  1. Here's an interesting article from the NY Times on Palm Oil you may find interesting. (sorry for the long link!) http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/19/business/worldbusiness/19palmoil.html?_r=1&oref=slogin The slide show on the production is pretty amazing.
  2. I have noticed this discoloration as well. I just started using ROE a while back and was freaked out by the color change. I didn't put 2 & 2 together until you posted this though! Thanks!
  3. I'm not much help here at all, but I have heard using citric acid can be very tricky. I used Borax for a couple of batches and had issues. Now I don't use anything at all. For water & KOH amounts I use the calc here. They have it adjusted to take the water content of the KOH crystals in consideration. For my FO's I've been using between 1/2 oz to 1 oz pp. One issue I've run into is my FO thickening my dilution back up making me add more water in. LS has been kicking my butt, let me tell you! But I am catching on finally!! If you haven't yet, get Failors' Liquid Soap book. It really is a great book. Also, there is a Liquidsoapers yahoo group you may want to check out. Before I jumped in I read about several different methods and thoughts which have helped me along. About.com has a couple of really good articles about it as well as a Crockpot recipe. Good luck!!
  4. TexasBrat, did you ever hear back from seller about this? Have you soaped the mold yet?
  5. I called Best Buy to see if they're in stock and was told they were discontinued! I checked up on it and sure enough, they were on March 31, 2007. BB told me you can order them thru your local store (if they are out of stock) as they do still have them at their warehouse for $299.99 (as of 4pm CST that is!) I picked one up at PC Nation for under $250.00 and saw a few other places in that that price range (Thanks Nextag!) They are still available all over the net & some stores but who knows how much longer. Just thought I would pass this on since I've seen so much talk about them!
  6. I think when you purchase a domain via Google, thats who they go through... It seems that popped up when I bought mine. Win-win, eh?
  7. To get my domain name secured and just lightly off the ground for the time being, I purchased mine from Google and use Google Apps. The registration was cheap and I have gmail integrated into it. I immediately was able to get an email address set up & and designed a simple "Website coming soon" page with some sample picts of what was to come. Google Apps has two sorts of accounts - free & premier. I'm using the free one now which is all I need until I can really get into the design and implementation. I *love* it. http://www.google.com/a/
  8. My order was Camellia Oil which shipped from Canada (May have been Montreal... I can't remember off the top of my head)
  9. Yep, happened to me too. It was an order coming from Canada to Texas. I agree a heads up would have been nice, however I cannot get this product from anywhere else at that price. Luckily I didn't need it right away and now I know next time to be prepared for such a delay.
  10. I am slowly getting a business plan together and hope to get something off the ground within the next year. My question is about proper tax exempt usage. (please excuse me if this is a dumb question, I'm still learning & have quite a bit to digest!) Can tax exempt purchases be used while you are testing out new batches & formulas? Say I plan on selling a little here & there to friends and family, however I'm buying supplies mainly to make small soap batches to test out new recipes and not necessarily selling the product. These are soaps I keep to test out and/or hand out to a few testers for opinions. Or would it just be wise to not bother with tax exempt until full-fledged production and sales begin? Thanks, I look forward to your answers!
  11. Anyone know much about these? I've been asked if I am able to make scented lamp fuel for these lamps. I searched a bit to see if I could find a supplier for plain unscented lamp fuel to play with, but really haven't come across anything other than people on eBay selling recipes. My husband suggested just trying 99-100% isoprop. alcohol & adding frangrance. This sounds like it would work - in theory, but I thought I would check here and see if anyone else has any experience with these guys. Thanks!
  12. I hd an email this morning from Mia Bella - the subject line is "Why Soy Candles?" Tey fixed their labels but apparently not anythig else. But... SWEETCUPCAKE! I've been following this thread and I too, signed up for the free sweetcupcake thing to check it out. The 'back burner' comment floored me. But anyway, I got an email form my "sponser" today that was somewhat criptic so I logged onto the website to check out the message boards. The message boards are down and I ran into a message stating someone apparently logged into the founders paypal account and stole credit card info from all the consulatants! The rather long explanations and what happened is here: http://www.sweetcupcakecandles.com/backoffice/community/ Yeahhhh.... so who's scamming who now? Whatever, this 'company' is full of it and so many people were suckered in....
