Thank you so much! And there is a store about 2 hours away from me too. Sheryl -
Need container suggestions for the fundraiser
Sheryl replied to Sheryl's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
Thanks all...I always appreciate input. Actually I have made soy containers before and the jar sizes are almost identical. I'll try both single and double wicking to decide which works the best though since I have just discovered that some people use the doubles in the tureens. The wax and wicks that I have burning in my test right now are doing fine just as they did 3 years ago before I took a hiatus. I do intend to test further with the tureens however but I haven't chosen a scent...at least yet today. Sheryl -
If anyone has experience with container candles and a little time to help me sort out which containers I might look into for this fundraiser I would very much appreciate it. I've made soy candles before, have 8# on hand as well as the wicks but I do need some reasonably priced containers and I'm going to need to order quickly since I have less than a month to pull these together. She only wants a dozen to gauge interest but I want to make sure I produce the best product that I can produce and I've read about certain containers being somewhat of a problem. I do have a dozen 6 oz tureen jars on hand. You can PM me or email me at: dncgfthr1@yahoo.com Thanks all in advance! Sheryl

Oh, love the paw print molds too! Thanks everyone for suggestions. I'd love for this to work out. She's suggested that I make a "sampling" batch of 8 ounce container candles for a Silent Auction/Art Exhibit that they're having up here during our Pear Festival in September to gauge people's interest. She wants to just have one scent and name it Puppy Breath so now I just need to pull out some bottles from my supply and see what we can come up with there. I know we'll never come up with one scent that everyone will feel is a "must have" but I'm hoping that it can be as generally appealing as possible to generate interest. Puppy breath...oh boy! Sheryl

I thought of that too Julie...we're still in the talking stages and can probably switch things around. But I like the idea behind it. Maybe just continue to use the "Gimme Shelter" logo with the Light a candle idea. There are several other people to run it by as well. As always, thanks for the input! I hope I can handle this cause these animals are adopted all over the SF Bay Area with some as far away as Nevada and Washingon and Oregon! Sheryl

She has pictures of many dogs and cats who had to be euthanized because they were unable to find homes. So she said that we could do something like Gone But Not Forgotten. Light a candle for the ones who didn't find a home. Or something like that. I think it's a great idea...any comments? Sheryl

Hey, thanks everyone! I'm not sure what size to make but am open for suggestions. I haven't done a lot of containers with paraffin or soy wax so I'm going to try to keep the list down to something I can test and be successful with. I've done a little lurking on other fundraising websites to see what's being offered but will do more of that today if she's still excited about the idea. I love her logo and next to it she has "Gimme Shelter!". I don't know about using photos of dogs though because like you said Julie, people do have favorites. And, from what I saw on their website yesterday, most all of them are mixed breeds. I even thought maybe using puppy pictures could be a good hook too. I love the tart idea! Guess I'll cruise around and see if I can find a mold of some kind! Great for little gifts during the holiday season! Sheryl

After I hit send it occured to me that container candles would probably be a lot quicker to make and a lot easier! If I end up doing it I might drum up some business as well...you never know! I'll run the idea by her tomorrow and see what she thinks. Thanks for the tip Sharyl!

I am volunteering my time to a local animal shelter and, when I mentioned candles as a possible product to sell as a fundraiser, the head lady jumped at the idea. She suggested something that would incorporate an umbrella or a doghouse as the "shelter"...could I make umbrella or doghouse candles or something that would symbolize the idea. She so totally caught me off guard that I told her to give me a couple days to see if I could come up with something. The little logo she's using for the upcoming Silent Auction and Art Exhibit is a cartoon doghouse with a pooch happily sitting out front. All of you always have such clever ideas that I thought I'd toss it out to this board. I'm still scratching my head over it! I had thought of possibly hurricane candles with the logo but that's about as far as I've gotten. TIA Sheryl-NorCal

Or they might be too small maybe? Just a thought. Sheryl NorCal

Thanks everyone...I did several searches without much success and I know it all depends on FO and color as well. I'm one of those "be prepared" people! Sheryl

Clamshell Packaging...Where to find???
Sheryl replied to southernscents's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
The individual molds are nice but they're just too fragile and more work all the way around. Glad you brought that up Amy! Sheryl -
I remember it took 6 pounds of wax and some fiddling with the wick pins ! The dry bean ideas sounds like it could help me there too. I was trying to make a burgundy one and, of course, it drowned the wick. I intend to test using much less wax this time but want to make sure I have enough different wicks on hand first! I have #4 square and #2/0 here now so guess I'd better add your suggestions onto my next order! Sheryl

I've only attempted one of these big guys and, of course, my wick choice was incorrect. Been a while ago so I can't remember what size I used but I'm getting brave enough to try it again only not 6" tall this time! Any suggestions on where to begin? Some of these wicking charts are a little confusing! TIA Sheryl Norcal

I'm more than ready to just learn how to "dink" like you "dink"!!! Sheryl

Getting my website together and was wondering
Sheryl replied to Sheryl's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
You wouldn't believe how many sites I have up with possible purchases in the shopping cart wondering, should I, shouldn't I, will they sell etc. I'm looking for the best deals on fluted molds mainly! I love those molds but wondered if it was just me! Me doesn't count! I have some of the older shapes from way back when but also want to be "current"! Thanks again! Sheryl -
Wish my scrap wax was 1343! Very pretty. Sheryl

What's the most effective way to scent a bear?
Sheryl replied to Sheryl's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
I like to do as much research ahead of time as possible so all of these posts are helpful to me. Julie, I assume you sell your bears? I cannot imagine anyone receiving one of them as a gift and not passing your information along. I've toyed with the idea of incense since I love using it myself. Looking at the 2 remaining storebought sticks in my decanter brought it to my mind again! Sheryl
