  1. Absolutely love your palm pillars! Beth
  2. Sure looks like it is gone...at least the web site. I really liked them and the wicks they sold always came in such perfect condition. I sure hope it is a temporary thing or just a name change or something like that. Did you pay by credit card? I think I would call and see if they took the money out. They may be closing but still sending the last orders also. Good luck. Beth Added: saw a post from 5-30-08 about it being for sale. Maybe someone bought it and will restart under a different name?
  3. Stella...I think I am wick challenged. I've tried straight 140 wax with stearic and some with vybar and stearic. Tried, flat ply, cds, cottons, zincs, and sq. braids etc. Still can't get it to burn to the edge and consume itself unless it is a torch and smokes and then it bulges. Then I tried the 1274 mottling wax and mainly the same problems (didn't get to test much as I mixed up the wax and so didn't have many to try from my slab.) Then I have a case of 4045EP that I can't get to be clear enough to dip my canes, so I just made one out of that. Added stearic (3 Tbsp) didn't do much, melted and added some vybar. Truthfully they all look great, just burn bad. Maybe I don't have the knack...beats me...so decided I could make forevers and know nothing about palm except it is pretty. Just wondered if I needed to add anything to it to keep it from melting around the votive or tea light? Beth
  4. I can't wick a pillar. So, I'm looking at forever pillars. Is palm wax a higher melt point right off the bat and that is why so many use it? The patterns are pretty too. Of course, that means buying more wax. Could use my hurricane wax, but that seems like it would be sort of blah. I've read most of the posts, but still not sure what wax is the best. Any help? TIA. Beth
  5. Just was browsing and noticed this statement on the paraffin wax page of onestopcandle.com Due to changes in the petroleum and shipping industries we are discontinuing all paraffin based waxes. All products in this category are discontinued. Is this something new and will it be be something that reaches all paraffin suppliers or might it just be them? Beth
  6. Start watching our classified ads forum under marketplace. Many people sell molds, scents and wicks at a reduced price as they no longer want them and you can pick up some good buys. Just a thought. Beth
  7. I think they are very attractive. As for pricing, it may depend on the area you live in. We are semi-rural and most people have wood burning stoves. At a Christmas craft show, I sold some in a package of 4 for $1.00 and still couldn't sell them all. I had hoped people would use them for sledding and skating parties. I wasn't real sure about recommending them for the wood stove use. I hope you do better than I did, as they are super nice. Good luck. Beth
  8. Oh Donita, I wish you could come over too! I have one nice cane waiting to be dipped, but afraid to use this wax on it. The wax is the 4045EP. As far as I could see, they only had the EP and H and I went with the EP since the H was a mottling wax and didn't know how that would work as an overdip. I added just a bit (didn't weigh it) of the beeswax...maybe a Tbsp. The 160 cane wax is pretty clear, maybe I could just use that without the micro? I may just go back and order the 140 wax I had used earlier...At the rate I am going, I will have 200 lbs. of fire starters...hubby always said the house would go like a torch if a fire ever got into the basement! Isn't tryiing new waxes one of the joys of making candles? Off to clean house and maybe get to some candle playing this pm. Thanks Donita. Beth
  9. Hi Donita. I'm dipping at 200 but went up to 210 without a noticeable difference. I had added a bit of white beeswax from Swans...it is stickier (word?) than some beeswax I have used, but would that do it? I usually dip them in cool water since I cracked a few in a colder dip. Maybe I should dump the dipping pot and try again without the beeswax...after all that wax and shipping, I felt a bit deflated looking at the box and wondering what I would do with it. I just took a few months off to work on the greenhouse business, but since that is finished, I'm getting to start up again on candles. I'll give it another whirl at 200 and maybe even try a few pillars.:smiley2: Beth
  10. Thank you for the picts. Vicky. Then it is possible. So far, all mine have bulged and have tried several different pillar waxes though not the 1343. Donita, I gave in and bought some of the 4045 for dipping my canes...but, can't get it clear enough...they always come out cloudy despite dipping hotter as Candlewic suggested. So, maybe it will make pillars. Apparently it isn't the same as the old 4045, so not so sure. And for mottles, should have tried the 4045H when I ordered. Shipping is such a killer, so need to look closer to home. Maybe just more trying! Thanks to those that show they can be made. Beth
  11. I can make great looking pillars...my problem is the burning isn't what I think it should be. Is it possible to make parrafin (or palm...haven't tried this yet, but would) pillars that burn properly down 3/4 of the height or all the way? If yes, would you please post some picts cuz I am about ready to quit trying. I am getting so discouraged. Love looking at the gallery picts. but they are never burned down. So, can anyone help? Thanks. Beth
  12. Very nice. Looks like milk and caramels...So what is the yummy FO? Beth
  13. Come on...get it out and let us know how easy or uneasy it is. Yah, I saw the cartridges are expensive. I kind of want it to make things that I can put unto the waterslide decals for my canes. And yes, the girls would really want to visit grandma all the time! I had thought I would look for a used one. Looked on ebay, but will try craiglist too. It would be nice to get a few cartridges with it also. Thanks.
  14. These look so absolutely intriguing. Just wondered if anywhere on the instructions they say the cutouts can't be used commercially? My granddaughters would die to play with this and I am weakening, but would like it for more than just crafts for them and myself. Verdict? TIA. Beth
  15. Freezing often results in cracks, but you can put in in the regular part of the refrig. and try after about 15 to 20 minutes. Usually this will cause the wax to shrink enough to slide out. Beth
  16. I like those jars the best of all the jelly jars. Very pretty color. Beth
  17. Very pretty...almost pearly looking. Great job! Beth
  18. Thank you so much...these are exactually what I was going to start a google search for. Perfect in my hurricanes. Beth
  19. Hi Geek. Don't know about barnloft any more nor the Prymes, but nice to see your still doing candles. Chime in more often. Beth
  20. Good job. Did you have any trouble with bubbles under decals that large? I've only done small ones so far, but your great work is encouraging me to go bigger. Love the one from the Grand Tetons. What a great way to remember your vacation. Beth
  21. Very nice job for a first try...I've never tried them, but if I did, I could only hope they would look as good as yours! Beth
  22. Hi Drew. If it is the water balloon luminary directions from the Craft Server forum, it looks to me like the larger. For the photo embed, a lot depends on the size of your mold, but I think you'd need the larger for that also. This will bumb this post up and maybe someone else who has made the balloon ones will answer. Beth
  23. I agree. I think most people don't like to think of lye in soap. Brings to mind drano. But I love word play also...so work on another! You'll find one. Beth
  24. Wow, you are industrious! I think the 1260 wax is a good choice. You will need a mold. Some people use different things, but I found the regular hurricane mold works the best. You won't need an insert. You will need something to melt a fairly large amount of wax...probably 4-5 lbs. Many use a presto pot (maybe find one at a secondhand store?) You will need a thermometer. If you are going to color anything, you will need candle coloring...probably color blocks or liquid coloring. I use a 5 gallon plastic bucket for the water bath. I learned the hard way to put the empty mold in, add water to the right height, remove the mold and mark where the water line is. Then take a bit more out until you place the filled mold in the water. Saves spilling water into the candle. Donita (the luminary queen) says she uses cold, wet folded up paper towels to lift the filled luminary into the water bath. Works good. Follow the directions and start practicing soon. Remember, you can always melt down and reuse the wax if it doesn't turn out like you wish. Good luck. Beth
  25. Thanks for the info. I will check next time I get near a Staples or Office Max. I have been trying to find something online and apparently not putting in the right words. As long as it is available to be used, I will start looking in the stores. Can you tell before you buy if it can be used commercially? Thanks again for answering. Beth
