  1. oh man, that sounds awesome too! Guess I have lots to play with...now to find a good marshmallow scent...lol...
  2. hey, thats funny, I just received my BCN order...lol....cant help you tho, I havent tested them yet, but I just got the bright yellow, and the kelly green. I wish you luck!
  3. Yes, I would like to use the peanut butter as an ingredient, and the Strawberry would be a FO. I actually found a few sites that have recipes for peanut butter soap, and they just add a few Tbls to it. Apparently it makes the soap soft, and it does make it smell like peanut butter. So, I am going to try, play a little, and who knows? No, I am not going to sell them, just give to friends and family (My DH loves everything peanut butter), but who knows? I would have to do research on legality issues and labelings if I sold them, but I just thought it was an interesting concept. More things to play with! Thank you for responding! I appreciate your insight!
  4. They go to Cananda several times a year to hunt and fish. Not sure about if its illegal here or not.
  5. Ok, since I have been researching and researching and researching on making CP soap and the properties of oils etc...and I just ordered some Strawberry Jam scent, which got me thinking. Today I got an idea for soap to try a peanut butter and strawberry jam soap. I have a small amount of peanut butter fragrance in the classifieds which made me think of this. I want to do a half peanut butter and half strawberry jam swirl. Thought this would be interesting. Then I thought, why couldnt I add real peanut butter? Anyone have thoughts on this? Anyone tried it? I pulled out my Peter pan creamy jar, and looked at the ingredients, and it states "Rosted peanuts, Sugar, Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils, (Cottonseed and Rapeseed), and salt". Any ideas on how to proceed with this? Do you think I would have to substitute part of an oil or butter from a recipe, or add it like an additive? (Mind you I havent even made 1 bar yet, that is coming after vacation....), but I have been experimenting in my head already. When I start, this will not be my first project mind you, but it is something I plan to try once I get a bar I am happy with which could be several months. Then came the idea of that chocolate soap with peanut butter...hmmmm.....now I am hungry..... Any feedback is appreciated!
  6. Oh, would love to know how it soaps up! I have a quite a few hunters hunter friends, and hope to get tallow thru them. If I would have know I would be soaping and being pulled over to the dark side, I would have gotten a ton of bear tallow....darn it all already....hehehe
  7. Thank you to everyone who responded. Since I still have a couple of weeks, I think I am going to play a bit more with the soap calc. I have been reading up on the properties of castor oil, and find that with the oxidation of it, I could see it producing DOS, so I am going to research some more. Another question, do I need to add any preservatives to the soap? I know you have to add it to B&B products, but just wondering about the cp soap?
  8. Thank you for the response! I inputed the changes you suggested into the soap calc, and liked the results. I also did one with a 5% drop. So, now I have three recipes to try! Forgot about the DOS, I guess I really wont know what happens until I try it! I originally chose the 20% for the healing properties of the castor oil, and to counter the drying properties of the coconut and the palm, so I was surprised at the qualities results. I am going to have alot of fun playing! Now to look at colors and frangrances...... anyone else have any opinions? being a soaper virgin is exciting!
  9. Ok, I have ordered a misty creek mold. Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. I will be ordering an upland or a mr. doright in the future. I just cant help myself...hehehe Anyways, I have been playing with the soap calc to get used to it, and what I can do etc...I have come up with a soap formula that I am excited to try, but I would like some feedback. 20% castor 20% coconut oil 10% lard 15% olive oil 15% mango butter 10% shea butter 10% palm kernel qualities: 40 hardness 19 cleansing 56 conditioning 36 bubbly lather 39 creamy lather 55 iodine 149 INS Any and all opinions are appreciated. I have to wait for my butters from a co-op, and my PKO from a classified, and I still have to buy the lye. I have a stick blender, goggles, gloves, etc...ready. And my mold should be here in a few days :highfive: . Still researching, and I am anticipating starting this in about 2 1/2 weeks. (we are going out of town for a few days next week, so no choice on starting earlier...darn it all already.) Do you think this would be a good bar to try? Also, I am going to try to scent it with Fresh brewed coffee from BCN, does anyone know if this one is a fast accelerator? Thank you to all for your help!
  10. Looks very professional and well done! Congrats and a toast to good success in your venture!
  11. Well, I do have the "castle" by theresa wentzler started....almost finished....started it almost 15 years ago:laugh2: but between moves, lost my pattern. I now have a replacement pattern, but have started other ones, so it is now a UFO until I get the itching to do it. this is the one I am doing right now: http://www.stabandstash.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=193 but I dont get alot of stitching time lately with to many kids and work!
  12. Well, I am not in canada, sorry, but we do use zen cart in our store. I dont sell candles either, but we use the shipping mod, and ship internationally. We will be adding candles to our line soon, and when we do that, we are going to be using the click and ship mod for acutal pricing rather than using a base price. Feel free to email or PM me with questions if you have any that I can help you with!
  13. Thank you all for your opinions! Grumpy and Carebear, I have been oogling your soaps for a long time, I hope some day to have wonderful soaps like you! I will admit tho, that chocolate soap and the acid trip soap that I have been admiring are the ones that pulled me to the dark side! I know it will be awhile for me to get the hang of it, especially on the time side of things. I have 4 children, 3 under the age of 3 (yes, I am a glutton for punishment, hence the attempting to try soaping too...), but with my DH only being home about 4 days a month (truck driver), I wont be trying unless he is home where I can keep the kids out of the kitchen. He's been trying to get me to do this for over a year, so I guess its time. I have been doing candles for a year, have 1 perfected, and more scents to go! from the opinions so far, I may be getting 2. Still have to decide, but you are helping alot! Thank you to all!
  14. I do! Looks like your tastes are about the same as mine! Love Mira, TW, Chatelaines, etc...I also own my own hand dyed fabric store. Link is in my sig. How long have you been stitching? Oops! Maybe I should read better....lol...I have been stitching for about 30 years on and off.
  15. I promised myself I would not start soaping...nope, no way..... I just purchased a few pounds of butters in a co-op.... I have been looking at molds for days..... See what you guys did? Evil enablers! My question is, I want to purchase a good mold. Been looking at the misty creek, the kelsei, and several others. I would like to know what you like or dislike about your mold/molds, what brand you have, ease of use etc....I am planning on doing this for the long haul, and dont want to spend money on unecessary and multiple items, so I want a good mold to start with. Now I know everyone has their own preferences, but I am just looking for feedback. Any issues with dividers breaking, warping....etc? Dividers/no dividers better?
  16. Here is mine, it is not a candle site, but your welcome to check it out! Edited to add: feel free to email me if you have any questions, my hubby has been designing sites for Zen Cart for awhile, and if I cant answer it, I am sure he can.
  17. You may also want to ask your question in the Zen cart Forum.
  18. I got mine on clearance at Fleet Farm for $59.99 the day after thanksgiving. Unfortunately it was the only one, otherwise I would have bought 2.
  19. I use mine on the outside of the container, but have heard of some using it on the inside, so I think it is up to your preference. Tammy
  20. Zen cart has a shipping module that is easy to use with their cart. You can set up a shipping price by dollar amount, or by weight of each item. I use the USPS for most of my shipping, and we have it set at a certain dollar amount, but will be changing it soon by weight of each item. There may be other ways of setting up this module, but that is my hubbys expertise!
  21. I use Modge Podge. You can pick it up at any Michaels or hobby store. Seals the seams wonderfully, and is non-flamable, so no issues with the flame. I found this out after purchasing some tin buckets as well. Didnt leak until they burned, tin got warm and the seam leaked. Searched a few sites, and Modge Podge was the solution, so I tried it and it worked. HTH! Tammy
  22. You may want to check out Zen Cart as well. Free! we use it on our website. www.stabandstash.com. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
  23. Thanks for you help everyone! I am still testing, gotta make more candles this weekend, but thanks for your input!
