  1. I was just like you when I started out. I bought a kit from Michael's but that was the worse thing I could have ever done. I started researching on here, and just like you every question I came here and asked. Some of the people that were here then don't seem to post as much anymore but some of them got quite rude. I never thought I would get to where the experienced Chandlers were. At first I poured a whole bunch of candles and tested them all at once, never took notes. Then I was getting mad and stopped making candles for a few months then came back. So I poured one candle at a time. Like they said, one jar. One scent. If it didn't burn right I up'd one or went down one wick. On the third try if I didn't get a good result I went to a different brand of wicks and tested those. And so on and so on. This craft is basically a trial by elimination thing. You take one step at a time and go slow. There is no rushing when it comes to candle making. Believe me, I tried.
  2. Thanks! Goin' to bed now.... poured 9 candles, cleaned up my mess, and I have to work at 3 am. Thanks everyone, you have become good friends.
  3. and I love every second of it! I literally have people coming up asking me for candles. I took orders today that will equal $83 in profit! WooHoooHooo! Most popular scents, Christmas Pine, Bayberry, Candy Cane, Gingerbread Man and Pumpkin Pie. Hey.... did I mention that I love this! I am so lucky, there is no one here locally to create competition (other than WalMart) and it's great! Does the Happy Dance!
  4. I have not called. I plan to but I work full time, have to feed the caveman and kids, and make candles. LMAO. I plan to call them on this Tuesday. But it's weird, I had some friends come over and smell my scents and one wants me to put the pumpkin pie in some candles and she'll buy them. So at least I get my money back. Somewhat.
  5. When I mix may 70/30 I do everything the same as it were 100% soy. That was my starting base anyway. I'm not adding that much paraffin but I did learn to lower my pour temp a bit. I had to change a few of my wicks as well. I think it's just a trial and error kind of thing. You should know the heat to/pour at temps for both waxes and try to find an in between or at least give yourself somewhere to start at. You can adjust as you go if your test results aren't right. HTH.
  6. Those are the only pictures of my candles I have right now, don't have much more of a choice, my camera melted and can't afford a new one just yet. House Fires are expensive.
  7. I don't think I'm going to keep the other site, the .org one. I like this one David designed better, and so do all of you! Thanks!
  8. I have used 4630 and used HTP83 in a jar that is about 2 & 1/2 inches wide. If that helps. ANd then with my pint mason jar, I use HTP104 and that one is about 3 inches. HTH. I don't normally follow the guides on suppliers sites because they don't always add up. Mainly because I think they are just a starting guide. I have always had to wick up from what the suggestions say.
  9. If I keep the site I plan to add visuals. I don't have a digital camera right now because my house burnt down. It's really expensive as it is to replace our items so I have to prioritize, a camera should arrive just in time for Santa's visit. Wink Wink. Most of my pages will have pics instead of text, that's for sure.
  10. If you are wondering why I went for the Rose theme is because a rose is both beautiful and most of the time smells awesome. I want my candles to be the same, not beautiful but decent looking and want them to smell wonderful (most tell me they do) I also plan to add a guestbook or another customer comment page if I decide to keep this site. Haven't made up my mind yet.
  11. A friend of mine put this together for me. I told him I did not want the usual "Primitive" candle website that everyone else seems to have (no offense to those that do) but I wanted something elegant. I might have him change this, and there isn't much there because it is just a tester for me for now. Anyway.... take a look. http://www.sparkys-candles.com/index.html Like the new URL?
  12. I already tried contacting the sites with the name even remotely close to mine. ONe of them was mine when I first started on a website and the URL name subscription has not run out but I am unable to point those servers at yahoo so I just have to deal until it opens back up. The other two sites do not exist but the domains are not active.
  13. the box option I have for center pager is checked. I go through yahoo to host my site, I know I know, I'm cheap. But it's there and checked. And it's centered on my monitor so I'm not sure what else I can do? Any tips? Glad the site didn't look too bright, I was worried. Thanks for everyone's replies. I am currently looking for a new place to hold my site... CHEAP. Times are hard, ya know?
  14. So because of where I put things makes it bright?
  15. What was bright? The background? Because on my computer it's not bright at all and the monitor is set on bright. I don't take it as being rude, I asked for everyone's opinion so I am taking them.
  16. and tell me whatcha think. I have worked really hard on getting the main information up. I recently had my house catch fire and pretty much everything was destroyed either by fire or smoke and water, including my digital camera, so getting pics up there is a little hard right now but I plan to. But over all what do you think. I used to have a marbled background but that looked plain to me. Especially check out my Scent of the Month page and tell me if I'm missing anything. www.sparkyscandles.org (had to take .org because believe it or not everything else was taken) I plan to change that in the future. I appreciate any and all advice. *crosses her fingers*
  17. this is my second burn on this candle. Yes it has a full melt pool and there is some hang up on the jar, the jar is not hot at all, just warm to the touch. I am not too worried on the hang up, yet. I wish my camera was working so I could show you.
  18. I am testing two candles right now with my 70/30 blend wax. Same size jar, about 2.5 inches wide. One has a CD10 the other the 51-etc.-etc. zinc wick. I am an 1.5 hours in on my burn on the zinc and just about an hour on the CD10. Already a great throw from CD10. None from zinc. But the CD10 flickers, a lot unless it is trimmed to 1/8" . It doesn't smoke, just flickers. My husband says it's not a big deal. That flickering wouldn't be important to him as long as the candle threw out scent well and didn't smoke. What about you.I know zinc burns cooler and that may be the HT problem... just curious as to what your opinion might be.
  19. I am using 4786 for my 70/30 blend and I couldn't be more happier. I'm playing with my wicking a little but as far as appearence and performance.... AWESOME!
  20. I talked to the manufacturer and they said almost the same thing Stella said. I went to parasoy instead of pure soy so I might use it later but for now it's in a box in my entertainment room.
  21. How do you do the different colors like that? I make Rustics all the time but wasn't sure how to make the colors interchange like that. I am guessing similiar to making marbles, except you pour cooler into a cold mold and don't heat gun it? ????
  22. So most of you know I switched from 100% soy to my own parasoy blend. I poured some candles this weekend. Pine, Brown Sugar Nutmeg, and Eggnog in the parasoy. I am testing them today. I know I know, it's a bit early but I was mainly testing for the wick today. I lit Pine and went about my day. Our mail man came and I went outside to get the mail, talked to him for a bit and came back in. the candle was in the back of my house in my entertainment room. When I walked back inside I could smell the candle from the front door. My neighbor came over a few minutes ago and asked "Are you burning one of those Glade candles" I had to laugh a bit (remembering the commercials) and said no, it was one of mine. It's amazing how much a little tweeking can do! Yayee!
  23. Yes they do! I invented my own 70/30 blend friday night and the candle burns great. even two days later and then scent throw is scent-sational. Ha ha. get it? Anyway... don't know why in the world I tried to go all soy. Silly me!!And guess what, the headaches are gone! (So far anyway!)
