  1. Hello All,

I have not been on here forever and took a couple of years off after having my little. I am getting started again and looking for a good tart/melt wax. I would like one that has a fabulous HT. I was using a 100% soy before but it would crumble when trying to get out of the clamshells.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. I cannot wait to start making again as I have missed it terribly!!

    Thanks Everyone!

  2. I am still reading and researching everything. I really want to start making bath and body products and this seems pretty easy. My question is this makes 80 lip balms can you once you have everything mixed together just take like a 1/4 of and add flavor oil and then let the rest set and remelt later? How much flavor oil would you use for 1/4 of the recipe. Thanks in advance for the help. My girls go through a ton of lip balm and this would the perfect thing for me to start with.

You know babygirl, I was wondering that as well. But since the move, I have not been able to try anything so I kinda just put everything on the back burner. I would definately be interested in knowing the same thing.

  3. I make my own powdered incense. It sells really well here and when i was in FL it went over very well. Sometimes I sell more of the incense than I do candles, but I found a way to package them to make them look different.

I always burn incense when I am at shows or the Farmer's Market, that brings people in to see what is smelling so good... then I get to demonstrate how it works... so for me the powdered incense works the best.

How do you make powdered incense? I have never heard of it.

  4. I found that the scents never lasted long either. I will have to try the mister bottle and see how that goes. You stated that you sell the freshener with the mister. What do you sell those for?

  5. They don't look THAT awful!! If you want brighter colors, I would use less color. Also, I have metal molds so I bend them before each use to lay flat. I also do not cook mine as long as the BC site says. Yours look like they cooked to long. And like others have said, I also trim off any weird excess if it bothers me.

I know the first time I made these, they looked worse than yours. I cooked them way too long and the colors were supposed to be a bright blue and red. I got gross and grosser!! :laugh2: But I cut way back on the colors and have not had a problem since. Also, I sometimes use the powdered dyes and will get some cool variations.

Good luck and just try again!!

  6. Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you add extra FO to wickless candles or melts/tarts or if you add a refresher bottle of FO in like 1/2 dram size so that the scents can be refreshed when they fade?

I had someone ask me about a refresher bottle and thought I would get some input on what others do.

Thanks in Advance for the help!!

  7. Candlemama I mix my pop colors with a little Distilled water before adding it to the soap. If you are using Goatsmilk you will get kind of a grayish tint to the soap. If I add GM I add a little TD to the Base before adding the Grape Pop Mica. I add about 3/4 teaspoon of the Grape Pop Mica to 2 pounds of soap for a medium color.

    What is TD?

  8. Wondering how everyone likes the large 6oz. clamshells? How is the quality? I need to order some and really would like a larger capacity clamshell and I think 6oz would be ideal. TIA

The ones that were ordered for the co-op from this thread were actually 10 cavity 10 oz ones. The 6 oz ones were some that I found after the fact.

  9. Are you using the powders or the liquid colors? I have both the powders, which I use for make up, and the liquid, which I use for soap. The liquid is just the powder dispersed in glycerin. If you have some glycerin, you can mix it up yourself.

I've found with the liquid Pop colors, I can't get a deep, rich color in the white M&P base. I suppose if I used a lot I could, but then I'm pretty sure my suds wouldn't be white any more! If you look in the gallery, I posted a pic of some red and green watermelon soap. I colored the white base a green color, which you can see isn't very dark, and my suds are very slightly tinged green.

In the clear base, I can get a darker, richer color with about half as much mica. So what I've been doing, for the most part, is coloring the clear base, leaving the white base uncolored, and then swirling the two together.

Do you know what the ratios would be in mixing the glycerin and powder? I never thought about a white or goats milk color making it harder to color, but now that you mention it, it makes sense. I will have to try some in the clear and try mixing the two to see how it works. I was just really, really disappointed at the icky grayish color I got in place of a lavender color.

  10. I use about 1/4 tsp of the mica per lb to get a good color going and add more if needed. The mica powders are stubburn to incorporate into the base but it can be done. Try putting them in a bit of glycerin and blending before adding to your melted base. It will make it easier to blend. I found it also helps to pop the melted base back into the microwave and give it another short burst or two to help for the last bits to blend in and get rid of stubburn specks of mica.

The best color to use are the liquid colors from TKB. Get the ones that are non-bleeding thou. I believe the POP colors also come in the liquid along with a whole lot of other liquid colors to choose from.

I added the color directly to the soap base and I did pop it back in the microwave after. It was supposed to be lavender and is a gross grayish color. I don't have the liquid but was thinking of getting some of those to try as well.

  11. I love eucalyptus spearmint, but I'm not sure if that's minty enough for you. Usually when people say 'mint' they mean peppermint. Anyway I got introduced to the relaxing idea of it from aromatherapy and from the version at Bath & Body Works, and now I regular make massage oils, scrubs, and a super-scented oil in a tiny bottle for massaging on temples for headaches. I keep one of those tiny bottles at work, in my bedroom, and I gave my boyfriend one. Feels wonderful to massage your face with it when you have a sinus headache.

I wonder if that would work for migraines too?? How do you make that oil if you don't mind sharing? I get migraines a good bit and nothing helps at all.
