  1. I have some cdn wicks I got from scented bean. I can check tomorow to see what sizes and how many if your interested. I ned to get my thuings around here soon and post it on here and ebay for sale. I need to do a lot of cleaning out. I will get back to you in the morning on the wicks.
  2. I've never tried the 8 oz apothecary jars, but I have used 16 and 26 oz's. I double wick both of those jars with my 415 wax. Those jars are 4". If I keep the color out I can use one LX30 wick, but then it doesn't leave the sides totally clear.
  3. Thanks for all your replies. I guess I have to start trying different uv's from different company's and see if I can find one that will work. I tried changing my FO but it still gets a funky color after sitting. I have no other candles that fade or change color, so the blue must just be a hard color to keep pretty.
  4. My blueberry cobbler candles always turn green on the outside of the jars. It's definitely light related, because if I put them in a cupboard where it is dark they don't change color. I use 415 wax, I color with dye chips and I do use a uv from Keystone Candles. Can someone please offer some good advice on this? Is there a better uv than what I have? Is it something that always happens to blueberry cobbler? I would really appreciate any help, thank you.
  5. That carbon your talking about I get more on the eco's than the lx's. After my first initial burn every time I light the candle again with the eco it is hard to light and the wick is crispy. When I light my candles again the next day I have to hold the lighter on the eco's a lot longer until they light up. The lx and rrd's light up right away, but the lx seems to mushroom badly.
  6. You know a funny thing happened in my line of work. I am an escort vehicle driver. I am the one you see with an oversize load behind on interstates and in front of the load on two lane roads, it is my job to warn traffic of the oversize load and to warn the drive of the load what is approaching. I have done this since I was 18 and I am 42 now. I have escorted for mainly my husband he pulls modular homes for 20 some years now. All of a sudden NY comes in to say you can't go through the state of NY with a big load unless the escort becomes certified and complies with all the regulations in the book NY decided to write. I had to take a test which cost me $75.00. Then when I passed I had to buy a different car due to my car not having a 100" wheel base. Now I had to go buy all items they wanted to be in each escort vehicle. Items like, fire extinguisher, flares, stop sign, huge light bar for on roof, a vest with certified escort (which most of equipment was purchased from the state NY) There is more items I never mentioned, all going over $1000.00. Now you tell me who made out on this deal? NY saw a way to make money and took advantage of it. They stated it was to cut down on just anyone being able to escort a big load, and to protect other motorists on the road. Yeah right, I have been checked in DOT checks in NY 2 times in the last five years. I can go through NY up to 5 times a week. So they must not be too worried about protecting motorists. Wow, try directing traffic in NY, CT and NJ, I'm the one that needs the protection. The certification runs like your license, renew it every 4 years and pay $40.00 each time. Now VA saw what NY did and they made me take another test to become certified in VA. I have NEVER been checked for that certification. They were a little easier though. I only had to pay $30.00 for the test and every 4 years renew my certification. That is it, they didn't make us purchase a bunch of items for in the vehicle. :(So I guess you know how I feel about that idea.
  7. Oops I didn't mean lx, I meant rrd 37. :embarasse Sorry about that, I know I was thinking about what wicks I doubled in that jar and I was thinking about the lx's I tried in those jars, along with the rrd's. The biggest lx wick out there is the 30.
  8. Glad to meet you also, welcome. I have found so many great tips on here, it;s absolutely wonderful. Hope you can find this place as interesting as I have.
  9. I use double eco wick 14 in my 16 oz apoth jars with 415 wax. So far it has worked real well with me. I have used them with heavy scents and colors like home sweet home and lighter scents. I have tested those jars with many other wicks and the only other ones that worked was double lx 37 with no color, then when I added color it did'nt burn. Don't know if that helps you or not. Good luck.
  10. I totally agree with you Jane! I hate not knowing what my amount will be until the order arrives. Something I do is, open three windows on the puter and go to three sites and place an order for exactly the same items. Then before I check out I see who is giving me the best price and I go with that one. I called C&S and asked why they can't offer the shipping price before I make a purchase and they told me I had to call to get the shipping amount (every time?). The weird part is I'm in PA and it costs me more to get 10lbs of aroma beads from there than it does from gelilluminations in IA.
  11. I use two popsicle sticks rubber banded together at one end. Then I pinch the wick in the middle of both sticks and add another rubberband at the other end and it hold my wick straight and taught until the candle cools. If this is hard to understand I can add a pic I guess. Just let me know.
  12. Hey chuck that's a great idea! I agree it does have a good pour spout on it. :yay:Thanks for the tip.
  13. Thanks for the tips, geez I was worried someone would make fun of me asking that question, many thanks all.:highfive: Your way sounds so much faster and easier. What I was doing was say I'm going to fill 2- 16oz jars and 2- 8 oz jars, all same scent. I would weigh out 3 lbs of wax melt it in my presto pot. Then in my pouring pitcher I have my color in there. The in little glass measuring cups I weigh out FO. When my wax gets to themp then I pour it over into the pitcher with thermometer til it hits right temp and pour in jars. Now theres other little things I do I left out, I didn't want to get into too much detail and end up writting too much for you to read. Thanks for the shortcuts though.
  14. Okay so you put a bunch of wax in this cooker and melt it. Do you then pour out melted wax into a pitcher and add FO and color? What I'm wondering is how do you know how much is in your pitcher? When I make some candles I decide how many jars I'm going to fill then I melt that amount of wax, then pour into a pitcher add my ingredients and pour into the jars. Example if I'm pouring 4, 16oz jars I will melt 4 lbs of wax. Is this like the slow way of doing it? This might seem like a dumb question but I have been wondering this for sometime now.
  15. Thank you so much I will be doing that tomorrow. Do you use just plain 415 with nothing else in it? Don't you have bad frosting? How does the wax look in the jars is it adhering to the jar? Many thanks.
  16. I have tried adding FO as high as 175 and and as low as 150, and temps in between. I always pour at 110, if I don't pour at that temp I get major wet spots. If I pour lower than that the none of the wax adheres to the jar. To get the nicest looking candle is definitely for me that is pour at 110. I am going to pour a couple today to check the sweating. #1 I am mixing equal 415 and 444 no additives, then #2 415 with half the CO I normally add, and #3 equal amounts of 415 and 444 with my normal recipe 1/2 TBS CO and 1/4 cup ecosoya pb to 1 lb.
  17. I add 1/2 TBS of CO to 1lb of wax. Maybe I should lower the CO during the cold months? The CO definitely helps with frosting, if I don't use it I get a lot of frosting. I though of maybe mixing some 444 in with the 415 and see what happens. If I heat gun the tops when they sweat it stops the sweating, but I have to heat gun like three times before its gone. I will be doing the testers tomorrow and see what I can come up with. Thanks for your opinions and if anybody has anything to add I would love to hear it. Thanks
  18. Lately all my candles are sweating on the tops anywhere from 2-3 days after I pour them. I keep searching on here how to stop the sweating but I can't find much on it. I use 415 with CO, 1/4 cup of ecosoya pb blend and 1 oz FO to 1lb of wax. I have tried adding FO at higher temps and stirring more but it doesn't seem to help. Sometimes the sweating is that bad it puddles across the whole candle. It is getting colder here now with fall could that be it? I bought some 444 and I have 6 testers on my bar right now to test. Two of the 6 are 415 and they both are sweating. The other 4 are made with the 444 and none of them are sweating yet. Tuesday I will be burning them to test and log the results. All summer long the 415 candles didn't sweat, it just recently started that. If someone is having the same problems could you please give some advice. If someone has a fix for it please help. Thanks
  19. yep Anton I agree with you. I tried the cdns in the apothicary jars with bad results. Now I did notice I had more scent throw with the LX than the cdn. I can use a LX 30 in that jar and it burns with very little hang up. But the HT is much better with the LX, and I have asked every person that walks thru the door.
  20. You listed farmhouse as a supplier in PA but I can't seem to find them. Would happen to know their website? Or would you know any other suppliers in PA, NY, of NJ? I have looked up the suppliers by state but their wasn't any listed in the areas I chose. Plus some I did call on, they were more expensive to buy from that ordering from CS with the shipping. I deliver oversize loads on the north east coast so I am able to pick up supplies on my way.
  21. Fun flames did you add any additives to your 415 and j223? I have been using 415 for a while here and I just ordered j223 to blend with it to see if I get any better ht. If it's still the same I will stick with the 415 and write my problem off on some bad fo's.
  22. Yes the 415 has worked for me with most fos but I was looking for little boost in the ht. My 415 smells good but I thought if I blended a wax that ht is good, I could end up with GREAT! This fo that I was trying to get a throw out of is cinnamon spice. I bought 2 different bottles from 2 different suppliers, neither would throw. My tarts won't even throw. I guess I better put that scent back for air freshners instead. I was just trying to get someones opinion that has used 415 and blended with another wax to get the GREAT ht.
  23. It has been with a lot of FO's. I use fo from CS, NG and illuminations. I was noticing I had many candles lit and when I would come back up from the basement or in from outside, I didn't smell candles burning. I started asking ppl when they came in if they smell the candles, they said no. unless you hover the candles themselves. When I use hansel and gretel, 7up pound cake, cinnamon bun, I could smell them, but all the newer fall scents I wasn't smelling. So I took my strongest fo which seemed to be cinn-spice and poured 3. All same jar, same amount of fo and same color chips. I made one with cdn 16, one lx24 and then the third one I used lx24 but added fo at 185 instead of the 150. I put all 3 candles in different rooms to check the difference. All day yesterday and the day before they burned. The only way to smell them was to hover. The one that smelled the beswt up close was the one w/lx24 wick w/fo poured at 150. The one poured at 185 smelled like hot wax. I called a supplier near me and she advised me to try blending my 415 with what she is sending me igi r-9798 vicory blend and j223. I guess I am going to start blending with the victory blend in my 415 and see if I can get better HT.
  24. I just ordered Victory blend/6098/R9798 and some J223. It will be here tuesday, I hope I have better results blending this. I did try pouring in the FO at a higher temp 185 and it made no difference at all. I use 415 with 1/2 TBS pp and 1/4 cup pb votive blend and my candles looked perfect and burned great. The CT was awesome but the HT wasn't the way it should be. I have an open floor plan in a cape code home and I had 7 candles lit and didn't smell them unless I stood over top of them. There are some fragrances that did throw well but not as mant as don't so I'm going to try to do some more blending here again.
  25. Sounds like your dabbling with the same wax that I have been working with. I am having issues with my 415 wax. It just seems like I should have a hotter scent throw. I just tried the wick change same jar wax color and the only difference was the wick. One was a lx and the other was cdn. The cdn didn't have as much scent throw as the lx so last I tried adding FO at 185 instead of the 150. If this doesn't make a change I'm thinking I need to add prafin or add the 70/30 blend to the 415 and see if that works better. My candles look and burn awesome, I just think the HT should be better than what it is,
