  1. I started out with a kit from Natures Garden, it came with Joy wax. That was 4 years ago. I personally like paraffin. I do some items in soy but my main wax for jars is J223 and votives is straight paraffin. And after all this time I still use my good ol coffee cans for pour pots. They serve the purpose and I get them for nothing. I just bent a spout on one side and wahlaa. I also have 4 presto pots from Walmart. The only complaint I have about them is the fact that depending upon how often you use them (wear and tear) they start to short out after a while. Probably about 6 months to a year and that's using them every weekend and some nights during the week. Like any appliance, they eventually crap out. But I would highly recommend a presto pot. You can find them in aisle at walmart with the skillets, toasters and all that stuff. Just take your time and don't feel that you need to rush into this! There is alot to learn about!
  2. yep, the sand paper usually works really well. Now granted they are still sharp, but not as sharp. We rub the paper on them vertically instead of horizontally if that makes any sense. That way it's not cutting the sandpaper and defeating the purpose. HTH!!!
  3. Cool, hope everything works out for you! Make sure to post before and after pics. We want to see them all!!
  4. We always use a few pieces of sandpaper for metal and try to smooth the edges down (but be very careful about it!) before we even think about using them. this takes away some of the sharpness.
  5. wow...I think I need a cigarette now:wink2:
  6. that is crap, I would file a complaint too. My shopping cart goes based on weight, but what ends up happening on my end when I ship out the shipping ends up being more than what the cart says. I never charge the difference I just eat it. Am I loosing money, well yeah, but it's better than po'd customers IMO. Its on my end, it shouldn't affect the original sale. They should reimburse you the difference at least 5 bucks anyway.
  7. I'm not really sure what the problem can be. Is your heart into it anymore? If your not into what your doing your subconcious can make you do funny things.
  8. I like this one too!! It looks soooooo good!
  9. Yeah, I agree, I would def. not give her any supplier information! I made that mistake once and will never do it again! I've had people at craft shows ask me similar ?'s, everyone thinks it's sooo easy. Just reply back that she can find alot of information on the internet if she just takes the time to research.
  10. It sounds catchy, just make sure it's not taken already!
  11. Note sure if anyone has given you info on this yet or not, but I make these for my air fresheners. It depends on what size cello bag (width) your using. If you have Microsoft Word or Avery Design Pro all you need to do is make a text box (and watch the measurements at the bottom of the screen) the width and height that you need. Make sure to measure for the fold too. Like front and back but even, hope that make sense. your going to fold the whole thing in half, so if you want something that is going to be 2inches high when on your bag you need to make it 4 inches when you print it. You can print your design or whatever in the text box you make but make sure to put it at the bottom of the text box. When you fold it, if it's at the top it'll be on the back side. I really hope this helps you. It's how I make mine. :highfive: Edited to say as far as cardboard box bottoms in bags, all we do is find some white cardboard boxes and measure the square we need and cut from that. Saves money and looks nice. HTH!
  12. This is taken off of an ebay store selling soy candles- they are claiming and I quote : No claims here just facts: I use 100% ALL NATURAL SOY - Vegetable Wax or Soy/Wax blends and the strongest undiluted premium quality fragrances available on the market...I DO NOT USE ZINC CORE WICKS because ALL ZINC CORE WICKS contain small amounts of LEAD and produce black thick soot that contribute to indoor pollution so when you buy one of my candles you can rest assure that you and your family won't be breathing ANY LEAD AT ALL. Now last time I checked (and I use zinc just like many others here) zinc does not contain the word lead. Unless I'm retarded or something? Can someone please help here? This isn't true right? It's just a marketing ploy?
  13. Yay!!!! Congrats that's awesome news!!! Make sure to Post pics as your making progress!!! We all want to see them!
  14. We heat our jars in the oven on a cookie sheet around 170. We use J223 for containers and if we didn't heat our jars they wouldn't crack, but we also would get those nasty jump lines and "frost". Believe me I have tried it already. It ALL depends on what wax you are using.
  15. I always order Christmas chocolate tins from Hershey's and send them. Depends on how large and how frequent their orders are to determine the size of the tin/gift. JMO
  16. I throw mine in the oven on a cookie sheet on low (around 170), it takes a couple of hours but they do eventually melt or to the point where there's a ball of wax left in the middle of the jar small enough that it will pass through the neck to pour it out. HTH!!
  17. I can't help you with your question, but I wanted to say congrats!
  18. If you don't have access to print out any pictures (even from your website) then I guess short of taking polaroid pictures or having them developed at 1 hour photo, would be to give them your website. If you just need to show them product itself and not displays or you actually making the product then I guess that would have to suffice. I'm not really sure what to tell you other than that. did they give you any guidlines at all? usually they like to see 2-3 photo's, they should have given you a guidlines/rules sheet or something.
  19. I don't carry wintergreen scent, but I would think it's not a very strong scent like peppermint is. I wouldn't be able to tell you though because I 've never poured it.
