  1. Thanks Robin! Suds-That sucks! That right there would prevent me from ordering. You should only have to pay for what the shipping actually costs, not what ever they want to charge! Some people! Sharon
  2. Oh cool, thanks! I will have to go check them out too! Have you ordered anything from any of these suppliers? Just wondered if you had a preference.. Sharon
  3. Thanks suds, I have never heard of Liberty Natural before.. I just called they moved to Oregon City, which isn't to much futher. I went on thier wesite and ordered a catalog... Looks like they have quite a bit of stuff.. They have soy container and votive wax, don't know what brand.. I think that was about it for candle supplies.. Sharon
  4. Ya,I just came across it. I have't ordered anything from them yet.. Atleast there is something close to me..lol About 20 min away.. It's essentialwholesale.com they are at 8850 SE Herbert ct. Clackamas,OR 503-722-7557.. Robin-Have you ordered from them before? Sharon..
  5. Oh, I forgot I saw them at Peaks the other day too..2 x 6.5 $4.55, 3 x 3.5 $4.95, 3 x 6.5 $6.00 Sharon
  6. I think letitshineusa.com has them on sale right now..hth Sharon
  7. Made ya look...lol I am pretty new here. I have been making candles for a few weeks and I am having a great time playing and learning... I have been looking at and reading about all the cool B&B stuff. I never really thought about making it before...BUT since I am such a huge fan of B&B products, I thought it would be a lot of fun to learn to make some, so I am waiting on my first order of butters and oils to try my hand at lip balms, body butters, etc.. I never was inrerested in making soap.. I haven't used a bar of soap in years!! I remember them getting slimy and mushy after being in the shower for a while.. I started using body wash and never looked back...BUT..... after looking at all of these beautiful bars of soap and reading about all the different kinds, all the pretty colors and flavors for the last couple weeks, I am in awe of them! Looks like so much fun and now I want to make some too! My husbands going to kill me!..lol;) So, ladies, short story long..lol Where do I start, Is there somewhere I should go to read and learn what to do before I get started? What supplies do I need and what's a good soap recipe to start with? I think the CP soaps sound cool.. I don't really know what exactly the difference in between CP and HP and which process most of you prefer.. Thanks for your time.. Sharon
  8. Suds- No kidding, that's weird why they don't just say what product it is. It would definitely save them a lot of e-mails and phone calls.. I am very new to candle making, but I don't really need a starter kit. I bought all my supplies seperately.(I should have bought a kit to start with, but I am not that smart to think of that..lol) I have my modified presto pot, scale, pouring pitcher, dyes, wicks etc.. I was just wanting to find a close supplier..Mainly for wax and FO's oh, and containers would be nice. I haven't found which wax I like yet..But thanks for suggesting it! Carol K- I did check out Brambleberry. I am very interested in trying some B&B stuff as well, so it's nice to know they are close.. Thanks! tlc- Thanks, I think I might try some FO's from Peaks, they sound great! I think you brought the rain back..Can ya keep it out in Sandy please..lol blazerina- That's too funny! I thouht maybe for a second that I didn't know how to surf the net..lol I will have to go check out what they have for B&B stuff.. I haven't actually made any B&B stuff but am dying to try some.. I don't know if any of you do B&B stuff and if you do, you probably already know about them. I just came across their site and since they are in Clackamas OR..I thought I would share anyway.. They have a lot of oils, butters, lye, among other things. Just no candle stuff.. Sharon
  9. That's what I say Carebear!..lol Very cool.. I love the taper! They would be good for Halloween.. Sharon
  10. wicked1-So, these are all IGI waxes, well why don't they just say so..lol Thanks for the translation! Where's the pm feature, is it right in front of me? I thought I had seen it before.. Hi Robin!! That would be great to have a list of suppliers in the NW.. I could probably look too, if you tell me how to do it.. Is 1343 the wax that you like to use? I have never heard of that one. Is it a container or votive wax? Suds- Thanks for the translating. All these numbers, I'm so confused..lol I'm so new, that I don't know what would be good ones to choose. I have never heard of these before. Which ones do you like to use? I have a couple small slabs of IGI 4627,6006,4633(J223) and 4694 votive wax.. I have only tried the 4627 and 6006 so far. tlc-We really are neighbors! You are only about 10-15 min from me, depending how far out you are.. I don't think I will try their FO's Doesn't sound like they are very popular..Where do you like to get your Fo's from? Your so funny..."Is it raining yet?" You certainly live in the right place for rain..lol Thanks!!! Sharon
  11. Wicked1- Thanks for the info! I think I will call and get a catalog. Have you used the wax before, if so do you like it ok, also have you tried their FO's? Or did they have any, I don't recall..I guess I better get myself a catalog..lol It would be so nice to have a supplier fairly close with good wax anf FO's.. Candle Man- Thank you, I will check them out..Washington's not to far either. Much better on shipping then from the east coast.. blazerina- Thanks for the info.. You will have to let me know what you think of the wax..Sooo, get busy would ya....lol jk.. My husband travels a lot for business, maybe I could get him to pick me up some wax next time he's out that way.. I know, when I first starting looking for suppliers, I thought for sure there would be a bunch in Portland. It's a pretty big city, but nooooo nada, none!! I couldn't believe it..What the?? Doesn't anybody make candles in Portland? Very strange! I will definetily let you know if I find any, but it's not lookin good...lol Sharon
  12. Hi, Thanks for the quick responses.. Firegirl- I did order some wax from Let It Shine and some FO's. I didn't care much for the oils, or maybe it was just the ones I purchased.. Do you order oils from them? They are very fast with shipping though.. Sudsnwicks- Have you ordered from Glory Bee before?.. I was looking at their web site last night and saw that they carried some wax, it didn't say much about the wax, so I wasn't sure if it was any good. Have you tired it? Also, I could be wrong, but I thought there was a min order of $200.:undecided Melissa- We are alomost neighbors!! Your about a little over an hour from me.. $15 is not bad for shipping for wax..Are you happy with the wax from them? I am still very new so I am not sure what's good and what isn't..I appreciate the help! Thank you all you Oregonians for responding, I don't feel so alone now...lol Sharon
  13. Is there anybody else here from Oregon?? If so where do you get your candle and B&B supplies? I have looked on the by state link and there really isn't anything close to me in Oregon/Washington. There are a few but they don't offer much, especially in the way of waxes. Most of them only offer bees wax.:undecided All the good suppliers seem to be on the east coast. The shipping is killing me, especially on the wax.. If your from my neck of the woods, please share with me where you get your supplies... Thanks!! Sharon
  14. Thank you for sharing that info Fern-Marie! I am new at this too and that's very helpful! I have been using the Ball Elite jars, they are very short and they look really nice! I have been able to get them at my local Fred Meyers $3.99 for 4.. I believe Walmart also carries them (not mine of course:wink2: ) But most do.. I would be interested to know what soy you use also.. I have not tried my hand at soy yet. I bought a 1lb sample of Ecosoy CB, have you tried that one? Thanks... Sharon
  15. Yes, it smells like fuel! More like a karosene lamp then a candle :undecided .. I only added 1oz FO to 1 lb of wax, all I have is the 1oz sample packs at the moment. I have been adding my FO and pouring at 180. I made a blueberry muffin from aroma haven and the wickless smelled great when I melted it,very strong! When I burned the 16oz jar candle in a different room, I couldn't really smell anything.. I do fully understand that I am not going to have a perfect candle right away and be able to go right out and sell them.. I know there is a lot of testing and trial & error. Please don't think otherwise.. I am very very grateful that you all stop and take time out to help me with many many questions and problems! Is it possible to scortch the wax? I'm still trying to get used to the temp dial on my Presto pot. I keep it between warm and 200 and I watch the thermometer closely but last night it jumped up to 207 degrees! Is the plain melted wax normally have an ordor to it? I have never smelled it before.. I know that sounds stupid but I thought maybe I could have got it to hot and scortched it, if that's possible. Your right Top, I think I need to use just one wax, one type of container and larger quantities of FO's so I can experiment with them.. Thanks! Sharon
  16. I did my 1st test burns on 3 of my first 16oz jj. Two of them smelled not a bit good and the other well, didn't smell at all. One was sugar cookie from BC (IGI Comfort Blend,51-32-18 wick) and one was Yuzu fruit from Let it Shine (IGI6006, htp 73 wick) They smelled like burnt sugar cookie and burnt yuzu fruit..The other was green apple from BC(IGI6006, htp83 wick) and that didn't smell at all.. What in the hell did I do to them?? They cured for 2 days. I had to zap them with my heat gun to flatten out the tops. Could that have done something? I know it has to be something I did. Any idea's what I may have done? :undecided Thanks! Sharon
  17. I forgot to mention that you can get them in different sizes. ! You can get them at most craft stores. Walmart carries them also. I believe they make some specifically for gift baskets and they are very sticky. If you want the super sticky ones you can try nashvillewraps.com or flowersincballoons.com they may have them Sharon
  18. I have only done candy and cookies baskets but I use the glue dots and they work really good..:smiley2: Sharon
  19. I just checked the jars I poured last night and the 16oz are still sunken in the center but so far don't seem to be pulling away from the jar. The short 8oz are as flat as can be on top..They look and smell nice other then that.
  20. Yes, the warming tray seems to be working good.. I melted 2 more lbs of the comfort blend tonight and poured at 180. I used the same size jars (warmed). I had to use 2 different FO's becuase I only have several of the 1oz samplers to start off with. I am cooling them as we speak slowly in a cooled oven with them close together. I will see how they turned out in the morning..(keeping my fingers crossed..lol) I was also try and wick the ones that I poured last night and she how that goes.. How long do you recommend I let these cure before I wick and burn them? I have seem some say, you don't need to wait with this wax and some do.. I have also seen several different preferences on which wicks to use. I bought sampler packs of a few different kinds,,Zinc, HTP,and CD. what should I start with in a 16oz jar? Thanks! Sharon
  21. Thanks Geek..I'm having fun! Topofmurrayhill, Thanks for the tips! It's greatly appreciated! I am going to make some more tonight, with your suggestions...Should I be using only one type/size of container to start and for testing or does it matter? I have a few different sizes on hand. (There's not many choices locally for me) I'm not using anything bigger then 16oz for now. I was wanting some 8oz jj, but nobody's carrying them now. My Walmart doesn't any! I have a heating tray thingy that I was using once I transfered my wax into the pouring pot top help regulate the temp. It seemed to help. jillgunter, Thanks for the tips on the 6006. What temp do you poor 6006 at? Also, do you mix dye and FO at the same temp you pour? I see some people say to add dye and FO at a certain temp and then pour at a different temp. Hope that made sence..lol Again, thank you for the help! Sharon
  22. OK, I made my fist candles last night.. I had a hard time regulating the temp in my Presto pot. I had to keep adjusting it between 200 and warm to get it to stay at 180. At one point it got up to 210. Is that harmful to the wax for the temp to fluctuate like that? If you are melting larger (i.e 8lbs) batches of wax but using different FO's and dyes. Do you just measure out how much you need? That's what I did. My first batch was 2 lbs of IGI 4627 Comfort Blend. (Your not kidding that stuff in a PITA!..lol) I heated to 180, poured into a heated Pyrex to measure 1 lb (20oz) then poured that into my pouring picture. I stired in my dye (block) and 1 oz monkey farts FO from Aroma Haven. Stired for about 30 sec and poured at 155 in to 1-16oz jj and 1 wickless 8oz ball elite jar..(both heated) The second lb I did the same thing except with sugar cookie by BC The 16oz jars are slightly concave in the middle and look a little cracked around the top and are starting to pull away from the jar. It also looks like there is little hair line cracks through out the jar, if you hold it up to the light. The small wickless look great. The cold throw is ok, not super strong. What do you think I am doing wrong? Is my heating and pouring temp wrong? I took lots of notes.. My second batch was with IGI 6006 I melted 3 lbs. Heated to 180,poured in pouring picture same as above and mixed dye and FO's (Love spell BC,Yuzu Fruit Let it shine, and Green apple BC).. at 170 and poured at 155-160. The first couple 16oz jars and 1 6oz triagle glass, I cooled on top of slightly warm oven and the tops are also concave. The last 2 jars and a square 8oz glass container (from Walmart) I cooled in the oven that was still slightly warm and they are better but still a little concave and has a pin hole in the middle of the 16oz jar..(jars were all warmed) I also poured 2 4oz tins and seem to be fine. Should I use the heat gun to try and flatten out the tops? Sorry the post is so long and I'm sorry if I'm rambling. I stayed up until 4am playing.. I wanted to give enough info so that you may be able to help me. I want to make some more tonight but don't want to make the same mistakes. I want to do it right. I also purchaed a sample of IGI 4633 (formally J223) but I have't tried that yet.. Any help would be greatly apprecited! Thanks! Sharon
  23. Congratulations! What did you make, container or mold? I am right behind you.. I finally have all my supplies and have been reading reading and trying to learn all I can before I get started.. I am waiting impatiently for my hubby to modify my Presto pot (he promised he would do it tomorrow..lol) Hopefully (fingers crossed) I will get to make my first candle tomorrow!! Sharon
  24. FYI- I just wanted to add I got my digital scale from e-bay and I only payed $5.00! It is brand new. The brand is Neva, it weighs up to 52lbs. It weighs in grams or ounces. It has the tare and hold function. It's seems to be very accurate. It looked like they had a whole bunch of them. There wasn't very many people bidding on any of the scales, so I got it for cheap! Just thought I would share in case anybody was looking for a scale... Sharon
