  1. I'm new to all this so can someone tell me why you need specific bags to store tarts? Can't you just use normal ziploc bags at the grocery store? I'm not in business, just for a hobby.... Please advise - thanks
  2. well - I went to a Walmart and they didn't have it..... went to SUPER walmart and they had it!!!! It cost me 3.16 cents with tax for 31.5 oz. Plan to test and pour today....
  3. I just found 5.75 ounce Nuance Champagne Fluteif(document.referrer!=""){document.write(" [back]")} glasses at my local grocery store for .49 cents (on sale. org. $1) and plan to test it out to see how they turn out. I use EZSOY and plan to incorporate coconut oil per a previous thread discussion earlier that I just purchased from Super Walmart. My wife is in a wedding in October and I'm thinking of buying a bunch of these for the reception to put on the table along with tarts to dress up the tables a little for dinner.... Any recommendations on what else to do for this? We are doing it as a favor to try and reduce some costs for her wedding plus I think that she will like it! thoughts?
  4. thats what I thought.... ecoysoya advanced is the wax I want to use plus I can get it locally and not pay shipping. 10lb for $25 is $2.50 a lb 50 lb for $55 is $1.10 a lb. seems like a nobrainer to me... I find 10 lbs doesn't last long.. even in the short time I've been testing... I have about 10 - 8 oz jars curing now.
  5. holy cow.. I didn't know shipping could be that much for wax. I'm getting into candle making and just started with the ezsoy start kit this week. I'm glad I have a local supplier down the road from me. (Kangaroo Blue) which I have been in discussions with already. They have ecosoy advanced wax for $55 for 50lbs. I'm going to test it out this month and get some. What are your thoughts... Should I only buy 1 lb or 10 lb of wax first to test? The only problem is 1lb costs $5 and a 10lb costs $25. Might as well buy the 50 lb upfront, right? The other supplier that is 45 minutes away is DPS Wax and they have the same wax I want to use. thoughts?
  6. Sharon - By chance do you have a picture or two of your final product in these widemouth jars? Just curious to see others.... if so my e=mail is reeff@yahoo.com thanks!
  7. I appreciate the feedback. I know the calculations don't seem right however all I did was follow the instructions that are on CandleTech's website and populated the weight of the container and then the weight of the container with water and that is what it came up with. http://www.candletech.com/calculator/container.php I'm using EZSOY What am I doing wrong?
  8. I don't have spigots on mine and I dont' see a problem not having one. I like the magnetic release on the electric cord on the presto as when the tempature hits 175 I pot the electric cord off and pour my wax into a pour pot. Granted, I'm not a big maker in candles so I could see a spigot being a valuable asset for large makers, etc.

  10. Sharon - Do you doublewick your widemouth jars or use a single wick? I did one last night with doublewicks.. I really like how the jar looks as well. The store has like 8 cases still. I think I'm going to go get the remainder of them. This will be a good start for me to use with testing and give away as testers and presents. Thanks!
  11. You like Verbena Berry? It is interesting how people can like and dislike FO's out there. For the wife and I, we can't stand Verbene Berry. I just made a candle with it tonight for the first time. Don't care for the small at all. Right now, the two best FO's I've made is Ocean Mist and Creme Brulee. Both have AWESOME scents! I still have many more to do....
  12. For some reason I just can not get the right amount of wax for a jar as I just did one now and I'm 1/4 inch short to where I projected it to be. Here are my numbers: Weight of 12 oz. Ball Quilted Crystal Jar = 8.3 oz Weight of 12 oz. Ball Quilted Crystal Jar w/ water = 19 oz 19 - 8.3 = 9.2 oz. of wax per jar. FO 6%: 9.2 x .06 = .552 oz of FO Wax 94%: 9.2 x .94 = 8.65 oz of wax I added 1 yellow dye chip What am I doing wrong?????? I am using EZSOY wax
  13. I went and bought one of each and I'm going to test em out tonight. I especially like the 8 oz widemouth jars. The 12 oz crystal is nice but they have a pillar style body to it that I don't care for.... I'll wait for some more feedback but I think I might go back and buy the rest of the widemouths....
  14. I just returned from my local grocery store and found they are currently having a 50% clearance on some of their jars such as the following: 12 oz. Ball Quilted Crystal Jars (12 of them) and 8 oz. Widemouth Tapered Jars (12 of them) They are being sold for $4.49 a case. Would you consider these jars a good deal and acceptable to use in making candles. (Soy wax) Thanks!

  16. Any chance I can get a copy of that spreadsheet to spit me out the information based off of the data? haha.. I hate figuring the data out.... I'd like to stick to 1 oz of FO per lb of wax. I've heard anymore is waste (of course some FO's are different) You brought some great advice! thanks corey
  17. I never thought of that.. I just weight my 8 oz jar with wax in it and it weights 12.4 oz. Without wax it weights 6.3 oz. 12.4 - 6.3 6.1 oz. So your telling me I need 6.1 oz. of wax per jar. Is that liquid or flakes?
  18. thanks for the input... I did use that calculator however what I found in my first two tests was that I didn't have enough wax to pour into all my jars. I have a digital scale and did exactly what they told me to do. Is this calculator based off of using Soy wax? thoughts....
  19. I guess I didn't think of doing one jar at a time.... Does anyone have a spreadsheet that you can plug your numbers in on the weight of the jar, weight of jar with water, etc. to determine the amount of wax and FO? I'm not a math wizard on this and its getting confusing... thoughts?
  20. Look for any feedback but here it goes: TEST #1 (3) 8 oz. Jelly jar 6% FO (aprox. 1.1 oz.) of Honey Coco Mango Put FO into wax at 125 degrees 23.6 oz of EZSOY wax 2 yellow dye chips Results: Was not able to fill all 3 jars (2 3/4) with the wax I used above. TEST #2 (2) 8 oz. Jelly jar (1) 6 oz. Jelly jar 6% FO (aprox. 1.05 oz.) of Ocean Mist Put FO into wax at 130 degrees 23.65 oz of EZSOY wax Results: Still did not fill all 3 jars with the wax I used above. TEST #3 (3) 8 oz. Jelly jar 6% FO (aprox. 1.1 oz.) of Creme Brulee Put FO into wax at 125 degrees 26.55 oz of EZSOY wax (1) ivory dye chip and (1) yellow dye chip Results: Filled all jars perfect however after 12 hours I noticed alot of wet spots on jars. The instructions I received from my soy candle kit from BCN says to pour FO into wax at 120 degrees (around) however many people on this forum state to pour at 175 degrees to get best results. So I just finished 2 more batches and have put the FO in at 175 degrees to see what takes place. How can I post my pictures of the results of each of these tests? thoughts.. thanks!
  21. What problems occur with the candle if you pour the batch at 105 or 110 versus 100 into the candles? Does it cause any problems? I'm having a tough time waiting for the thermoter to hit 100. By then the pot pour that contains the wax is very slushy and it causes me to use a spoon to get it all out of the pot pour and then makes one of my candles a mess! Then I have to put it in the oven to even out. thoughts?
  22. your spot on as I was a little short on the 3rd jar as I was able to fill 2 3/4 jars from the sample above. Thanks for the input!
  23. OK - I just ran my first batch of candles and tested the following: (3) 8 oz. Jelly Jar 6 % FO = Honey Cocoa Mango - used 1.1 oz. 2 yellow dye chips 15.03 oz of EZSOY Comments: - Poured wax from presto into my 2 quart pot pour to wait until the temp got to 125 degress before putting FO. - I found that my thermometer took forever to get to 100 degrees. In fact, the wax was slushy and it was around 107 degrees and went ahead at that time and poured the wax into jars. - Only was able to pour 2 3/4's of the jars as I did not have anymore wax from the one pound of wax I melted. I even scraped everything from the pot pour container. Would you recommend I put more wax in to melt as a placeholder in the future? Overall thoughts? Now I'm going to let them cure.. How long is recommended? I heard 2 weeks.... On to my second batch... FEEDBACK APPRECIATED!
