  1. I don't do mosaic glass, but I love refurbishing furniture. I have made many trash it furniture items into, what I and many say, beautiful furniture. I love slate and turned an ugly coffee table into something beautiful. I also mosaiced my daugters dressers and other tables. It is awesome! I do have snippers, and a few grouting tools, but you really don't need much. I know they sell LOTS of special tools, but you really only need a few. I wish I could send pics, but digial broke on Christmas (pm thank goodness). I will check my photo files to see what pics I have if you are interested. Mosaics really are fun and leave the creativeness (is that a word) to you. I haven't done any in awhile and now you just got me thinking... Boy am I in trouble!!! Seriously, if you want more info, please pm me, I'd love to help. Melanie
  2. This sounds so cool! Wish I had one for my kids...as said it would relieve a VERY heavy bag of stuff. My sister is due in August, actually just found out yesterday, they are having a boy - Logan! Anyway, good for you and your blanket AND if it works out for you and you just can't wait to make another, let me know! By the way, I can hardly sew a button (please feel sorry for me:cry2: :cry2: .) Seriously though, if it works out great and you want to do another or share what you did, I'd love to know. Take care and CONGRATS!!! Melanie
  3. I am a scrapbook junkie. Unfortunately, or not, since I started making candles 4 months ago, I have not touched my scrapbook stuff once! I am in big trouble b/c I am almost finished with my sister's wedding book (from June 2005...too many pics, I couldn't leave any out) plus my three kids books and a monthly page book for gram and papa. Do you think I take too much on :undecided Anyway, just wondering if there are any other scrappers out there. I miss it and have to get back to it, it is my passion. I guess the newness and awesome smelling, and fun, and prospects...of candle making just got to me - come to think of it, that's exactly how I got started scrapbooking Could I have OCD??? Hope to hear from some of you soon. Melanie
  4. Let's see...Yesterday I received 25 new sample fragrances and a half hour ago a 50# bag of wax just happened to show up on at my door. Gee I wonder what I'll be doing all weekend? Now just have to figure out which yummy scent to start with (don't you hate these hard decisions). Hope you all have a fun weekend! Melanie
  5. Who knew? Kind of gross though, thinking about women walking around with wax on their face. I wax my eyebrows and it grosses me out, but my 5 and 3 year olds love it when look like a "monster".
  6. Thanks for the help! I just made my first batch. They smell awesome. Do you need to heat them, because mine smell really good on there own. Does heating help once the scent starts to fade? Anyway, one more great idea I found thanks to CT and all of you! Happy Smelling.
  7. I want to make some scented rocks, but I haven't seen how much fo to use. How many ounces of fo per pound or cup. Please help, I'm out of wax, so I MUST have a project. Thanks.
  8. Hey Broadzilla, I guess we're recipe swappin (meatloaf girl). I use sea salt for cooking, is this the right stuff. Who knew you could use salt for scenting?
  9. These sound really cool. I did a search, but couldn't find out much about them. What are they, one post said you can you water softner pellets - is this right or are there special rocks for them. If so, where do you get them and any recipes would be apprieciated. Like I really need anouther project!!!
  10. Thanks for the imput. I think I'll try a good brand locally and see how it goes. I will definitely have to pay attention to if they are skin safe. I'm pretty sure my fo suppliers all list that. I'll let you know my outcome. I sure hope it works at this point until I'm ready to jump into B&B.
  11. This may sound totally dumb, but can you by fragrance free lotions and bubble bath from say Walmart or BBW and add your own fragrance to it. I know it sounds silly, but my reasoning is I started making candles recently and love to have matching scents - my nightly baths are the only time I actually get me time, so I pamper myself. I can't even think about starting B&B products right now, as making candles takes up more time and frustration than I have  These products would just be for me - I would never pass them off and sellers. Any info would be great. The reason I would like to do this is to keep cost, mainly shipping, down. Thanks in advance. I love reading your boards. Even if I can't make them, I sure love reading, learning and wanting more more more products! Melanie
  12. As usual, I can't sleep so what do I do...surf candle supplies sites. Has anyone heard of or ordered from brighterscents.com. They have some great sounding scents and some are made specifically for soy. Does that really make a difference? Just looking for feedback. TIA http://www.brighterscents.com/
  13. what kind of soy wax are you looking for?
  14. I was just on BCN message board and saw an anouncement fo .99 cent sale fragrant oils going on untill Friday, 3/16. I didn't see it on there main page, but I think that's because you need a special code. It says to use the code SAMP99 on your order to get the sale price. I'm so excited because I haven't tried their oils and was going to place one this week anyway! Luckey me. HTH:yay: http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/bittercreek/vpost?id=1753072
  15. I love Candle Science too! I order all my wax from them, plus some jars. I am ordering scents from them for the first time (.99 cent sale). I love CD wicks and wish they carried them too. I will definetely contact them, if we all make a effort, maybe they will come through.
  16. I love both ecosoya cb advanced and ecosoya pure. I use them both, but would like to order a 50 case b/c it's cheaper. Any reccommendations on which you like - mainly scent throw. Thanks for your help. Melanie
  17. Hey there! Earlier today I was reading tons of posts and didn't look at the dates they were posted, but I read one about someone looking for square plastic lids - I don't have a clue when it was posted. My point is I just happened to fall upon a site that carries plastic lids for 9 oz jars. I tried to find the thread I was reading, but too many threads. Anyhow, if you are out there and still looking, check out genwax.com. Sorry if this is confusing, I just got excited finding something that may help another candle maker (middle child, always wanting to please LOL!!!) I would also like to say that without this site I would have gone up in smoke - or worse! Thanks for all your great tips and more to me your humor in the mistakes I make along my way! Sure is awesome to have a site like this. Take care to you all,Melanie
  18. I have let some cure for over two weeks and none less than one. I'm getting my fo from candles and supplies. I love the smell, but still my issue???
  19. Happy V Day! I used to get mine from candlesandsupplies.com and loved the ecosoya CB, Pure, and Pillar. But, I found shipping rates to SC (where I live) are much cheaper from candlescience.com. CandleScience is also about 2 or 3 dollars cheaper. I spent ALOT of time finding the least expensive wax, but also figuring out shipping. Some site will qoute you shipping, some, like candlesandsupplies, don't. I still order my scents from them because that's where I started and am still trying to get them down. Hope this helps. Oh yeah, go to www.ngiwax.com they make ecosoya and have a list of suppliers! Why didn't I think of that before my rambling??? Take care, Melanie:grin2:
  20. Hey everyone! Wondering, if I'm not getting a good hot throw, does that mean I should wick up or down. I've read some about the wicks getting clogged, I'm a newbe so I sont get what I'm suppose to do. Also, I hve been using 6% fo with ok cold throw, but little hot throw. I am using ecosoya pure and cb. It isn't just one scent I'm having issues with. I"ve read alot of people use 8 or 9% fo. Thinking of going that route. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Melanie:confused:
  21. Hey, a newbie here. First, Happy Valentine's Day to all! Although I would rather be having a romantic night with my hubby (restaurant mananger - obviously big day for him at work), the next best thing is CANDLES. I still lite a romantic scene here - I can still be in the mood right:) Anyway, how much fo are you using for the 8oz jars? I use ecosoya with 6% fo, good/great cold throw, not so much when burning. Thanks for all the great tips! Melanie:p
  22. Hi everyone! I'm a newbie and am having trouble getting a good hot throw with my soy pillars. I use ecosoy pillar wax and cd20 (3" dia mold). I have been using 1 oz per 1 lb of wax. The cold throw is great, but hardly any hot throw. How can this be? My containers seem to be fine for the most part - different scents, different results. Should I add more fragrance to my pillar wax? Thanks, any help will be appreciated!Melanie
  23. Trish - Love your quote - so true (stay at home mom of 2)! Melanie
  24. Thanks for asking this question. I'm new to candle making and did the same thing. I have been searching the web for an answer and now I found some. I never thought of how to keep them flat either - maybe we just were too excited to get started. Thanks for the tips. Melanie:yay:
  25. Hi everybody! I'm new to candle making and this site, but love them both already. I cannot believe how beautiful these candles are. Maybe one day I'll be that good. Look forward to chatting with you all.
