value the opinions and experience shared by others on this board. Isn't that what it's all about? If you ever find a good one, let me know.
  21. Hi everyone, My friend's favorite candle scent of all time is Gold Canyon's Ginger Lime. I see that Daystar has a couple as well as Elements (used to be Flickers?) Has anyone tried them or can recommend a good one? Thanks a bunch, Lisa
  22. I am a Henri Bendel addict. I LOVE every fragrance he has, especially Vanilla Bean. I ordered sniffie samples in every Bendel scent from Save on Scents and they were ALL dead on. I was amazed. The Vanilla Bean was a perfect dupe. Not sure what your application is, but I think they would be great in bath and body products. I only make candles. For their sniffies, they send small vials of their extreme concentrate. I poured the sniffie sample into a smidge of hot wax and couldn't smell a thing. I was bummed. Sure it's not a true test, but I figured I would be able to smell something. I haven't decided to order yet despite the fact that they are as close to the real thing as you can get. Check out the prices for the extreme concentrate... If you're making candles and decide to order, let me know how they work in wax, I'd love to know. P.S. If anyone knows who has Vanilla Woods, Firewood, or Quince Henri Bendel dupes, please share. Thanks:)
