  1. Nice color choices too! I really love the Balmoral Jars also. I agree that wick looks like a rope! ( you do need a large wick for the width of those jars lol ) I love containers! Nice job!
  2. I have never noticed this with any FOs but I have read it several times.Do you notice it when you are adding the FO or when it is burning? Cold throw also?
  3. Whew.....I did it! I realize that it is probably no big deal to most of you but I made my very first votives last night...and much to my surprise, it wasn't that painful and was actually kind of fun. I tried two different wicks with the KY Para-Soy and amped up the FO to 1.5. I burned two this morning ( wait-schmate...I had to try them to decide on the wick )and decided on the HTP 41 instead of the LX. It burns a little hotter ( which I have always totally preferred with ANY candle ) and even though they both worked fine, I liked it the best! So......my candles are made for the Fall Swap and although they are not flawless....they are purrrrfect to me! I love them! Great burn and scent...I just hope they stay that way through the mailing process! KY- Para Soy Color- Teal 1.5 FO per LB ( I know, I have heard the arguments about using only 1oz or less ) High Maintenance ( type) FO...my VERY favorite! HTP 41 Cure time...huh? whats that? I know that a Fall scent was decided on and I think that this one is perfect! Nice warm Patchouli/Musk Base note.
  4. I am not to the part where I take the pins out yet. I am getting ready to do the repour but it seems to me that the wick will not fit perfect and there will be some space there.
  5. Anyone have a link to how to make Votives using Wick Pins? So many suppliers have them but not with the pins. Thanks
  6. Well, we might just have another one:D This is my first, and I have been "messin" with the Votives all night. I am waiting to repour and not really sure how long I should wait. From what I have read it said completely cool. They feel cool to me:)
  7. Thanks for the quick response! That was VERY helpful to me!
  8. I joined the Fall Votive swap and tonight I am attempting my FIRST votives. I have 20 votive molds and pins ready and waiting for my discoveries! I have read many instructions on " how to" and to be honest they were all different. ( and I am fine with that...will probably create my own instructions after tonight anyway:o ...owy) My question is, once I have created my masterpieces and are ready to ship, is there a special way I need to wrap/package/bag each Votive? Would it be sufficient to wrap each one in tissue paper or do I need to do something else? if anyone has ever entered a Votive swap I would appreciate you help. I have WARNED everyone to call there local Fire Departments and to keep their children and pets AWAY from the package! And BURN them???? FaaaGETaboutIt!!!!! Thanks Michael =
  9. You have tried so many different containers! I have never seen a candle in a sugar shaker. Guess I dont get out much. Seems like they would work great!
  10. I just read that the Texas Candle conference was cancelled. Lisa and I were WAY excited about going to our first conference. Does anyone know of a good one anywhere else September-November ( maybe in another State )? Thanks
  11. Looks like it has been postponed until next year. Thanks for the info Anita.
  12. YIKES...I think that they charged my credit card for the first night on two rooms already...and I just added another one LAST NIGHT( Better call and see if I can get them reversed ) THANK YOU, Anita, for letting us know! This was the first I have heard of it being cancelled. You would think that someone else could step up to the plate and help her out. The thought of an entire conference depending on one person sounds overwhelming to me! Poor thing, I feel bad for her.
  13. I really like purehenry's packaging, logo, site...the works! It looks excellent to me! Without a doubt, competitive for the look for 2005. I like simple, understated and clean! Good job!
  14. I have read that you can add mineral oil to liquid dyes when they start getting "gooey/stringy" Has anyone ever done this, and does it have any effects? How much would I add? TIA for the help
  15. I wouldnt even think about using anything but stickums. They are just great IMHO. I ran out once and whipped out the glue gun...yep, it worked just fine, but for my time, I just dont want to bother with it. I guess people that use the glue gun all the time are much more proficient with it.
  16. I would like to know about this also. Is there a difference in the amount you would use? Can they be used in 50/50 also?
  17. I like this topic ALOT because obviously it is a HUGE part of my life. Owning a Cosmetology school we teach Hair Coloring ( which, the Paul Mitchell company is HUGE in the market ) We start with the basic color wheel..on to secondary colors etc. The truth IS that everyone does see color differently and it has never ceased to amaze me. For instance there are some people that think their hair is blonde. To ME, it is as brassy as a Trumpet, but my eyes really see gold. it takes ALOT of communication and thank goodness for color swatches. Wouldnt it be cool if we had candle swatches with the exact number of drops ( for liquid dye ) per LB to achieve the exact colors? Reds and oranges are a real challenge also because people see that differently. I see Lilac very close to Periwinkle
  18. Wow..that was a learning experience for me! I have always thought that Lilac was a very pale light pastel purple and lavender was a little darker. Thanks for teaching an old dog new tricks:-)
  19. Hi dr I am a Newbie too...since December. When I got into this, I went whole hog crazy and have made literally hundreds of candles. I was a candle buying addict and had graduated to the " hard stuff".....meaning the top of the line BEST, like Diptyque, Trapp, Votivo, Red Flower, Tyler..and on and on...so I was spending ALOT of money. Now, I have to disagree with SOME of what the others are saying to you. IF you are getting into this to start and perfect a candle business, well than maybe you are in for some huge dollars to test and perfect your product. I didnt read that into what you were saying ( I could be wrong ) If you are making these for just yourself OF COURSE you will be saving TONS of money! I was delighted when I discovered what it actually cost to make an 8 oz tumber candle that I was paying 20 bucks for AND mine was better! ( yep, from the very beginning, thanks to the help of the suppliers ) I noticed that you live in Denver. One thing that I found to be very valuable was to personally go meet with the suppliers and get all the information they have available for their clients. Mine actually sit down with me and answered all my questions at the time and went over things step by step. Than, of course, you would come back and buy from Peaks
  20. I would just keep the groups together : Bakery Berries and Fruits Florals Woods Blends Of course you can blend some of these together but this is pretty much a safe bet
  21. I use Taylored 50/50 now....I have been through the Comfort Blend, J223 and 1945
  22. Your shop is getting there! I KNOW you are excited about it! How did you get your pics attached? ( not too savvy here). I have been owning my own businesses for over 30 years...so I know how excited you are....there is nothing quite like it. It is true when you work for yourself, you work much harder than you would work for anyone else BUT it is worth it. You get to assume full responsibility, and there is no one in control that could hold you back. I am proud of you and your accomplishments.
  23. They have preblends AND you can make your own. IMHO if you are going to go with a 50/50 I would try the ones that are available to you already blended first to see if you would like them. I have found that they are not more expensive and if you have a good supplier you can usually count on them being good. I just bought two cases of 50/50 to play with. My verdict is still out
