  1. Now we're makin' candles with feet???? First waxed dipped bears, then TP, paper towels... And now our candles can get up and walk! COOL. LOL.
  2. Thanks, KandleKrazy. You're right. I just ordered several different colors and types and spent less than I was spending on boxes of labels from Staples. Now what to do with all those hang tags I have? Hmm.... maybe waxed bears or tp is next ... hahahahaha.
  3. Data labels sounds good and inexpensive, plus they have templates for the labels. But I am wondering about Staples- wonder if they have them there? I looked online and it didn't appear as if they did. Will have to stop in and see. The sheets sound intriguing, but I am not all that good with Adobe.
  4. I saw this posted the other day so I threw a little tart I had made from my glass glow in my melter, lit it and it burned quite nicely for several hours. It was the strongest scent in the kitchen, and that is saying something because it wasn't really scented (no color, either)- I had made some chardonnay containers with GG and then had a bit left over, so I threw some votive wax (soy) into the mix, remelted and poured it into a votive mold and a tart mold. So I really didn't scent it other than the tiny bit that had been left over. As for the look, it looked very nice. But, I do have to say that I was using metal molds and not clamshells. Stella's right- you have to pour hot to get the desired look. I tried using an ice cube tray last night (plastic)on top of a cooling rack. I mixed the glass glow with votive wax again, half and half. Heated to 200, put in jade dye (dye block) and an ounce of balsam fir. Mixed, then poured. I was afraid that the plastic would melt, but it didn't. I had a bit extra, so I poured into votive molds. A few hours later, came back and those notorious air pockets showed up. They looked like someone had taken a square tool and punched a hole into the top. When I took the tarts out, the crystal pattern was there, but barely. The ones in the votive mold had very pretty patterns, though. I think the metal lets the wax cool slower. I wouldn't try to pour into a clamshell, though- it would probably melt. The plastic isn't as thick as an ice cube tray and they say to pour wax into clamshells at 150 or below and you have to pour palm wax much hotter, like Stella said on here, in order to get the desired look. I do have one question, though. How do you wick the votives? I tried using the same wicks I use for my soy votives and while it worked, it burned really super hot. I then tried an HTP 52. That burned way too cool and the flame was almost non-existent. Will it be possible to wick them, considering that they are half soy and half palm?
  5. Does anyone know where I can get round labels for my containers? I'd like them to be 2" or so in diameter. So far I've only seen square ones. Right now, I have hang tags that I stamp, and I print labels on my computer that are really address labels, but I am looking for something that is easier to put on the jars and more professional ... something that will fit on the top of a 8 oz and 16 oz jelly jar. Thanks! Violet:cheesy2:
  6. Since there are so many here confessing, I guess I should too. I've been known to forget that I have a candle burning on the table after a long night of pouring.... then wake up the next day and come downstairs to find the candle burning... one time just last week, actually- it was a palm votive that had been burning for like 18 hours! One time I came down and said, wow... it smells good... then went back to lay down and said, crap! I bet I didn't blow out that candle! I do it for research, too.... but that's when I'm planning on being there! :tiptoe: Sometimes things just come up!
  7. Ahh.. that makes sense. I probably won't try to sell them to anyone but my friend who isn't going to burn them (just keep them bc they are pretty). I suppose they are a pain just like pillars... Grr.. They look so pretty though...Thanks for your response!
  8. Yup if they don't work I will post an ad.. never have before... I have faith that the clamshells will work for me though. I am going to post an ad for eco 4's shortly as well as a lot of summer type scents that I have not succeeded in selling (not bc they aren't good, but because summer sales sucked, basically). Thanks all....
  9. Hi, No, I didn't. I talked to the people I bought the pies from. I don't know where to get tins that are 5" though- I've looked at Walmart and the local supermarkets. They only have the larger ones. Any idea where to get tins? Thanks! Violet
  10. Hi there, Just wondering.... I know there's a ton of stuff on here about mixing different scents. I'm a bit flustered, though, as there are so many and I am only wondering about a few: Can one make a cinnamon buns combo out of different scents? I have apple pie, apple cinnamon and butter cookie, not to mention french vanilla. How does one make an eggnog scent w/out ordering it, assuming one has the basics? What can you make with a straight patchouli, if you have the other oils? Cranberry chutney- what would be needed to make this yummy scent? Finally- Apple Cider- how would you recommend I duplicate a scent such as this without ordering a bunch of separate scents, making it futile to look for a way around ordering more than one or two scents? I know that some of this is asking a lot, but I did find out how to make apple spice on here... as well as berries n cream and I am hoping that a more seasoned chandler will assist ... thanks!
  11. Hey Sharon- For future reference- do you know of a number I can call? I am not totally concerned with glass glow right now bc of the craft fair coming up, but the jars I have are so pretty with this wax! Idk tho- I was thinking about how it's only 2 dollars difference between shipping 55 lbs of glass glow to my location in Ny from NC and shipping 50 lbs of C3 to my location in Ny from NH... And if I used a supplier in CT, it's only like a dollar less (for C3). What is up with some suppliers charging an arm and a leg and others not? I can understand Peaks and Lonestar- they are pretty far away from NY. Maybe it's a question of who they choose to ship with. I know that Save On Scents uses USPS if you choose it and shipping is generally much less than other FO suppliers. Just a few thoughts. G'Night!
  12. I heard that, as well, but I'm willing to take a shot- I've heard that about shrink wrap being stink wrap and so far haven't any complaints... We all learn either the easy way or the hard way, and maybe one person's methods will differ, FO will differ, or wax will differ... so I'm willing to give this a shot. If it doesn't work, I'll be posting it on the want ads! LOL. Speaking of the want ads, if I post an ad for 400 Eco 4 wicks, do you think anyone would be interested? :tiptoe: They are of no use to me... but sure would try to make some of my $ back and it seems silly to have them sit here. Thanks!
  13. I have to admit that the samples I got from Candle Science, particularly the Holly Berry, Mistletoe and Chocolate Fudge (OMG, to die for!) were great. I was just hoping someone was closer... I will try to google IGI and see what I come up w/, if I can remember. I've been pumping out soy candles for days for an upcoming fair and boy am I tired of pouring at this point! Thanks Guys!!! Vi
  14. Hi Guys, I just got some glass glow wax from Candle Science (10 lbs) and so far I love it! Just wondering if there are suppliers that are closer to NY than NC? Trying to save a bit on Shipping and have no idea who carries it. I did a search and only came up with a few threads, which didn't tell me where the other suppliers were for the most part. Did a google search and only came up with Nature's Garden, which doesn't even seem to carry this brand. Thanks! Violet
  15. Hey guys! I checked out Fragrances by Design- they're offering free shipping for orders over $30. Cool! Thanks!
  16. I know someone posted a link for clamshells on here somewhere, can't remember where... but I'm doing a craft show in 3 weeks and would like to get them. Preferably a supplier close to NY as that will save on shipping. TIA!
  17. Just wondering-would it be a good idea to sprinkle real cinnamon on top of my hot apple pie candles? Has anyone ever done this? Thanks!
  18. Hi, I have some 5 inch beeswax pie shells I bought a while back and made a pie with them. The lady I bought them from supplied the wicks as well as berry embeds (blueberry, raspberry and cherry). I used C3 wax, luscious cheesecake scent (millcreek). Heated wax to about 175, added scent, cooled to slushy. Set three wicks in and once it started to harden, placed about 8 blueberrys on top, then cooled until the next day. I wrapped it in cello and put it away for two months. I decided to test it last month. It burned really hot then started to tunnel. The sides cracked and wax started spilling out (luckily I had had issues with pillars blowing out and had put it in a glass serving bowl prior to burning!). The wicks probably lasted maybe 1 hour total before they were nearly gone. I blew it out and pulled out the wicks, then poured some more wax into the shell the next day, same scent, threw some berries on top, put two wicks in. The melt pool didn't even get to two inches across before the wicks petered out and died. It's frustrating me because I'd really like to sell the remaining shells I have at a craft fair I'm doing in three weeks. But if they don't burn right, I can't. The wicks the lady sold me are ones she uses for her pies. I'm not sure exactly what size they are, but know that they are cotton and coreless. They look like the ones that are like 50 C or something similar? She never did tell me the exact dimensions. What am I doing wrong? Ugh. Should I try votive wax instead? My V1 does seem to burn slower. I just don't want to waste a bunch of wax because it's so expensive. Any help would be great!
  19. Save on Scents gives free samples for a minimum order of $75 in FO. I think it's 5 samples for $75 - $149 and 10 for $150 and up. I like them because their shipping is fast (they're in NJ) and cheap. Some of their scents don't throw well for me, but most do. I'm sorta branching out to find even better scents for the holidays, but they have several that are rather good that I would buy if I had the money! I stood looking at my huge shelf full of bottles of FO last night and I probably have over $1000 worth of FO sitting there:shocked2:! Crazy, eh? Anyone else have this much?
  20. That's cool! I'll have to check into that. Thanks!
  21. Hi there! I'm glad to see you have posted your results. I'd try super glue on the bottom of the tealight cup to fix the wicks to the bottom. I am unsure whether there are wick stickems that are small enough. Maybe someone else on the board knows? I've played with the idea of a tealight mold, but as I sell far less of them than containers, I haven't felt it was worth the investment- but if you search the forums, you'll find where they sell it (I forgot which site carries them). They start at around $30 for a silicone type mold and it holds 15 tealights. I don't know if it works for container wax. Just a suggestion. I know that the CD3's burn faster, but cleaner, but in the end, cleaner was better for me, as that was the result I was searching for. I hope you bought a sampler pack of wicks so you didn't spend too much on wicks you may not use? I have also noticed soot around the edges of the votive holders, not much, but found that it is controlled usually by trimming the wicks to 1/8 an inch. I tried all the other CD sizes, from CD5 to 18, and the 12 came out with the least hang-up, which is what I was having as well as tunnelling with the ECO 4's, as well as the cleanest burn. I had all the votives burning at once, had taped the size of each wick to the holders and burned them for two days in a row at four hours each. I do recall, however, being torn between three of the wicks, the 10 and I believe the 8 or 7. In the end I chose the 12, as I think most people who order from me mentioned that they liked a cleaner burn. I guess it all goes to personal preferences- I am sure there are others out there who use a different votive wick and tealight wick with V1 and C3. I'd be interested in hearing from them, as well; perhaps there's an even better wick! Good luck and happy hearing from you!
  22. Definitely my heat gun, along with my pyrex measuring cup and indexed shot glass for measuring oils. I'm still trying to find new wick centering ideas. I have two bars, but of course, two aren't enough. Right now I use straws that I've poked holes in the center. Only problem is they slide sometimes, and fall apart eventually. How do you use a hollowed out pen? Thanks!
