  1. hmmmm...hubby is totally out so I couldn't get an ingredient list.....anyone have experience with this stuff???
  2. After looking at all the FABULOUS mottled and rustic pillars in the gallery...I think I am *ready* to attempt it....I was looking into what types of wax I can get locally and the only types that looks like it will work is "mot 38" Anyone have any experience with this wax? Will it work well for the rustics? Any additives that I may need to pick up? (stearic, mottling oil, etc) TIA crystal
  3. thanks everyone for letting me know...i'll make a mental note to request them next time!!!!
  4. Do you have to request these....because I have NEVER gotten a free sample and have ordered from them several times....always over $50:(
  5. Since I have found some FO's in scents like dirt, mac apple, etc.....hubby was wanting me to make him some of the spray to camoflage his smell for hunting. Are these sprays made the same as body mist or linen sprays for women? I'll have to go look at his older stuff to see if there is an ingredient list........
  6. Defintely agree....you've totally encapsulated the entire argument!
  7. I use baby oil (aka fragranced mineral oil) for skin i use paper towels...since its a little sturdier than tissue or cotton balls you can kind of run it under the nail..for countertops i will dab a little one to the drip and leave it for about 5 minutes then comeback and wipe...hth
  8. I am in the process of switching over to LX wicks myself.....I just got soooooooo tired of all the mushrooming and having to constantly blow out the candle to trim during tests or long burns (especially when I know most consumers aren't doing it!) So far the LXs have been fabulous to work with...can sometimes get an off center burn (from the wick curling to one side) but quickly catches up So far wick testing has gone pretty quickly! Within a week I've found the "base" size of each container I use....now I am testing each FO with that size or +/- a size I figure I'll be switched over in time for my October/November shows
  9. Apples & Oak by Nature's Garden Tall Grass by Peaks Sage, Sweetgrass, & Cedar by Bubbles n Lights Tiger Eyes by Bitter Creek
  10. I already asked hubby for a crockpot and a presto pot for Christmas....hahaha....he knew better than to ask if I was cooking!!!! He simply said "Sure...you want me to take it into work to modify it?" He gotta BIG kiss for that one!!!!!!! I guess that's why I keep him around! Back to subject at hand....yes the nonstick pans are wonderful for all sorts of candle uses! mini muffin pans work well for tarts.....the cookie sheets with the lip around the edge work great for making thin "chunks" for votives....(pour wax into the pan...wait til its firm to the touch, but still warm and pliable and then take a pizza cutter and make strips, squares, you name it! you can also take a cookie cutter and cut shapes out...) the possiblities are endless in the kitchen....just remember...if things dont come out easily a few minutes in the fridge will help!!! now the silicone bakeware is coming out in more fun shapes....it's wonderful...so easy to pop out and you can make some awesome "foodies" with them....check archives...some look better than the "real" thing!!!!!
  11. you must also take into account the type of wick used as well.......
  12. i agree it is definitely better!!!!!!! with the first one the eye just scans and moves on, doesn't have a place to rest...but with the border the eye is drawn to your label first...gives it a place to start because it just screams LOOK AT ME!!! good job!
  13. One of the biggest things affecting burn times of votives is proper glassware....a snug fitting votive cup will allow the wax to melt all the way to the sides and then "act" as a small container candle.....for my votives i use 6228 and 36z wicks and they last about 12-16 hours depending on burning habits
  14. most people bathe to get this scent OFF them...aka campfire smoke.....LOL
  15. yep major money making gimmick....i purchased the orchid scent...smelled better cold than hot....but then again i'm not a floral kinda person...but it was all they had...and walmart was completely out of them NO bases left at all just refills!!!
  16. whats the difference in burning sawdust and regular wood or pellets???? Chimneys are to be cleaned every year prior to burning season REGARDLESS of what is burned........there is also a powder available at Lowes' that can be sprinkled on fires to help with creosote buildup..... EVERYTHING of this nature is a potential firehazard if not used correctly maybe this is something that should go on the warning label when they are sold (the pinecones) personally i see NO difference in the other type with the sawdust/wood curls and burning logs <edited because I sounded WAY to bitchy, WAY to early in the day>
  17. i haven't had any problems with losing scent or scent gravitating toward the bottom and i have candles from the very first "large" batch i made (after i got my wicking down and other tests passed as well).....i have sort of an ongoing experiment every once in a while i will pull one out and burn and make comments on things like appearance, cold throw, hot throw, burn, etc just to see if time effects such things........that first batch is going on 3 years now!
  18. I've found that it is more cost effective (for me) to use one standard look for my tables.....I use black tablecloths and skirting and white table top accessories (crates, shelves, boxes, etc).....which makes the candles really "pop".... afterall its the candles I want seen first!!!! getting the "right" setup can be quite EXPENSIVE - in fact if you started asking crafters about their setup - i bet 90% would say there is still room for improvement if you start out this way it would be easy to add smaller portions of holiday themed fabric and paraphenalia and generally speaking most of candles will be holiday colored regardless of what "theme" your booth is...if its eyecatching it will be well visited
  19. I was going thru my inventory this past week and discovered that a group of marbled containers are "bleeding"....no oil seepage but the color has gone from "veins" to "blobs"....they have been in the basement closet...(cool, dark) is there a way to prevent this??? Has anyone else have this happen. I use J223 and mostly Peaks oils...also a tad bit of UV inhibitor......any suggestions???? crystal
  20. i love those....i'm not into florals so i wasn't too crazy about these...BUT I LOVE your interpretation with the leaves....awwww and with the amish harvest fo....awesome gift!!!!!!!
  21. I definitely agree that you need some fresh, clean crisp scents....i personally can't stand foody scents...they make me get a terrible case of the munchies and headaches if there is a "cinnamony" smell to it some popular scents for me...jade, green tea, white tea & ginger, blackberry sage, storm watch, clean cotton don't forget florals too.....lavender, lilac, and jasmine are quite popular for me as well hth
  22. absolutely gorgeous...i love the candles...photography....everything!!!!!!
  23. i was just thinkin the same thing!!!! great job...they look fabulous!
