  1. I was wondering - besides not being able to scent and color your wax in the presto pot, are there any other problems when using the presto pots to melt wax?

No problem melting, scenting, and coloring right in the presto. Just wipe clean with a paper towel when you are done. I have had 6 of them for 5 years and they are all fine with no scent mixing, which I think a lot of people are afraid of. Turn the presto on high when you wipe it clean. Just pour right from the presto into your pour pot. A lot of time saved by doing this.

  2. LOL...Thanks all!! I feel so crazy now :rolleyes2 I was talking about 2 different things. I thought that the wicks didn't come curled but I didn't know for sure. As you can tell I am a very newbie!! Thanks again for the much needed info!!

Just make sure you trim them before you sell them. There are people out there that would light the wick like that. Never a good idea to do it to begin with, JMO

  3. Here's a neat trick that will work with any jar. Weigh the empty jar, then weight it full of water up to the point that you plan fill it with wax. Subtract the weight of the jar to get the weight of the water.

Of course if you have a scale with a tare feature, just tare the empty jar and add water to weigh it.

The weight of the water times .86 is the weight of the wax that will fit in the same space. This simple calculation is based on the specific gravity (density) of wax compared to water.

This will work for any jar or mold.

You know something funny top. I made 4 jelly jars yesterday for someone. I used 4 different waxes, used the exact amount of wax for each jar and 2 had enough leftover wax to make a good size tart. Now how is that?

  4. I went to our local Parade of Homes last weekend with dh, dd's and one extra. We went into this home and you could smell a candle burning somewhere. The candle was in the bathroom. I looked at the candle and saw that it had a melt pool. Then I noticed that the wick wasn't even burned. Its the light that melts the wax from the top down instead of other candle warmers that melt the wax from the bottom up. It had a great throw. This is the melter (or it was very similiar) the candle was on. I think this is the coolest!!!

    What do you think?

I've never seen these before. There is no price listed on the site or shopping cart - guess if I want to know I'll have to contact the company.

I love those. If anyone finds out where to buy, not wholesale, let us know. I sent an email to the company. Did a search on google and came up empty. I see they TM'd the name, so if someone else sells them, they may be called something else.

  5. Hi All,

I'm a newbie to the forum. Been lurking around for a month or two, and finally had to break my silence to ask a question about Peak Candle Supplies. From what I gather from everyone here, they're a good place to order from, that is if they had anything to order!!!!! They seem to be out of stock of most waxes, and other odds that I wanted to order - wick clips, molds, oh, all the things one really needs to make candles - and it's been that way for a while. I emailed them the other day, but still have had no reply......

Where else can one order good quality waxes and dyes?

Looking forward to a long and happy association with you all.:wink2:

There are plenty of suppliers who will help you in minutes. PM me if you want to know any.

  6. Expensive? Time consuming? Really?.....I hadn't noticed

Forgive me, but that statement just chaps my a$$. Too many people come to a board and want answers givent o them so they can forego the expense and time of testing themselves. Well I'm sorry, but it doesn't work that way. If you're going to make a go at this, you need to do it yourself and do it right!!

This is not a cheap nor easy venture, it's not a get rich quick scheme. I (and many other serious peeps here) have spent thousands (yes t-h-o-u-s-a-n-d-s) of dollars to get where we are and it's really frustrating when someone comes here and says "..to save me, and I'm sure a few others who are making these or interested in making these, some time and money as it could get pretty expensive testing!!" If you can't afford to test, then don't make the product.

This is not an issue of not wanting to help, I have no problem helping with many types of issues, but youre question as worded sure isn't one of them. Testing is important. Testing requires that you learn about the product, the process, the outcome. If you don't test yourself but take someone elses word for what works, then you have no clue as to the real outcome. It's dangerous for your customers and for your own liability.

    LMAO, hehe

  7. I heard on a local radio station about a candle making seminar in my area. Said you could melt the soy wax in your microwave and anyone could make and sell these soy candles. So I did a little research and found it to be quite interesting!! Watch the movie on these links... I will let the links explain.:shocked2:

They are saying how easy it is to make and sell soy candles and want ya to join and be a part of their marketing team, its a pyramid thing and the more people under you, the more you make!!

If you do a google search, tons of stuff comes up on them. They really bash parrafin candle makers to promote soy candles. What a no-no !!

They say their soy is 85% Soy and 15%? other natural products.

    Check out their soy prices!

    http://candlewealth.com/docs/catalog.pdf

Check out what they say on the link above that their brand of soy burns 40-60% longer than any other soy and has a better scent throw than any other candle in the world!! Gauranteed too!!

    How outrageous!

Would love to test one and compare!

The more I read on this, the more my mouth drops!!! I am still shaking my head!

    Hogwash, don't believe that nonsense
