1. I'm going to be picking it up. The only thing with the CB-Adv is the throw both or hot. I'm wonder what additives would help improve that.
2. Usually FO are cut with DPG - Di-Propylene Glycol. It's colorless and has a slight alcohol scent. I only cut the oils I sell for oil warmers. DPG is a must have for incense making. A really good Bayberry is hard enough to find. I wouldn't recommend eBay.
3. It smells like a Catholic Church during mass. LOL but that's what it really smells like.
4. I don't discredit that. The wick thing is still a work in progress. The diameter is 3-1/8 inch. The melt pool so far has spread out that quickly all of the re-burns in the past few nights but the jars aren't overly hot. Last night was the first time I observed any mushrooming in my wicks. What I have also observed is that with all the other waxes the wick burns down into the wax a little bit before it starts spreading out. With the CB-Adv the the wick pool sort of spreads out evenly to the side of the container. It's also softer when cool, I think it probably has a lower MP that the Cargills.
5. For those who shrink wrap I'm interested in doing a co-op for votive shrink wrap. Not that I'm advertising. But HeavenScentU asked if the heat guns would melt the soy candles. How do you prevent your soy candles from melting when you shrink wrap? TIA, Jacqui
6. Can you believe it? Went to Wally-mart and they were sold out of LouAnn Coconut Oil. I wonder if this thread had anything to do with it? LOL
7. Donita and Manolis (Handmade) Their ineffable talent has left such an impression on me.
8. Check under the Standard Liquid scents (not the Ultimate). It's there.
9. Chamomile is a pricey EO. Does any know of a good synthetic (FO) dupe? I haven't been able to find one.
10. Okay I couldn't wait another day to burn these suckers. EcoSoya Advanced hands down winner. I will playing A LOT more with this one in the very near future. After the set up Both the C-1 and C-3 pulled from the containers leaving wet spot on practically half the jars. No wet spots what-so-ever on both the Ecosoya Advanced and Pure Soy containers. The 135 spotted a little. 1st Burn - 2 hours The Advanced soy was the 1st to form full even meltpool with the first 30 minutes. Some of the others didn't even make it all the way in 2 hours. Also in the Advanced I tried a hemp wick and a Wick-it premier wick. Both these wicks mushroomed like crazy in the 135. Absolutely no mushrooming in the Advanced. That really impressed me. Need to see if that keeps up in the re-burns. The C-3 had a lot of air pockets and bubbles surfaced. Best scent throw was the C-1. Keep in mind none of these were cured properly and the c-1 had the only SOS FO that was in the ultra concentrate. Otherwise in the rest I used some free SOS samples. I'm not really concerned about the throws. I just wanted to test the consistancy of these waxes before purchasing in larger quantities. Overall I found testing these 1lb samples extremely helpful with out feeling like I wasted money on a lot of left over wax I didn't particullary care for. Like with the Soy-125. Live and Learn. Now on to the pillar wax! Cheers, J
11. Toffe Apple Cinnamon and the Red Apple Peal sound great for the season. I get a Mac Apple from SOS that I really love. The Sand and Sea Spray sounds really good. I don't currently have any ocean scents.
12. Candlewic is offering a free pound of FO with a $75 purchase. I was planning on ordering some wicks and want to take advantage of this offer. I don't normally use their oils. I need one that works well in soy. Looks like you can choose from their standard and ultimate line. Any recommendations? TIA, Jacqui
13. Well I've been working in overdrive today. I've test drived the following soy waxes with no additives: C-1 C-3 EcoSoya 135 EcoSoya Pure Soy EcoSoya Advanced From just the pour C-3 was the winner. Other than just slight cracking around the wick - and I mean very slight - the tops are completely smooth and creamy. I wouldn't even have to heat gun these suckers. Ecosoya Advanced came in a close second.I love the lush apperance of this wax. A little sinkage and nippling of the wicks. It seems to have a better cold throw than the C-3 but that could be because I may have added a little more FO. In 3rd place I'd say the pure soy, then the 135 and c-1. The C-1 cracked the most. My opinions may change after the test burns. Which I'll conduct on Monday, giving them some time to set up. I love these status jar I got. Easy to test burn. I already started testing the 135 (I poured Thursday) and they burn down nice and even with both wicks I tried in them. I'm not so overly concerned with the wick situation until I narrow down the waxes. Also 1lb pours perfectly into two. I didn't sample the 415 or 444. I'm kinda of regretting that but then again I'm out of containers. I am concerned with some of the consistancy problems other members have had with the c-3. I'm wondering if Advanced users have had any problems with it's consistancy as well. Cheers, Jacqui
14. It's looks like an affliate program. Basically you create your own domain and advertise it on the web. They set up the site and you get a cut of whatever sells. Discount joke. More like craft store prices. I saw their polyurethane rose floater mold. Wholesale $54 a piece! I got the same ones for less than $20. For novices. Doubt many people here would use them.
15. Check this one out. That's one heck of a citronella candle. Can any one say campfire in a can.
16. http://www.kerzenkiste.de/start.php?candle_center_riesenkerzen.php I was just curious as to the price of these. The fat tall one is $198 EUR which is about $280. Although I can't read German I doubt very much that it is scented. The dimension is 1000X240mm which is aprox 3 feet tall with 9 inch diameter. It's about as big as my daughter. Probably weighs about the same too.
17. I just searched the net to see if I could actually find someone who sold candles that big. These are from a German candle mfgr. I can't even imagine how they wicked those suckers. I think a single thick rope would cast too large a flame. Not something I'd want burning in my living room. Then again I don't think I'd trust it period.
18. I sell retail and I've gotten permission from one of my wholesale suppliers to use their pics as long as it was to sell products from them. It's not neccessarily stolen.
19. Just made a soy candle test batch of this Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin (BBW dupe) from SOS. Loving it!
20. Check 'em out. http://www.ihdecandles.de/html/huge_candles.html
21. What do you mean Favorite Frag? Favorite of the year, the week, the day? I mean your favorite right here and now And I know it's tempting But please try to limit it to one. This is just for fun.
22. I don't agree with putting melted wax in a jar. I agree that people like to see, smell and touch the product. Perhaps you could have tins w/clear lids or large votive holder (such as a flowerpot shape) with your finished melts inside and label them with the scent. I would leave unpackages sachets and such for people to smell as well. You could put a hang tag with the name of the scent on the sachets and hang them from ornament tree. That would give you some height to attract people to the table. Wishing you success!
23. Has anyone tried these? What do you think?
24. Thanks so much Ronnie. I got your attachment and tried it out last night. It was a BIG help. Candletech members are the best!!! I joined back in 2003 when there were less than 200 members. Now it's over 7,000 strong and I wouldn't go anywhere else for candle making advice. I love candletech!
25. Did they expain it in American Pie? I thought I saw that movie. Must be a little hazy with all I smoked back then. I never heard of MILF until Weeds. Thanks Carebear for putting me back on track.
