  1. Hello everyone, its been a long time. I'm retired now ,with a lot of time on my hands. A few people have ask if I'm going back into making candles now. Kicking it around. so, if I'm counting right, I`ve been here off and on for about 14-15 years. Back when it Peaks had it. Looks like I`ll be starting with new wax, since the co. I used to buy for has gone under. I still have votive cups, pins, wicks (don't know if they are any good), jars and a huge wax melting machine out in my shop. Anywoo,( I think ), I`m glad to be back....there are still some names here I recognized. Hello all!
  2. has anyone estimated the price per ld. for making these? Its seems more expensive than wax.
  3. I wouldnt even think about selling candles outdoors in this TEXAS heat.
  4. Very good advise here. Co-op/Classied are good for looking for cheaper supplies. I stopped making candles 2 years ago.Long story.(other than for a few customers and friends).Went back to work full time. Husband decides he wants the shop/garage back. Starts building a shop on the back for me. Though all of the building for the last 3 months. While moving all of the supplies ( wishing that I had my money back from) It dawn on me that it looks like I`m back in the business again! LOL.
  5. Wow Chris, that is awesome!!!! I could only wish to be that organizied. A very good set-up. My husband gave me the thumps up today to move in the shop he builded for me. Every thing is disorganizied right now. I need shelfs. Do you just pour out the wax you need, then mix in a pitcher and pour what you need? Thanks for posting. Checked out your website..very nice!
  6. found it!!!! I knew i wasnt crazy.... www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18505 I think this is a great way to set up.
  7. I`ve learned that your one of a million doing candles and soap. Just a fact of life, not trying to be mean. You have to stand out from the crowd, and have a few $ thousand laying around to promote your dreams.
  8. Thanks for the advise, but, they are pretty beat up. Just wanting to start fresh, you know? Theres a guy here several years ago(?)that posted how he set up his shop. His wife and kids helped him and he only did jars. I printed out how he had set up his shop almost like a assembly line. I was very impressed how he did it. Cant fine it:confused: . Can anyone remember him? Cant remember his name darn it. Oh well, I`ll just have to dig deeper.lol Wow wwjacks, your close to a few candle suppliers!! Have you tried that big fragrance company down there? ( the name ecapes me) ?
  9. What kind of shortcuts have you tried, to be more efficient in your candle work room or shop? I`m downsizing and am not making votives anymore so I dont need the extra tables, molds, pins,etc...so, just making jars candles and maybe tarts. I have too many pans and pitchers and I`m throwing them out. As far as my wax machine, table, jars., what do you suggest I should set this up? I`m at my wits end tring to come up with the best way. I`m ADD and I can waste more time getting nothing finished. Thanks for any help.
  10. I`ve been out of the candle business for almost two years, started working full time, on second shift making airplanes, but come in every now and then to check how people are making it work for them. I`ve notice that paraffin is higher than soy ( can someone explain that to me?). My husband has torn down his old shop where he had his "junk" and moved into my shop where I use to make candles. It made me sad because I enjoyed it so much "back when".And hated giving up when the paraffin and soy jumped up during the gas prices. Had a few customers that still stay with me. Notice alot of you hung on , alot left too. But my husband surprised me with a new slab of cement and three walls and where the sink, light fixtures, tables and waxmachine were going to go. Bigger than a one car garage.Haven`t decided where the door and forth wall is going up yet.lol. Cant seem to get excited yet. Its alot of work getting your candles out there. Trying to keep up with the trends, newest fragrances, jars, etc.... It will be a while till its finished. Probable by the end of summer. Thanks for reading..
  11. Has anyone ever heard of AAA candle supply in Texas? Their website doesnt seem to be updated. Are they still in business?TIA
  12. What is the number for the Dallas Warehouse, Brad? Thanks
  13. fredron, I just found this old tread and was asking For His Glory a question....sorry
  14. Oh please Candle Gods, dont tell this is going to happen. For His Glory, did you finally fiqure out it took more vybar?
  15. Well, ended up putting them in the refri. After about 15 mins. they popped right out of the mold. I put 1 tsp.of vybar 160 pur 1 lb. of wax. Should I put more? Thanks to all who responed.
  16. Well, I just added vybar, oil and dye like I use with my formula. Ususally my votives slip right out easily from the votive mold. Had to bang around a bit to get them to come out. Much more creamer than my paraffin that I`m use to.
  17. Any one use this paraffin wax? Went to a supplier on my way home from work. My other supplier that I get my wax from was on the other side on town. I ask for "just plain paraffin" assuming that it was similar to what I use. Dont know the name .The supplier that I use for my wax just calls it paraffin. It doesn`t look or "feel" like my wax....dammit why couldn`t I pull my head out of my a$$ long enought to realize that every paraffin grade of wax isnt the same. There went 75.00. IGI® 2281A is a specially selected grade of white crude scale wax possessing good flexibility as well as high gloss on air cooling. IGI® 2281A is ideal for use in container candles or as a vegetable wax. The storage life of vegetables such as turnips is improved by prevention of loss of moisture, while appearance is enhanced for improved marketability. Because it maintains flexibility at refrigerated temperatures, chipping and cracking of the coating is minimized when compared to other waxes.
  18. I use paraffin, but I use Micro as a additive in mine. Had the same problem. But it was not putting enough Micro in it.
  19. Marcus, I was wondering if you ever did this? How did it work out for you? Did the fo fragrance blend when you open the clam shell?
