  1. Thank you everyone for your kind words:-) Making small errors like this makes me think about what I did and how I could use that else where. As always we continue to learn something new everyday:laugh2:. Thanks again everyone, now that I know how to post a picture I will be back with more soon. Mandy
  2. :DHi I just wanted to share this pic with you all. I was rather pleased with it, even with the mistake, candle on the left. I was trying to create a smooth blended two tone and in stead ended up with smooth Ivory and rustic like brown. It is scent Vanilla/cinnamon Strudel and smells delicious. I tried to copy what I had done with the candle on the right but it came out kind of darker and a wider brown area, it also had no FO. Ill remember next time to do 2 identical candles from the same batch of wax, just cant get the colours or technique the same when i do it at different times. The candles do need to be polished up, so excuse the finger marks , just couldn't wait to share. All comments welcome. Thanks for looking Mandy
  3. Hi Leesters, Enjoying reading your blog, you have such a great writing style and a great sense of humour to. So tell me Leesters have you made your first candle yet?

  6. Hi Everyone:) Ok I have a wick testing question with a difference...............I have a collection of various wick which I have had for sometime.........way back when I first made candles........What I don't no is what size they are, there is no packing or wrapping with them. Is there some way I can do a test. I'm not to sure what i'm thinking about, maybe making a candle and seeing how far out they burn or something, or is that just daft? I found the wick and there is alot of it so I may as well try using it. If anyone can help me here I would be very Grateful. Thanks Mandy
  7. Thanks guys:) I thought that the round candles were most popular. A variety of sizes, what do you think about the corrugated round moulds? I dont have one and have never seen a corrugated candle and just wondered if it was an easy candle to make and burn. Thanks again for your input........I would be lost just now with out you guys to talk to and ask questions. Your all stars everyone thanks Mandy
  8. Hi All Me again, Just thinking about what shape of moulds to buy. Could all the lovely people on the board possibly give me their thoughts on what they think the most popular shape of candle is. Trying to make up a mock order for supplier but cant decide on shapes and sizes. Thanks Mandy

  10. Hi quick question..................does anyone know of suppliers in and around Vancouver BC. I already have wick and wax. Thanks Mandy P.S Still working on the metal mould supply thing:)
  11. Hi, Thanks for your feed back ladies and gents:) I appreciate it. Im still looking into things at the moment. Ill keep you posted. There might be a way that I can do this. My parents live in Canada and I might be able to work something out with my parents help. Unfortunately there is only one supplier that I can find around Vancouver that my mum would be able to get to. If anyone knows of any others in and around Vancouver can you let me know please. My folks stay in Williams Lake and they are in Vancouver frequently, so im kind of looking for places that they would be able to get to, without venturing to far out there way. If that makes sense :undecided My heads still buzzing with this. I think i need to spend a day when im not at work on this Thanks again All ill get back to you:)
  12. Hi I hope this is the correct place to post this thread....................if not I apologise:undecided OK here goes..............Over the past few months I have been thinking about the possibility of starting a small home run business selling candle moulds in the UK. As a candle maker myself I cant help but notice the shortage of suppliers in the UK, that aside. One thing I do find frustrating is that there is nowhere near the selection of Metal candle moulds that there is in the States. I myself make pillar candles, but I get bored with the same moulds all the time. This made me start looking at the selection and prices of metal moulds else where i.e America. Now im thinking is there a market there or not? Could I buy from America and sell in the UK? Basically what im asking is ' do the people from the UK think that this would be a good thing to do? If anyone can offer me advise on this it would be very much appreciated:smiley2: I do appreciate that there is shipping/handling charges and customs taxes, I still need to look into that further. Any help or advice from anyone would be fantastic. I just cant seem to get away from this idea and it driving me nuts. Am I wasting my time?:undecided
  13. Beautiful candle. I only wish my attempts at rustics would come half as good as yours. Well done:)
  14. Welcome, Our choice of interest is very very addictive, and satisfying. I am also a newbie at the game and I cant get enough, there is just not enough hours in the day for me. The only advice I can give you Leesters is Plan things before you jump in, which im sure you have already done, make sure you have the time and ALWAYS keep note of everything you use and everything you do. All the wonderful people on this forum are always here to help and trust me I honestly do not think that there is a question you could ask they cant answer, there all stars in my opinion. I often wonder just how many years experience there is on this board. Looking forward to hearing how your getting on, Good luck
  15. Hi All, I bought some sticky wax at www.fullmoons-cauldron.co.uk They have wax buttons and a sticky wax block. The block was what i bought and it worked a treat and lasted Just melt and go;-)
  16. Hi Lisa, Im a newbie from Scotland to and agree 100% with you on the fantastic variety of scents available everywhere else it seems but SCOTLAND......... sorry nearly got me started there:-) I'm always looking at websites and thinking is it worth it, with the rate of exchange etc, but guess what i have never done it yet. Maybe one day. I also bought scents from Joe at Sensory Perfection and they were great, and there is always a wee surprise to:-) I have also used fullmoon-cauldron for various supplies, but i have not tried there scents. As said by others " there a wee bit on the pricey side" but they are very helpful, offered good customer services and quick delivery. Just sitting here thinking about us poor sods in scotland, Correct me if im wrong somebody please, but i dont think there is a single candle supplies company in scotland. Is there???????????????????? Any way enough of that:-) Give JOE a try at , www.sensoryperfection.co.uk, she also has an ebay store as well http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Sensory-Perfection. Good luck Mandy
  17. Hi All and a Happy New Year to everyone. Quick question to all members from the Uk, does anyone know of a supplier in the UK who sells metal, aluminium, seamless or any kind of metal like moulds. I prefer working with these moulds but find it very hard to find a supplier who has a good variety and prices. What i have found is all the same and are rather expensive. I have recently purchased 3 moulds from the states and it actually worked out cheaper, just a bit of a pest, what with the waiting and all. All member in other parts of the world I.E AMERICA are just spoiled for choice. Ill stop ranting on about it sorry. Any help welcome Thanks M
  18. i think ill give that a try I really cant wait to try them out. Thanks for your input, ill let you know how i get on thanks again :-)
  19. Hi Everyone and Merry Christmas to you all. I was hoping that someone could give me advise on using a 2 wick ying yang mould. I have never done a 2 wick candle befor and was wondering what wick to use. Am i correct in thinking that if my mould is 4" diameter that i would use wick for 2" candles or would i go down a size. Also my mould comes with insert so im guessing im basically making 2 candles. Please excuse my stupidity, i just want to check befor i get started. Thanks again and i look forward to any reply. Have a great New Year to everyone. ALL THE BEST FOR 2007
  20. Your candle is gorgeous, I love the colour and feathered effect, how did you do that. Im a newbie and have never seen that kind of effect befor. Well Done and I to would want to keep it.
  21. HI, Im a newbie at candle making and have just found out im doing yet another thing wrong. I have been pouring my wax straight into my mould from the pot that i melted the wax in. I do tend to let it set for a few minutes befor pouring. Is this wrong and why? As Candle Making Momma asked " What is the purpose of heating the pour pot?
  22. Hi im a newbie from scotland so i understand where you are coming from when it comes to uk suppliers, very few. I have had great results and finds using www.fullmoons-cauldron.co.uk. They have been very helpful and offer fantastic customer relations and sevices. I would recommend giving them a try. Or just have a look at the site and catalogue, they have a wide range of stuff for many diffrent intrests. Good luck Mandy :smiley2:
  23. Thanks Scented. I have contacted the supplier and they told me to try heating the mould and cleaning it with a very soft cloth. Also to try silicone spray as well. I tried all of the above and I still have the same problem. I think I have killed my mould. only used it twice and got it perfect first time round, wish i new what i did wrong second time. I bought it because polys are the biggest cheapest range that I can get in the UK, all other moulds are very expensive and there is not alot of variety, unfortunately. O well better luck next time:smiley2:
