  1. Ditto on the cornucopia. LOVE it!!!!!! To me it smells like apples & caramel. Whenever I smell it, a smile magically appears on my face. Everytime! I also love Peak's Red Clove. For fall, I'd think anything woody, i.e. sandlewood, patchouli, etc, would be good.
  2. Not exactly sure what 'burnt orange' looks like, but have you thought about adding some brown? With liquids, which is what I have, maybe 1 drop red, 3-5 drops yellow, 1 drop brown.
  3. Mmmmmmmmm. Maybe your copy paper is too white. lol. I can see why this is a problem, but I would also like to say that I like the whiteness of the paper ... if only the whole thing were that white. I don't know if this is a good idea or not ... what if you were to use a piece of paper that was the same circumference as your mold (or maybe just a tad longer to have some overlap for insurance) & as tall as the 'cane you intend on making? Then paste your flower designs on it, THEN embed? On another thread someone was saying that the interior of their 'cane shell was all bumpy. Yours seem very smooth & I was wondering what your technique is for that.
  4. Robin, thanks for posting the pix. Visual aides are great!
  5. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=518&highlight=container This was a poll done about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Btw, I'm pretty certain you will find that the 1343, straight, will not make a good container wax since it has a higher mp than commonly used container waxes & is better used for pillars.
  6. I use a turkey roaster. Because the water does boil from the bottom, I find that a trivet (sp?) is necessary to make sure the pot (esp if it's metal) doesn't tip over from the bubbling action. The turkey roaster is big enough to contain 4 lg pyrex measuring cups, which is what I use. This way, I can work on more than one candle @ a time. Thought you might like to see a pix ... note: condesation (sp?) does form on the outside of the meausring cups as a result of the cooling steam. I've never had a problem w/ water vapor getting in the wax. I wipe dry the cups from time to time just to be on the safe side.
  7. roflmao! too funny! I was thinking roulette, but that's not the dice game. Think it could be a good name for a container. Definately some very good suggestions! Btw, Luxor, I believe, is the name of an ancient (?) city in Egypt, so that couldn't be copyrighted either.
  8. The 1st couple of 'canes I made were bumpy on the inside, too, but by the 3rd one, I finally figured it out .... I kept the insert in the mold until the wax was a soft solid between the mold sidewall & the insert. Then, I'd remove the insert & pour the rest of the wax back into my presto pot. It finally occured to me to remove the insert, then allow the wax to solidify just a little longer, THEN pour out the rest of the wax. I got smoother walls that way. However, if you were just trying to make a 'blank' 'cane, did you even use an insert? If not, then what I wrote above may not be the cure. To make sure I have a nice, smooth, level bottom, after I unmold the 'cane, I pour just a little more melted wax onto the bottom. I'll also use my heat gun on the sides but then I find I have drip thingys. Oh, Hurricane Queen, Donita, what do you think? Have you noticed how smooth her 'canes appear?
  9. Plz correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I read somewhere that the primary purpose of relief holes was to ensure that the wick was NOT pulled out of place as the candle was solidifying. The post by Alan, is that something on the new board or the old? Just trying to figure out the best way to find that post. It makes me wonder, for those of us who use wick pins, does this mean that we really don't need to poke relief holes? Btw, I've had that happen to me ... air bubbles in between relief holes. edited to add: I found the post ... http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1848
  10. I think the candle & the spool go really well together. You might have just started something new w/ that combo, cuz I want one of those! The background, however, is a bit busy, but it does match perfectly.
  11. I love that you made your corn different shades of yellow, esp since they are like that in nature. Will you be using some other FOs for the brooms besides vanilla? I just can't get sandlewood out of my head when I see those. lol. Awesome brown for those! I also like your nice, strong orange for the pumkin.
  12. Another fine example of how smell is subjective. Interesting that you find sunflower perfumy. It seems to me to be a 'dry' scent that I can hardly smell. Well, heck, once my nose gets a whiff of a strong/heavy FO, I can't smell anything light. lol. Perfect colors for a sunflower FO.
  13. I too like the holders. On my moniter, those yellows put me in mind of butterscotch.
  14. I really like those. The one up front is particularly interesting. How did you get that effect?
  15. Hi Devra. Do you have that same candle posted on the gallery unlit? I can see that the d'fly is at an angle, but that's about all I can tell ... I like it much better this way then straight up & down.
  16. Love that color green. Kinda having a hard time seeing the crackle effect. I was wondering if it would be possible to see a side view?
  17. Those turned out very nice. Great color for a Key Lime fo.
  18. Oops, the 12th is NEXT friday! Sorry if I created any confusion in my original post above ... I deleted "tomorrow" out of it to avoid any further miscommunications.
  19. Is that one of the Astrolite palm waxes? I just love how those look, but I hear they're a PITA to wick. Good luck finding the right wick!
  20. lol. I have ADD, too, & it is a blessing & a curse at the same time. I too am attracted to too many things/crafts/interests/etc that it's hard, if not down right impossible, to choose JUST one! That's the curse. The blessing is the ability to "hyperfocus", which allows you to do what you do w/ your flower 'canes. The amazing thing is that you've been making candles since your early years ... so, you've got a lot of follow thru, which is where I fall apart.
  21. I like your rustics. I hope my scrap projects look that good!
  22. The candle has a concave top ... what if you were to fill in the top w/ some leftover wax, if there is any, & see if you can get a pattern you like better?
  23. LOVE it! Kinda looks a little funny with the shells not going all the way to the top, but not bad. It occurs to me that if I made one, I'd put an inch or two of sand on the bottom (since nothing will be illuminated by flame anyway). It also occurs to me that might appear to be severly (?) disproportionate - a little bit of sand w/ a lot of shells. Usually, on most (?) beaches ,it'd be the other way around - a lot of sand w/ some shells. Now I just wanna play in sand, shells & wax! I love what you did with the mini shells. What does it look like when you've got a votive burning inside?
  24. Candlewic is having a 50% sale on poly molds until the 12th, @ noon. Damn! I wish I had some $, I would surely get more! Just be sure to enter the promo code. "the polycarbonate heat tolerance is around 278 degrees F." This was the answer I got from a candlewic rep in response to an email I sent them asking them for the heat tolerance of they poly molds. I have no problems using my VARIABLE temp heat gun.
