I will put it on my list to try down the line. Not ready for full on soap making just yet.

Kris, using the CP rebatch works exactly the same as M&P....ya just melt the stuff, add whatever you want and put into molds.  I have never wanted to go into ''full soap making'' either, that why I use the CP rebatch stuff.  I'm too much of a clutz to mess with lye...lol

  2. Some waxes do create sink holes and require a 2nd pour.  You don't need to wait any specific length of time between adding the FO and pouring as long as you've stirred the wax mixture sufficiently.  I don't do soy waxes but assume that if you end up with sink holes, that you can level out the top of the candle with a heat gun like I do with my paraffin candles.

I saw that on the Brambleberry site last week but wasn’t quite sure what it was, so I went with a pound of the M&P goat and a pound of oatmeal base since I was my first time playing with soap. Will definitely keep it mind of next time.

When I first started playing around with soaps, I used the M&P because it was easy for me to make a soap to match the scents of candles and lotions that I was making for gift baskets...then I found the CP rebatch soaps....so easy to use.  However, the CP rebatch does come out rustic looking but the suds is great and it takes the FOs well.

  4. Something else you might want to look into is CP rebatch soap (I get mine from Bramble Berry).  It is CP soap that is shredded and you can add various things to it, heat it in the microwave or double broiler and pour into molds.....every bit as easy as M&P.  Besides making bar soaps with the CP rebatch, I make hubby's shave soap with it and get great lather.

  5. Not a seller here but more of a hobbiest but have been making candles, melts and lotions for over 15yrs.  I get my FO from various candle suppliers, i.e, Candle Science, Bramble Berry, Rustic Essentials & Lone Star.  When reviewing the oils from the various suppliers, they will say if the FO is ''body safe" and I rarely purchase an oil that cannot be used in lotions along with candles. (why waste my money on a scent that can't be used for both?)  and of course the amount of FO used in the various products will be different.

  6. I'm in need of a formula for a cream to help with severe diaper.  Purchased some A&D ointment from the drug store but wondering if there is something I can make myself....have all the necessary ingredients for lotion/cream but curious about what else can be added to the mixture to help with the extreme chaffing.

Any help will be so appreciated.

I don't remember them being explicitly political but they have cut waxes from their supply for concerns about sustainability, provide carbon-neutral shipping options, and support a living wage which might be considered leftist by more conservative people?

Edit:  They do also have a Black Lives Matter banner towards the bottom of their home page, which I don't consider controversial but others might?

Please tell me what BLM has to do with candle making

About three years ago, I started pressing flowers and making pressed floral art. I found about 99% of what is on the Internet is absolute rubbish. I'm still perfecting my craft but having great success through my own in depth analysis as I go through the process.

Hey, if you want to learn from an expert I'd suggest that you search out posts made by Donita...this lady was an inspiration to me.......her work is so far beyond beautiful and her past posts and pic are available thru a simple search.  I would give my right arm to have Donita's skill

    .

If you are into pressed flowers and how to use them in candle making, then you need to research the posts/pic posted by Donita.  Donita hasn't been around for a while but her beautiful works of art can be viewed in the library.........this lady is a God send to those of us wanting to make a beautiful candle.

  9. BB: it might be our joke of the day but as you know, once something is posted on the internet, many will buy into it.

Now my opinion is this:  if adding CBD oil to a candle serves any purpose then maybe it should be explored....but if it doesn't really add any benefit to the burning candle, then why go to that expense......especially since CBD oil is not cheap.

All that said, I do make a lotion containing CBD oil...for personal use and find that it does help with some muscle pain but I have some friends that have tried the CBD lotion with positive results but resist continued use due to the fact that it may cause them to test 'dirty' on a drug test.

question:  when I purchase CBD oil for my lotion, should I be asking whether it is derived for male or female plants? (in an effort to avoid the dreaded ''positive drug test''??)

CBD oil made from Hemp would have almost no THC, but CBD oil made from female cannabis plant (and also depending on extracting method) would contain highest concentration of THC.

Did you know that many candle buyers are cannabis, cigarette or cigar smokers.  They need candles to get rid of bad orders in their houses.  Why not give them both in one product? :)

I guess the real question here is '''what's the benefit"" of adding the CBD oil to the candles..is one going to experience some sort of  calming sensation from inhaling the candle's hot throw. ???

Before I put out some large expenses on the ingredients of my candles, I need to know that it is not a waste of money.....other than the hype that may induce some people to buy my candles....and considering the cost of an ounce of CBC oil, there is no way that I'd ever recover the cost of supplies without going online and selling my candles at high prices with enormous hype surrounding the addition of CBD oil...just because there is an endless market for gullible people that will buy into whatever you're selling....that just is not in my wheel well.......

If she is extracting it in a similar way I am wondering if it is viable. I have even heard talk about CBD candles. I would be interested to speak with a dispensary on their thoughts. Hey @BusyBee you live in CA. Get us the low down At your local dispensary on how possible something like this would be. :)

I use CBD oil in one of my lotion recipes but I can not even begin to imagine what benefit could be had by adding the CBD oil to a candle.  Since pure CBD oil is not supposed to contain any THC, why would anyone want to inhale the fumes that may be produced in the burning of a candle..if there is no benefit, then why add the cost of the CBD oil to the cost of the finished candles.....other than to make a few buck on the hype.

I've said it before and it applies here as well......

people are shameless when it comes to self-promo.

bfroberts;  Next time I am feeling down and out, I might post something stupid on the internet just to see how many people think I'm a genius.  Heck, maybe I'll venture out into making Mexican food scented candles........geez does anyone think that if I add some salsa to my wax mixture, that I'll get a scent throw equal to the smell of tacos.  Hey, if I can perfect this scent, maybe I can get a long term contract with Taco Bell......

I know everybody doesn't always want 2 or 3 little votive candles all burning at the same time, but I like to have multiples going, spaced throughout an area, and that makes little zones of scent.  Then the overlap of all of it is a variation.  No matter where you're at in the room, your nose is picking up something different.  For example, I might have Autumn Leaves in one spot, Dirt in another, then some kind of pumpkin or apple or Amish Harvest in another spot.

I'm with you on this,....burning multiple candles/melts in different rooms does create a whole new experience in that the scent you are experiencing may be something new.

@MarleighaThank you for your suggestions.  Is the Grandma's Cupboard the one that smells like oatmeal cookies?  I haven't tried it, but I've heard that, *I think*.  I use Little Black Dress in soap, but I've never put it in wax.  Never even thought too, I'm about to do that right now.

@Candybee Wow...you've given me some much need inspiration with your blend ideas.  I don't know why I couldn't come up with anything on my own.  I have just about every FO you've mentioned.  Thank you for some great ideas!

Hey, if you have several scents on hand........just start blending them

  13. I guess the 1st thing to ask yourself is "what do you want the wax melts to do"???  I'm guessing that you want the melts to produce an amazing hot throw that you can be proud of...right?

My advise to you is to learn to how to produce a melt that fills a room with an amazing scent........once you have mastered that, then you  can venture out into adding stuff to make the melts look pretty....remember, no matter how many pretty sparkles you incorporate into your melts..........they ADD ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to the hot throw.

Way back when I first started experimented with candles, I wanted to try everything and soon learned that the 1st thing I needed to do was learn how to make an acceptable candle/melt

  14. Ok, I may be alone here but I do not add anything to my wax that does not contribute to it's burn or HT.  Adding colorful micas does make the candle look pretty..........but what does it add to the end result which is the hot throw........absolutely nothing....so why waste your time and money in adding it to the wax?  That said, I have experimented with coating my pillar candles with some mica sparkles to make them a little more pretty but in the long run...it was a total waste of time and money.

I'm just of a mind set that if an additive doesn't add anything to the hot throw, whether candles or melts, then why go there?
