  1. I am going to make this again and try uping the liquid soap in one batch and adding SLSA in another batch.

It has been almost a week and still very, very little suds when you use it. I don't know enough about butters and I might be showing my stupidity, but I cannot see where using Shealoe butter would have that affect. But like I said, I am soooooo new to this that it just shows my ignorance too!! :P

I don't have any other butters so if it is by chance the Shealoe butter, what could I use in place of the butters in the recipe?

  2. I pay $3.31 lb. For me the biggest savings is no shipping. It's nice to be able to pick it up locally when you need it fast. AAA Chemicals has it for $2.25 lb but that's not figuring in the shipping cost.

I just went to their site and it is cheaper to have them ship it than what it will cost me local. I will have to talk to the store local and see if they would be willing to lower their prices any. I can get is for $3.30 shipped through AAA. At the Lye guy it will cost me $3.49 lb so still cheaper.

Guess I will have to call the manager tomorrow and see what I can work out.

  3. I have tried Lowes, Ace, and Home Depot. At Lowes, the guy didn't even know what it was!! The other places did not carry it. I will have to get the phone book out and start calling.

Also, thanks for the link Barbara. It may just well be that I have to order it online.

  4. I was going to try some CP soap this week-end and I have been looking for lye all week long, however, NO ONE has it. I cannot find any place that carries it and a lot of people have never even heard of it.

Any suggestions as to where I can get this?

    Thanks!!

  5. Thanks prairie. I will try that. It only sat for a couple days before my daughter HAD to try it so I don't know if a longer cure time would help either.

I also thought about adding a little SLSA to see if that helped. I added some to an olive oil soap I made and the lather on that one was fantastic. But I did not add goat's milk or the liquid soap to that one. Just the base, come glycerin, stearic and SLSA. Turned out really good.

  6. I made some of your recipe PA but there is not much lather to it. I followed the recipe except used Shealoe butter in place of the other two cause I didn't have any of those. I also used a goat's milk base instead of white.

Any idea what I did wrong??

  7. My local Walmart had 2 loaves of Velveeta cheese w/free cheese keepers just like this! I got 1 and my sister got the other. I might have to "borrow" it from her & forget to return it! You might want to keep an eye out b/c I know I have seen them at Walmart around the holidays before too. It was like $5 and I got the cheese too!!:yay:

I will have to keep my eyes open for this. And thanks for the tupperware idea too!!

  8. I love swirly bubble bars! Very nice!

I think someone should host a bubble bar swap! :D

I think that someone is going to start one when the cream of tartar co-op that Lisasoaps is doing ends. That way we will all have our stuff to make 'em with!!

  9. The hand held leather hole punch works the best for me. I punch them while slightly warm. I they are too warm, then you can't punch though them and if too cool it's hard to get the punch through.

I have tried this way before but I thought they were a pain in the arzz!! Also gave myself horrible blisters from the constant compression. And if you were doing a large quantity, I would think you would have extremely sore hands.

However, when I used this method I waited til they were completely cool so I will have to try them again when they are still slightly warm.

  10. My soon to be ex husband works for UPS Freight and says that Fed-Ex is doing some crazy shipping right now. A promo of some type for 90 days but I don't know much more than that except the rates are super cheap.

I don't know if you have to be a huge corp account or if us little guys can get in on it too. Next time I talk to him, I will ask him and see what I can find out.

  11. About the heat, as long as you make them a decent thickness, you should not have any problems. I have found that ribbon works better than something like string or fishing line (yes I have seen that). I have tried a leather hole punch and it was a nightmare!! Took forever and was very hard to do. When I string them, I also use a large crafting needle. Putting the hole there is the hardest part IMO.

You could always go out and buy a drill and drill your own. I know that they are not too expensive here and now I am going to have to try that. I never thought of that way.

I have never tried using something while they were baking to set the hole but I guess if you could come up with something it never hurts to try.

eta: I am going to make some this week-end for some of my kids friends. I will have to try the dowel thing and let you know how it works out.
