  1. I have been reading about firestarters but have never seen them. Is there a recipe to follow to make them?
  2. I noticed that C&S has a fragrance oil enhancer to use 50/50 with fragrance oil for the reed diffusers. Has anyone used this yet and what is you opinion. C&S claims that their oil contains no alcohol or DPG.
  3. I see that C&S has a fragrance oil enhancer to be mixed 50/50 with fragrance oil. Has anyone tried this enhancer? They claim that it has no alcohol or DPG.
  4. I posted this question in the general catagory and now think I made a mistake. I am looking to find out if anyone has purchased reed diffuser scents from Taylored Concepts. They claim that they can make any of their fragrances reed diffuser compatable. I notice bittercreek has a few fragrances but I woul like to have more variety.
  5. I noticed that the taylored concept website says that they can make any of their fragrances into reed diffuser compatible scents. Has anyone purchased the reed diffuser scents from them. I notice that bittercreek has some but I would like to have more variety.
  6. Where is the best place to purchase the diffuser fragrance oils? I see that bittercreek has a few scents but I am looking for more variety.
  7. I did one batch for 7 minutes and the second batch for 5 minutes. The batch baked for 5 minutes was the one that came out pretty ugly. I even tried to lower the baking temp to 325 for a special try but that didn't look to good either. Oh Well I guess I will just keep on trying or settle for smooth ornies. I also use a sizzors to trim the top.
  8. Well, I read the directions and followed them as instructed BUT my ornies did not come out bumpy, rather they are smooth. I tried baking them at a lower temp and also tried baking them for a shorter time. The shorter time produced some pretty ugly looking ornies - smooth and bumpy but the bumpy was not melted enough. Is there a trick to making them? Like everything else in candlemaking it sounds easy but isn't. ANY help will be appreciated.
  9. Sarah I have purchased from Levine and have found that they run sales all the time and that is when I purchase from them. Just keep checking their website Ingrid happy Mothers Day to all
  10. Does anyone recommend a fo that really smells like having a live christmas tree in the house? I want to make ornies for those that have artificial trees but like the smell of a live tree. Any suggestions would be helpful. I noticed that Just Scent is having a sale this week. Thanks\ Ingrid
  11. My suggestion would be to contact an accountant. They can best guide you with your business deductions and help you save the most money in taxes, after all that is what they do. Ingrid
  12. I am sure all of you must be tired of wicking questions but here goes anyway. I am using J50 wax with 1.5 oz blueberry scent tinted very dark blue.\ I am trying to get a full melt pool in a 16oz apothacary jar with one wick CD18. No luck too much hangup on the sides. Tried 2 60-44-18 but too much melt pool too quickly 1/2 hour and full melt pool. I am now trying to use 2 44-28-18paper. Still waiting for the results. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have been successful single wicking the 16 oz apoth with a CD18 on my lighter scents and colors but blueberry and home made apple pie and french vanilla seem to be my problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ingrid:confused:
  13. Wondering if anybody is going to the candle workshop this weekend at Candles and Supplies in Pa. This will be my first workshop as I am fairly new to the candlemaking business. Looking forward to learning more. Ingrid
  14. Mendy Where did you see that candle? It looks great Ingrid
  15. I got mine last season at BJ's. Paid 179.00 included 3 sides, banner, cover with wheels. Ingrid
  16. Thanks so much for your replies. It is just great having so much information available . This business of candlemaking is certainly challenging and also quite rewarding. Thanks again for your help Ingrid
  17. I have been reading your comments on the J223 wax but no one has said anything about J50. I was under the impression that these waxes were so close that they were almost identical. I have been using J50 for the last 8 months and also have problems with wet spots. I get my wax from candles and supplies because I can pick it up. Saves a great deal of money in shipping. Has anyone any comments of the J50 vs. J223. Is one really better than the other? Appreciate any info. Thanks Ingrid
  18. I have noticed that there are a lot of suppliers of fo's out there. I purchased an existing candle business last spring and the previous owners used fo's from Connies Candles in Ohio. I have also seen that you all seem to use 1 oz to 1.5 oz per lb of wax for your candles. I was told to use 2 oz per lb for the container wax J50 or J223 and 2 oz per lb for the votive wax 6228, Does anyone have and opinion on Connies Candles. I have seen that a lot of you like Just Scent and Peaks. Would appreciate any opinions. Ingrid
  19. Would like opinions of FO suppliers. I presently use Connies Candles and Candles and Supplies. Have found C&S to be good for some scents - Mac Apple for example and reasonable when bought in quantity. Connies Candles seems to be quite consistant with their scents but not to many sales. I have seen Just Scents e-mails with her sales and was wondering about the quality of her scents. I also see that Peaks is a preference for a lot of you. Would like to get an opinion. It is always nice to save money since the largest expense is the fragrances. I don't want give up quality but I don't want to waste money. Opinions would be greatly appreciated. Ingrid
  20. Have been using Connies Candles for FO's but have seen Just Scents sales. Have also bought from Candles and Supplies (they are within driving distance for me). Would like to switch to Just Scents because of better prices but don't want to give up quality. Have also seen that Peak's is a favorite for a lot of you. Would like opinions. Thanks Ingrid
  21. Candles and Supplies has a very good scent. Mac Apple has been a very large seller for me. Ingrid
  22. I am having a problem with an aromatherapy scent called calming waters burning in an 8 oz tin. I make two other scents in the 8 oz tins and have no problem with using a CD18 wick. The calming waters however will not give me a full melt pool. Has anyone any suggestions as to the wick I should be using. I have tried 44-28-18, 60-44-18. Should I go to the LX or should I just say forget about the scent and try something else. This candlemaking is surely not an exact science. Test, test. test/ Not only my candles but my patience. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Happy New Year to everyone. Ingrid
  23. I had my husband convert my presto pot and I am having difficulty with the wax going through. He used a 1/4 inch hex nipple and 3/8 inch valve. I know the instructions called for a 3/8 hex nipple, 3/8 inch full port valve and 3/8 inch elbow but he did it his way I can't stand it when one doesn't follow directions. Has anyone else had difficulty with the wax going through? I even tried putting my heat gun on the hex nipple but no luck. Ingrid:cry2:
  24. If you have an ACMoore near you they usually run sales on votive holders The last time I purchased they ran a sale of 4 for $1.00/ Ingrid
  25. I just heard a new description in candlemaking and would like to know what it means. Fingernailing.... Thanks Ingrid
