  1. Hi, Hmm... I always thought it was double the cost for retail. I had to adjust my prices considerably to get retail shops' interest, though. So now my prices are approx. 70% higher than cost. Then I give a 40% discount for bulk wholesale orders. I do make some money, but forget it when it comes to ebay. I don't know how anyone can make $ on there! Anyone know? LOL. Also, I'd be interested in what everyone else charges. Anyone have websites they'd like to share? Thanks!
  2. Interesting! I would never have thought of that. Maybe I have a few extras... Thanks!
  3. I am terrible at fractions, barely made it through algebra and core math classes in college. Blah. I have a master's degree in higher education admin but don't know Sh*t when it comes to fractions because I don't use it everyday. I have a scale that weigh my candles on and it weighs in ounces. It's one of those kitchen scales you get at wally world. I would like a digital scale, though, one that weighs more than 5 lbs! This way I can do more than mail things flat rate priority! Anyone know of such a scale that I wouldn't have to spend a fortune on? I've already spent so much! Thanks !!!! Violet
  4. Hi, The general rule is to add 20-30% for wholesale and up to 50% for retail. That's what I read and what I charge on my website, for the most part. Tarts generally cost less so I charge less... Hope this helps! Violet
  5. Hey, Does anyone have any tips on rusting regular mason jar lids to make them look old and primitive? I've seen the lids on sale on NorthStar, etc, but since I can get the lids locally, was wondering if anyone knows how to do it (fast, too, since I sell on Ebay and they want their candles asap). Thanks! Violet
  6. I have used Save On Scents' pumpkin pie and pumpkin spice and had great hot and cold throw- same with their hot apple pie & blueberry pie. Their Thanksgiving is great, too. Balsam fir... I like Millcreek's Cozy home for a cinnamony spice, as well. Good luck!
  7. I use C3, but it's not palm wax. I use CD3 wicks. It's soy. They burn great, though! Good luck with palm wax. I've heard a lot about it, just haven't ventured there yet.
  8. I've been using this wax for months. Some containers seem to affect it. I solve that by using a heat gun. The problems I've had with FO throw have been solved by eliminating those scents. C3, I believe, is a good wax, but no wax will throw good with all scents... Just keep that in mind.
  9. CD wicks are coreless. Don't know if the original poster was talking about them or not... They work fine for me, but yes, they shroom sometimes and definitely need to be snuffed and trimmed. Overall, I've been a happy camper with them.
  10. Are you using color? If so, what type? I've never really had frosting issues with votives, to be frank. Also could be you're not letting them cool long enough? I usually let my votives cool in the molds for around 12 hours. :rolleyes2
  11. Cool! I ordered a sample and hopefully will remember what the scent is supposed to smell like at this point! Thanks guys!
  12. Hi, I've had extensive experience with V1; it is a tempermental wax. During the winter, I had cracking like you wouldn't believe. Now that it's warm, I'm not having problems. Frosting comes from cooling the molds too close together. Cracking seemed to come from molds that were too cold. I popped my molds into the oven for the winter season and they came out better except the bottoms turned funky because of wax residue. Heat guns are good for the cracking. Cool them in a room temp setting, too. Good luck!
  13. I think you're referring to the natural artisan. They were in NH and now are in VT, or the other way around... Here is their web address: http://www.thenaturalartisan.com/customer/help.php?section=contactus&mode=update
  14. Try the natural artisan- they're in VT which isn't too far from Maine. They have C3 and V1.
  15. I took a look at your website and noticed you sell 8 oz jelly jars. Are you very successful? I was selling a lot of them around Christmas but business slowed down a lot so I stopped buying the jars. I really like them, though. Do you get your jars from a local store or do you buy them in bulk? Thanks!
  16. The pies are 5" pie crusts. I am getting them from a lady on Ebay. Here's her store: http://stores.ebay.com/Hills-and-Dales-Gift-Shoppe She is a very nice lady. Sent me free sample wicks once.
  17. I've ordered 4 pie crusts from an embed/pie crust maker and am eager to start. How do you make them? What wicks will work? I'm using C3 for containers, V1 for votives/tarts. Will this wax work? I currently have CD 12s, 16s and 20s for wicks, plus some eco 4's... TIA!
  18. While I am normally loyal to SOS, I wanted to find out if anyone's had success with Fragrance Oil Heaven, as they are also in NY and they have some scents, like Tuscan Herb, that I want to try out. I miss that scent and SOS's Tuscany smells like play dough. THanks! P.S. Anyone know where I can get a good Tuscan Herb scent? It's an awesome scent and I'd LOVE to get the real deal! TIA!
  19. I think it looks fine. Is that a bulb jar? I'm selling those, but I am using one wick for the 6 oz one, 2 for the 10 oz. It looks pretty. Soot can be a problem in those jars with lips. I'm still playing with wicks. Let me know if you decide to wick down or switch to one wick.
  20. One of my customers wants all natural color dye. I asked NorthStar and they said they don't think it exists. Anyone know if this is true? Thanks! Violet
  21. Thanks for the tips, Chris. Who do you get yours from? Violet
