  1. Back to the original post-the craft show where you are on the third floor, is there an elevator? How many attendees make it up to the third floor? I go to a lot of antique malls and the second and third floors are usually dead, no traffic. Something to think about.
  2. Ditto that! Glad I am not the only one that took a while to figure out the LX's work best with this wax. Kept trying to make HTP work as it was so highly recommended. My second choice is Peak's cottons. I love this wax. The throw and appearance are awesome! If you wick down enough it won't smoke. In a small container the challenge is finding a small enough wick. Good luck to you!
  3. If you can get a good flame and melt with this combo, please kindly post the type of wick you use. I have not been able to find a wick to work with this scent. Thanks!
  4. Yes, that is correct. It happens with certain scents regardless of the wick I use and I am afraid the flame will blow out with a small draft or breeze, like someone walking past. It is a small container, 4 oz, so I am thinking if I can get at least a 1/4" flame, it might be ok. Larger than a 1/2" inch and the jar gets too hot. Thanks everyone for your input!
  5. I have a few scents with weird behavior. I get a great melt pool in the container but the flame is either small, very small, or downright tiny. How small is too small and why? Opinions?
  6. I have Orange Clove from Nature's Garden and it is nice too.
  7. Anyone else use Lonestar's Coffe scent? Smelled great when I poured it but my wickless candle seems to have little hot or cold throw. I use 4630 Harmony Blend and this is the first scent that I have had this experience with. Is it me? Thanks for all input!
  8. This is one of my best sellers. People are crazy about it!
  9. Sounds like a defect in the glass, perhaps too small to see. When a person "cuts" glass, it is not cut but actually scored to create a scratch. Glass is then broken along this line, forming the "cut". A tiny score in the neck of the jar could cause this break. Recently I had a shipment of mason jars and I found the a defect on one jar in each case. Leads me to believe that there must be 12 differnet machines that make the 12 different jars that make up the case, and one machine had a problem. Just my two cents worth.
  10. I agree-I use other suppliers like Peak's, Candlescience, and Lonestar. The only thing I saw on this website that interested me were the small quantities of cotton wicks that I am still testing. Thanks for the input!
  11. Also called Discountcandleshop.com. Has anyone ever hear of this company or done business with them? The website looks good but it links to a lot of other sites so I can't tell who they are. I did not find them by searching the CT forums either. Thanks!
  12. I am still small potatoes, but last year my three most popular scents were Cinnamon, Pine, and Spiced Cranberry. I like the Eggnog but is was not very popular. These are all Peak's scents.
  13. Please see this thread: http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53171. Although I have not yet bought the insurance, others on Candletech have and they recommend it. Good Luck.
  14. I'm using Harmony Blend also. It is easy to work with. Throw is fantastic and color is great. But it is very hard to wick. After fooling with it for a year, I have concluded cotton wicks work better for me that HTP wicks but I am using a container that tapers narrower at the bottom. If you use a container that is wider at the bottom, I agree HTP would be good. Be advised I have yet to find a wick for a small jar that works with the heavy scents. If you use a larger container you may have better luck.
  15. It seems unlikely that they would let you visit their facility if they are trying to pull a fast one. First, I would calibrate your scale at home. This involves weighing an item of a known guaranteed weight and you may have to buy some little weights to do this. If you are positive your scale is correct and that the bottles are underweight, I would contact the supplier and give them a chance to address the problem. If they will not give satisfaction at this point, then it would be appropriate to stop doing business with them and post their name on this site if that is allowed. But first, you should always give a business a chance to address the problem. This is called "making you whole" and it is a proper business practice.
  16. Just wanted to share this. I made a melt (IGI 4794) in the common round fluted tart shape, one ounce size. Put this in a Yankee brand tart warmer. The bottom of the melt is flat and the bowl is concave. As the wax melted from the edges, evidently a tiny air bubble was trapped under the flat bottom of the melt. It heated up and as I passed by, I saw a tiny explosion come out the side from under the melt. The wax was contained because the bowl is deep so I do not see this as a problem but I thought shows that it may not be a good idea to make too large of a tart/melt. I also make wickless candles with 4630 but have never seen this happen with them. Also, I have not seen this happen with melts in my tealight warmer or when I put a melt in a bowl on the candle warmer. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
  17. All my friends and customers say the same thing about Peak's.
  18. Thanks for all the great replies on this!
  19. Thanks, I'm slow but I get there! Seriously, though, I do focus on wicking for the bottom third of the jar also. I gave up on my htp wicks because the flame was just too hot at the bottom of the jar. I do use paraffin, Harmony Blend, and usually this wax catches up just fine on a slightly underwicked candle. In fact, I have trouble finding small enough wicks for my little jars!
  20. That's what I thought! Guess I'll stick with the wax I'm already using-at least it throws great!
  21. Is there any such thing? Has anyone found a wax that is easy to wick with most scents or am I just dreaming here?
  22. I have had more than one person tell me that they buy candles from a company who only sells at parties. They love them because all the wax burns completely away. Isn't this potentially dangerous?
  23. I poured Lonestar's Key Lime Pie at 6%. Smells great. Two testers think it is strong enough but one would like it stronger. Anyone out there use this scent? What percent of FO do you like? BTW, I'm using 4630 and 4794. Thank you.
