  1. They turned out really well. The tester burned great! A little mushrooming towards the last of the wax, but not bad. But unfortunatly I can not show any pics because the guy I was living with (for ten years) has now stolen all my candles supplies and wax claiming that because we broke up that they belong to him because he paid for the majority of the costs. Yes, he did pay for them but we were a couple at the time and actually the supplies were bought under my business' name, and his name is not on my Business License. The cops say I can't take them out of the home, it's a civil matter but I think those supplies should come to me because I am the one who put the heart, soul and effort in to the candles in the first place. I want to cry because I am just so pissed! But for those of you who would like to try those coffee cups they did awesome!!!
  2. they did good. I will post a pic of the one I burned too.
  3. As most of you know I was recently told to pour my soy wax at cooler temps. I was pouring at 140 or so and frosting was my worst nightmare... couldn't seem to get rid of it unless I did my own parasoy blend, then I couldn't really advertise my candles as "soy" because they they had paraffin. Someone at a recent show suggested pouring at 100 and so far... all I have is beautiful candles with added BW which helps with the smooth tops. Not only did I get rid of the headaches and frustrations that came along with my darn candles, I got rid of an additional cost. Woohoo. Double whammie! I just poured 1/2 dozen candles. I will post pics in the morning. Night everyone!
  4. Well the coffee cup is close to 3" across and on this I tried CDN wicks and used a #10. It did really well. I am on my 3rd burn and the wick is not too big, which I thought it might be. But as I am sure you are finding out, what works me may not work for everyone. I am pretty sure the elevation and weather greatly efffects the results of your candles. When I say tweaking, I changed my temps back and forth, different additives and so on. This coffee cup candle only has vybar, beeswax and UV Stabilizer. I used to do my own 70/30 parasoy blend because of the frosting but I really liked the way this guy burned so I might stick with this formula.
  5. I get AccuSoy-10 From Swan's Candle Supply. Hated this wax when I first started making candles but after tweeking here and there it's the best that I have worked with.
  6. I was looking for something cute to do for the holidays and found these coffee cups at the Dollar store. I might dress them up a little with some sort of bow or ribbon. The burn pic is after 3 & 1/2 hours of burn time on 2nd burn. Awesome HT and CT. Opinions are welcome. The scent is Grandma's Kitchen from Cierra's Candles.
  7. It was fun up there. Didnt realize it was as big of a deal as it was. My mother and father in law, Larry and Sindi held a bizarre at the grange across from the church.
  8. Another thing soy327... i got very frustrated with this wax in the very beginning. Almost quit all together. That was 2 years ago. You will find your own grove. What works for one person may not work for another. One thing I have learned is you have to have patience and determination with this craft. Its not a fast hobby to begin with but once you get it, you get it. But sounds like you are on your way
  9. I use CD wicks with Accu 10. Some day may try CDN's but for now the CD's have been good to me.
  10. I was recently at an event on Spokane, WA (Greenbluff for any of you who know the area) and took some of my candles to sell. I make my candles with Swan's Accu-10. Normally I heat to 160, and add FO and dye but very often would get frosting. A lady up there suggested that I heat to 130, add scent and dye at 120 and pour at 100. I thought no way! Those temps are two low.... well Now I bite my tongue because those temps produce an even better candle. Every time! I guess my point is this no matter how much you think you've gotten this down, there's always room for improvment.
  11. I live in Washington too and when I first started making candles, I used this wax. It was ok at first but then I got hooked on Accu-10. I have really good results with the Accu both on it's own and as a parasoy candle. I didn't notice much of a scent throw between the Accu and the Coconut. They were about the same.
  12. I do a 50/50 with pure soy and 4630 and was having sink holes so I tweaked it a little. I heated it only to 170 and poured at 155 and had no sink holes. Will try again today. No wet spots either. FlightofFancy, what did u heat the wax to? So we had very similiar results, which is a good sign. I think anyway, LOL.
  13. This is the only jar I have had to go up to cd4's in a long time. I didn't really want to. MOST of my jars take only 2 cd2's. I have been burning this candle again today, meltpool is slower and more shallow in depth today. The jar is barely warm. It's been 3 hours and the MP hasn't even reached the diameter of the jar yet.
  14. I'm gonna have to try a cd20 by itself. Now I'm curious
  15. OK, so this is after 2 hours of burning. The jar is just warm to the touch, not hot at all, my melt depth has stayed consistent at this depth. No Soot, No Shrooms. Great Scent Throw.
  16. Stella do those work for you? I was wondering about that a long time ago.
  17. I actually have a 4 incher I need to test anyway. It's wicked exactly how I explained above. I will light it up, go do my errands and show you the results after an hour, 2 hours and so on if you want. (No I am not leaaving my candle alone, I meant errands in my house, LOL)
  18. When I double wick I like to try to base it on other jars with the same wax and scent, but different size. So let's say I have a 3" inch jar that works great with... a CD10 wick. ( This is JUST an example) And the jar I am going to double wick is 4". Like Stella said, there is twice the heat with double wicks so automatically it's going to be hot in there. So for me I figure I should wick down a few as a starting point. Doesn't mean I am going to stay that low, it just gives me an idea of what to start with. A Double wicker with CD10's just seems too large to me, considering how it did in a 3" jar. So I would maybe divide that in half, which would take it to a CD5 but I have yet to find one. I would start at CD4's and if those didn't quite make it I would go up to CD6's. I have wicked a 4" apothecary BTW way and CD4's worked well for me. Some scents took a CD6, but only a few. HTH This is just my procedure. Every one has different ways.
  19. Vicki, I think she is saying the the depth is an inch (1/2" more). That's how I understood it anyway. I could be wrong.
  20. I would be less worried if it had no other side effects. Like the smoking or soot you mentioned, mushrooming, and so on. Another thing to consider is... Is the depth of melted wax increasing the longer the candle burns? I mean after 4 hours of a burn, is there 4 inches of melted wax or does it stay consistent at the same amount you mentioned. Like Vicki asked. Is this your first burn? And definitly, ALWAYS, burn your candle all the way through before making adjustments.
  21. I am using a blend. I used to have the same as you. Couldn't take it anymoire. Have you thought about going to a blend. I was using a blend of 75/25 but tweaked it a little and developed a 50/50 blend on my own that is awesome!
  22. Wow. I guess I am lucky enough to drive there! I buy jars from them all the time. They don't have them listed on their site but I am sure if you called them they could tell you what they carry. They don't call their jars the same name as most of the companies. Like their apothecary jars are just small, medium and large jars, not Apothecary. Gets kind of confusing at times. LOL
  23. I think they didn't understand what jars I was talking about. I have always received (for the most part) good customer service too. I'm still going back... I love their wax! I remember you saying you were from Holly. Now that I asked again, LOL.
  24. I am South of Seattle and Lakewood and use both Swan's Candles and Let It Shine. Let It Shine is awesome. I am on the fence about Swans because yesterday I called them and asked if they had the jars I was looking for. I called because I am about 50 miles south of Lakewood and the drive isn't a fun one. I-5 is being remodeled and it's horrible driving through it. Anyway, they said they had 14 cases of one jar, 11 of the other. I got there and they only had 1 of my most popular jar, and 3 of the other. Pissed me off! Almost not even worth the drive at this point. Anyway... glad to see someone else from the evergreen state!
  25. I was making a candle this morning. Didn't realize my mouth was open. When I poured the FO into the wax some splashed up (more like dumped instead of poured) and got in my mouth. I brushed my teethers like 3 times and still tasted Aloe Vera!!!!!!!!
