  1. I've been testing the 415 for containers and tarts. I like the results in the containers, they smell good with a little roughness on the tops...with the tarts some come out good and some don't....i've tried the 416 and it's nice, but there are no suppliers even close to me that carry it...for those who use 415 for tarts, what do you add to it? if anything...
  2. Well i've decided to go with the .65 a tart...after i'm done testing in a little bit i believe i can sell them...i've told the people i work with the prices and they said ok...i already have a bunch of orders to take once everything is tested and going.....
  3. Just looking at these on a website, i've never seen them before, does anyone do them? PS not looking to do them, just wondering :smiley2:
  4. Bruce i got lucky with my packaging and was able to get a bulk amount of 2x2, 1x1 and some other size zip lock like packaging at an auction down here. the came from a business that went out of business they all average about 1.5 cents so i round up at 2. i also make my own labels both warning and my info and i got these in bulk too from the auction as well which again average around 1 cent. you can say i got lucky to get the amount i did at the price i did. the 2x2 and 1x1 i use for my tarts. the others i don't really use other to store stuff. these are the same bags that thecandlesource.com has. I understand that the store ones aren't good quality, and i believe mine are better, i guess maybe i'm just doubting myself in what i can sell. i'm going to try to sell them for 65 cents and if i see that they aren't selling maybe i'll go lower. I've never done soy before but i have done plenty of paraffin container candles.
  5. Your selling yourself short and making your product look cheap by having that low of a price... ever think of it that way? Yankees are 1.79 for 20% less than an ounce and the other are not far behind that so where do you find them for 50 cents or less? Bruce Lets see i've seen them at Michaels, target, a few other stores for like 50 to 60 cents. i don't live in a high cost area. and i don't know how you can say i'm selling a cheap product. i can't see how 1 oz candle can cause .33 cents to make, here's my break down of pricing: This is if i make 14-18 per pound: 14- 18 per pound $1.14 1 oz fragrance $1.48 color $0.10 bags $0.02 Total Cost $2.74 Each $0.15 so it's 15 to 20 depending on how many i get out of a pound. i can't understand how you can say i'm cheaping out???? I'd rather sell more at 50 to 65 cents then sell less at 1 or more.
  6. I've been selling paraffin candles for years. It took me a few months before i'd give them away and then i got people hooked and then they were paying customers. Now i'm going to soy and i've been testing for about a month now. i use friends/co-workers as testers. I've already been asked multiple times when they can buy them. I'm trying to get a price down so that i can sell them, but it seems that my earlier thought about pricing was too low :undecided I already have orders and i am trying to figure it all out!
  7. I'm actually not trying it out or anything, it was normally priced at $20.00 and it was down to 8.00 and 4.00 w/ the 1/2 off coupon. i just thought i'd pick it up and see what it's about.
  8. I just picked up a 4lb box for $4.00 at Joann's just to try it out for that price.. it is the soy for containers. anyone know what kind of soy this is or comparable to?
  9. Well i could go up to: 1 oz tart - .65 each 2 oz tart 1.00 each sampler tarts(they are like .7 oz) 3 for 1.00 i can't honestly see anyone paying more than that when you can go to a store and buy them for the same or less. granted they might not be the best quality(the store) but most people in my blue collared area probably could care less. i'll see how it does at the prices i just listed and see what i can sell. When i was doing paraffin i sold my 16oz containers for 8.00 and still made $4.00 a container. sorry i'm not factoring in time cause that's just crazy to me cause it's not my full time job. i don't need to make a living off of these but extra money isn't a bad thing. i do use 1 oz to maybe 1.25 oz per pound depending on the fo. the fo i buy is from thecandlesource and they are great. i buy in the 8oz so it is a lot cheaper. i've figured in that i would profit $6.27 selling 18 tarts at .50 each. i get about 14 to 16 a pound of wax. I also do not factor in gas, labor, etc, just the cost of the wax, fo's, color, bags, twisties, etc....
  10. Well after testing like crazy for the past 5 days, i'm about to sell some. My prices are resonsible cause i can't see charging anymore right now since i'm a start up: 1 oz tart - .50 each 2.5 oz tart 1.00 each sampler tarts(they are like .7 oz) 4 for 1.00 i still make a pretty good profit and i don't count in labor cause well it's a hobby for me and really enjoy it. my stress relief if i must call it that. i get more excited to make a candle then to go to my regular job.
  11. Anyone ever buy any silicone molds from scorpinn? I've searched here and found nothing.
  12. I was curious to see who sells tarts and if you sell a lot of them. i was thinking about starting with them. They are so cute and to me it would seem that would be a good gift and are realitively cheap. Also what's the normal(avg) amount you get out of a pound of wax?
  13. Anyone ever buy scents off of ebay. I'm looking at a few sellers right now that seem to have good deals on fo's but is this too good to be true.
  14. Which KY site do you use? I also seen that soysolutions site and i don't want to use that wax.
  15. Does anyone know a site that sells wax, anything in Florida, i'm looking for soy wax and can only find one which i'm not pleased with their prices.
  16. Thanks for all your help and advice, much appreciated. I live in Florida and it seems there are NO distributors/wholesalers at all down here. Shipping is at least $25.00 from all the most popular sites. If anyone lives in Florida and knows of a good place, please contact me.
  17. Thanks for the information, i guess i'm new to this and just would like to make some extra money on the side.
  18. I have been making candles for years. Parrafin candles and i buy the wax from Michaels or some craft store. I have sold a lot of candles this way, but i want to try something else cause i'm not real thrilled with the way Parrafin candles are latey for me. I've never done soy or anything other than parrafin i was just curious to find out some more info. i guess i'm just a little excited.
  19. I'm new to the Soy wax and would like to know where i should order some from, i would perfer to order a small amount first then go large if i like it. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also which additives would i have to add to soy?
  20. I'm about to start up my candle biz and i would perfer to use the same wax all the time. Should i go with soy or parrafin? If so which one should i chose within soy or parrafin? Also i plan on mostly doing container, glass and maybe metal and sometimes votives and pillars. Suggestions? Which throws the best sent? Also what is the best place to buy in bulk online? Or in Central Florida?
  21. Hi i am a new poster and i'm about to start up my own candle business. i've done candles for years for friends and family but i've been told i should expand to craft shows, maybe online, etc. I do buy some supplies online or at stores when they have a sale or coupons. What are the best places to buy scents or wax in a bulk amount that doesn't cost a lot. Tips/Tricks any info would be great. Thanks, Kristin
