  1. Definately a hit or miss. I strongly suggest utilizing their samplers before buying in large qty. I had some of the dupes, not be so accurate yet some were good. Some of the FO's were ok in strength but good in others. You definately want to test the stuff in wax before putting on your scent list prematurely. Ask me how I know lololol.

  2. The downside to using a mold: Finding the perfect container. Not all flower pot glasses are the same. Buy one from Wal-mart, the dollar store and Hobby Lobby. They are all a different "type" of FPV.

The upside: Not breaking the glass molds, and having difficulties in getting the candle out.

Some people have trouble getting the FPV out because of the rim on top that the cheaper glasses have. I make these thing like freaking crazy. I personally use the Glass for the mold. Especially since they are readily available. Like if i nedd an extra 24, I can just go get them, and get the job done. No need to wait for an order. HTH GL

  3. Well there really is no "Shortcut" out of insurance. If you are serious enough to sell, then you better be serious enough to be legit. Is it really worth it to you to take shortcuts? The thing is, a waiver is going to 1. not do a damn bit of good. 2. Going to make customers shy away since they have to sign a waiver. You are almost saying "My stuff is dangerous to burn so I have to protect myself. The purpose of insurance is to provide protection to you in the case of manufacturers negligence. So if the customer leaves their candle burning for 24 hours straight and something happens to it, chances are you are not going to foot the bill. That is where a good attorney comes in. I have yet to hear of a candlemaker sued out of house and home because of the customers stupidity. That is why THEY have insurance. Now that being said. If they had your candle burning for an hour, and it was completely liquefied, with a jar extremely hot on one side due to the fact that you have an over sized wick and it is leaning to one side, well then no "waiver" is going to protect you anyway if that jar creates a fire. The customer has the burden of proof, to show that you where the cause of it. And if they do, your screwed. My advice, don't take the easy way out, get insurance. Honestly, if you have to figure out ways to worm out of getting insurance, you really have no business selling at all. JMO though. GL

  4. The reason I asked the question in the first place was because I figured that if something like soy is so "bad" to be put on the skin, how come paraffin isn't seen in the same light? But like I said I don't see using soy as a lotion as being all that bad in and of itself. Taking it from a soy candle is silly, yes. But not deadly. That's all I wanted to understand for myself. Thanx for the replies.

No not deadly. The temp of the wax can be harmful to use in lotion candles though. As also the FO or dyes if any.

  5. Apart from the dye and fragrance and labeling, it's often about using the candle flame to melt the wax and not knowing what the temperature of the product might be. Besides, it's silly. If people think that's a great skin treatment, it's a lot easier and cheaper to buy a container of Crisco vegetable shortening, which is the same thing.

Really? Natural is better huh? So I guess that ecoli ridden natural spinach was perfectly fine. I think not. Natural is not always so safe and healthy. I am sick and tired of people using this theory just to market a product and scare customers into buying their crap.

As for the "reference" on FDA and all that, well that is pure marketing. Notice the link to that information is from the wax company that is being pitched.

Paraffin is perfectly safe to use on the skin. I get the stuff splashed on my face pretty often when i throw slabs of wax into my melter and forget the thing is gonna splash. I pour it on my hands by accident on a regular basis and guess what?? OMG!! No cancer yet!! Still alive and kicking. I OWN a praffin dip kit, and no where does the package say "any kind of certain grade paraffin". I think the most dangerous part of it would be the irritation of the skin from dye, and non-skin-safe FO. JMPO

  6. Well this is where you have to decide what is worth more to you. I pay double my cost in wick assemlies now that I get them pre-made for me. They cost me .02 when I assembled them myself. I now pay .04 ea.

Let me tell you, making your ownis tedious and time consuming. I also had trouble pinching the wicks. (A machine does this correctly in the pre-made assemblies). Yes you have to prime each one. Especially for containers.

IMO save yourself the time and trouble, pay the extra couple of cents, use your time for something more productive, and less messy.

  7. You should not be selling uncut/concentrated Fragrance Oil directly to customers. In it's uncure form, it is NOT meant to be used in potpourri burners or as a refresher oil. You should first cut the FO with DPG and THEN sell it. It's too dangerous in its concentrated form.
So why is it sellable to us? What makes it dangerous? I see alot of products that say 100% Fragrance Oil. Now that I think about it, all of the "refresher oils" I have picked up say 100% FO. Just curious.
  8. Be sure to tell them that you asked for a quote, for the reason that someone else was buying with you. What do they expect you to tell them? Tell them you feel scammed by the way they gave you one shipping quote and changed it "After" the fact (of you ordering). Seems like a hook, line and sinker. Talk the the manager in charge and explain that you do not feel you are responsible for picking up the tab on their miscalculation. Also be sure to mention the fact that the comment about your "good deal" was unprofessional. I am curious if this is a widely known company. Seems as if their business antics are pretty shabby.

  9. Get yourself a merchant account. I cannot stand ProPay. They are the epitomy of sleezy if you ask me. I have my merchant account through Securepay.com . It takes 3 days from the time I run the card to get to my checking account. They have a ton of features. Start off small (with the manual key in online) or upgrade to the equipment. They also have a web cart that you can setup on your website.

  10. I like mine simple yet nice. They go with any decor. For example the bright colors and simplisity of the jar are contemporary enough for a "fancy" home. But on the other hand the simplicity of the jar and the kraft labels are great for the country look too. You can view them at my website.

  11. I use mine in my fireplace all the time. I throw them in after the fire is started for a little flare up and a nice slight scent. Maybe it depends on the type of cone? I have never had any of mine "pop" or "jump". They make a popping sound, but so do the logs in the fireplace. Mine are oicked early in the season and allowed to dry in storage. With the heat around here dryng is a snap. I dip mine white then n the colored and scented wax. I think I sold mine 3 for 5 bucks last year. They are pretty big. As far as pricing, pric them like you would anything else.
